With the 11th pick the Cincinnati Bengals pick Tackle Jonah Williams from Alabama
Finally, someone to help the elite talent that is Andy Dalton. On a more serious note this is a great addition for the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals allowed 37 sacks last season with 21 of those landing on starting quarterback Andy Dalton. They were considered the 20th best offensive line in the NFL last season by Football Outsiders. They did improve with the additions of Cordy Glenn and Billy Price but they weren’t the whole answer and neither was free agency.
The Bengals walk out of the Draft with one of the top-three offensive linemen of the 2019 Draft. Jonah Williams uses strong technique and body control to make smart blocks on opposing defenders. Similar to his idol Joe Thomas, he is a student of the game and his incredible work ethic only make him better. He has a quick first step and can secure the backside or play side of runs.
He does have shorter arms that limit his abilities against faster speed rushers like Von Miller and his lack of weight has proven to be a concern given his off the field hobby of cooking. He’s small for a tackle but can succeed as an NFL guard if tasked with doing so.
Fantasy Impact of Jonah Williams
Nobody is going to go out and draft an Offensive Lineman but people are drafting Joe Mixon who just went for 1,000+ yards last season. Mixon did that with a work in progress Offensive Line and now he gets another blocker that really knows what he’s doing. With Williams being considered a guard, Mixon will now have more space in runs up the middle and more time to make smart decisions.
This also helps out Red Rider Andy Dalton and this elite grouping of receivers. Dalton took too many sacks last season and a better interior line will help out against blitz packages and strong nose tackles.
