Fantasy Basketball Rankings Breakdown

ROUNDS 1-4

Fantasy MVP Nikola Jokic gets the number one spot. It’s hard to argue with the Joker who’s entering his prime and produces elite numbers at multiple categories. No Jamal Murray to begin the season is the cherry on top making him a lock for the top spot. It’s tough to rank the reigning finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo outside the top five but Stephen Curry and Luka Dončić offer too much upside to pass by.

Anthony Davis is my big-name to slide out of the first round. I am not wasting a first-round selection on the injury-riddled Davis. The Lakers have shown in the past the regular season is not important and I will not be drafting the big fella. Give me Karl Anthony Towns who has better FT% and averages 2.5 more rebounds per game. Kawhi Leonard gets bumped way out of the rankings due to uncertainty regarding his ACL injury. That leads to a bump in Paul George’s status who could flirt with top-10 status this year. Look out for Donovan Mitchell to take another jump in year-5 and keep proving Shaquille O’Neal and the doubters wrong. A top-20 fantasy season is in sight for the Jazz star.

Fred VanVleet gets a big boost with Kyle Lowry out of the picture in the North and getting an average rank inside the top-30. Michael Porter Jr. continues to offer tons of upside finishing last season with 19 PPG. The third-year pro is definitely worth taking a chance on early with some injuries going on in Denver. Dejounte Murray rounds out the top-four rounds after an impressive season averaging 15.7 points, 5.4 assists, and 7.1 rebounds. The 24-year-old continues to improve and is a breakout candidate for the 2021-22 season.

Rounds 5 and On

Don’t forget about the injured stars! Jaren Jackson Jr. played in just 11 games last season but was great in 2019 averaging 17.4 points and five rebounds per game. Lots of rebounds will be up for grabs with Jonas Valanciunas out of town to New Orleans. Caris LeVert looked great in a starting role with Indiana averaging 20.2 PPG and chipping in with 5.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds. Don’t let him slip too far. Cade Cunningham is the first rookie off the board in the seventh round. Doesn’t get much better than landing in Detroit where he could lead the team in scoring. Collin Sexton was amazing at times in 2020 and I expect another jump leading the Cavs in scoring and being worthy of a top-80 pick.

We finish off the last few rounds taking chances on guys like Nickeil Alexander-Walker who’s now running the point in New Orleans. Kevin Porter Jr. will score for Houston and after Dennis Schroder turned down all that money to sign for donuts in Boston, you know he’s going to be working overtime to get back that dough! I’m shipping up to Boston and getting Schroder on my team!
