With the third pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Alabama DT Quinnen Williams
A versatile pocket crusher who is very effective against the pass and run, Williams had 18.5 tackles for a loss in 2018. He also recorded seven sacks. NFL analysts have referred to him as an instant impact starter with All-Pro potential. He is very adept at quickly diagnosing plays and appears to have a very high football IQ. He has drawn pro comparisons to Ndamukong Suh and Jonathan Allen.
Fantasy Impact of Quinnen Williams
The Jets ranked 26th against the run and were 16th in the league with 39 sacks in 2018. This pick is a move in the right direction to get the New York defense stabilized in the middle where it counts. Bolstering the line in the middle will create easier pass rushing on the outside and as Williams blossoms, the Jets defense will be able to get to the QB faster and stop momentum for running backs. This is a pick that strengthens the very axis of the defense on the interior of the line and will eventually make the Jets tougher to use key offensive players against them.
