With the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins
The Redskins did not have to trade up to get their man as Haskins slipped further than many analysts predicted. Haskins fills an obvious need for Washington as they have all but lost Alex Smith and cannot lean on journeyman Case Keenum. Haskins has drawn pro comparisons to Drew Bledsoe and he is a solid pocket passer who throws a very good deep ball. But he lacks mobility and extensive starting experience in college.
Fantasy Impact of Dwayne Haskins
This is not an ideal situation for Haskins to enter, as the WR crew is very thin in Washington. The Redskins will need Josh Doctson to step forward in what may be a pivotal season for him. How much support Haskins will get from his running game and how stable his blocking will be are other questions to be considered. The supporting cast is very shaky for Haskins as his pro career begins. It actually may be better for him to sit behind Keenum for awhile if the veteran can play respectably. Haskins won’t have to much fantasy appeal as a rookie. But he does have promise as a back-end fantasy QB1 in the longer term.
