2021 Fantasy Football Week 3 FAAB Guide

Welcome to the 2021 Fantasy Football Week 3 FAAB Guide. Every week I provide you with detailed coverage of all the NFL players you might be targeting. Most importantly, I guide you on how much to spend on each player for your fantasy football squad. You will find obvious player opinions like Derrick Henry still has potential, but I will also give you useful, less-heralded takes like Cordarrelle Patterson is a 2021 break-out in his ninth year. If you need Waiver Wire adds only, check out my pal Colin McTamany’s article here.

What?! Your league isn’t hosted on Fantrax? Inconceivable! Look at the incredible features Fantrax offers and then compare it to the competition. It’s pretty obvious that Fantrax is the right choice.

Week 3 FAAB Guide

$1,000 is a common budget size for season-long leagues and that is the template for my FAAB bid percentages. The 2021 Fantasy Football Week 3 FAAB Guide attempts to cover all styles of fantasy scoring, but usually, I write this article from a PPR point of view. All roster percentages for this week come from Fantrax and ESPN fantasy football leagues.

QB ADDS

PLAYERFANTRAX ROSTER %ESPN ROSTER %BID RANGEMATCHUP
Teddy Bridgewater53%15%8-10%NYJ
Derek Carr73%16%7-10%MIA
Sam Darnold59%5%7-10%@HOU
Daniel Jones57%11%3-5%ATL
Jacoby Brissett7%0%3-5%@LV
Jacob Eason14%0%2% or less@TEN

Reference Points:

  • How many times do I have to advocate for Teddy Two Gloves?! Even without Jerry Jeudy, Teddy Bridgewater has the crew on offense to bring you fantasy joy every week. He has the Jets in Mile High this week. Put your bid in right now.
  • Derek Carr played most of Sunday’s victory over the Steelers with a bad ankle but was still able to throw for 382 yards. He might sit out this week. Maintain stakeout-like vigilance as the week progresses.
  • Sam Darnold is benefitting from OC Joe Brady’s unique guidance. His performance so far is credible. He is a QB2 this week at Houston.
  • Jacoby Brissett will take the reins for the Miami offense. He threw 40 times in relief of Tua against Buffalo but was not able to provide even garbage time offensive output. He has 32 career starts with 31 passing touchdowns and 12 more scores on the ground. If you’re in need of a QB, Brissett is cheap and reliable.
  • Jacob Eason received hype as a possible challenger to Carson Wentz during training camp after being drafted in the 4th round of the 2021 NFL draft. We may get to find out after Wentz hurt his ankle again. Frank Reich has a strong QB coaching portfolio to stand on. In 16 team or dynasty leagues put down 1% of your FAAB.

RB ADDS

PLAYERFANTRAX ROSTER %ESPN ROSTER %BID RANGEMATCHUP
Cordarrelle Patterson43%8%8-12%@NYG
Sony Michel83%67%7-10%TB

Ty Johnson46%5%3-6%@DEN
Chuba Hubbard73%12%3% or less@HOU
Justin Jackson32%5%1% or less@KC
Trenton Cannon

Reference Points:

  • Cordarrelle Patterson is the eye of the beholder here at the 2021 Fantasy Football Week 3 FAAB Guide. Bid on him now and don’t look back. Sure, I got screwed on my MVS expectations thanks to the only errant passes Rodgers threw on Monday night, but there is an alternate reality in the multiverse where MVS had 2 TDs. Patterson is on the same arc as MVS. Both are viable players for your fantasy football squad.
  • Darrell Henderson Jr. is dealing with a rib cartilage injury. Sony Michel had 10 carries for 46 yards in relief of Henderson. He’s not sexy, but he will provide value in a powerful offensive attack.
  • Ty Johnson and Michael Carter came to a draw in snaps Sunday (31) while also ending tightly in production. The Jets are not good, but someone has to run the ball. The rookie Carter is the better back.
  • Darrel Williams scored a TD in Baltimore Sunday night. That’s about it. Clyde Edwards-Helaire fumbled at the end of the game costing KC the victory. Right now he’s too easy of a target for negativity. Don’t spend too much on Williams.
  • Trenton Cannon was an unheralded pickup by the 49ers after the Ravens waived him last Wednesday. With injuries ravaging the Niners backfield, Cannon could flourish against Green Bay’s below-average defense. Go get him!

WR ADDS

Preston Williams14%0%1-3%@LV
Brandon Zylstra0%0%1% or less@HOU
Freddie Swain3%0%1% or less@MIN
Jalen Guyton11%0%1% or less@KC

Reference Points:

  • K.J. Osborn is still widely available in fantasy leagues. There are enough receptions to go around in Minnesota to validate Osborn as a WR3. Osborn is not a rookie. He didn’t even get one look from Kirk Cousins in 9 games during 2020. Don’t miss out. This is your last chance to add him to your roster.
  • Rondale Moore had a 77 yard TD reception against Minnesota Sunday. He was as open as you can be in the NFL on that play. Take away that catch and his production was decent. With A.J. Green displaying competent play, target shares are going to vary week to week. Moore is definitely talented, but consistency will be elusive.
  • Jarvis Landry hurt his knee Sunday. It’s time for the People’s Jones to step up.
  • Braxton Berrios was a clutch WR at Miami, FL. He had 7 grabs on 11 targets against the Patriot’s stout defense. He had 55 targets last season. There is a track record for improvement here. Spend a couple of bones.
  • Houston WR Nico Collins will be out for a few weeks. That leaves Danny Amendola and not much else at WR.
  • Preston Williams debuted in Week 2 without much fanfare. In 16 games played over two seasons, Williams has a 50-716-7 stat line on 98 targets. Will Fuller’s status matters here. So be clear on his situation first.

TE ADDS

PLAYERFANTRAX ROSTER %ESPN ROSTER %BID RANGEMATCHUP
Hunter Henry75%40%2-4%NO
Dawson Knox27%3%2-4%WAS
Jack Doyle10%1%2-4%@TEN
Maxx Williams3%0%1-3%@JAX
Ricky Seals-Jones1%0%1% or less@BUF
David Njoku27%5%1% or lessCHI
Dan Arnold26%1%1% or less@HOU

Reference Points:

  • Jonnu Smith has dealt with a hip problem while still being active. Hunter Henry out-snapped Smith 47 to 29 versus the Jets. Mac Jones hasn’t relied on Henry. Yet. The best is still to come.
  • Dawson Knox is progressing in the Bills offense. One with many offensive threats. Knox is in the same tier with Maxx Williams. Both offenses have a plethora of options minimizing week-to-week consistency in receptions and yards. However, in standard-scoring leagues, Williams and Knox have red zone appeal.
  • David Njoku has a wealth of athleticism to show off. The problem for him is Harrison Bryant and Austin Hooper. The snap count from Sunday against Houston shows the trouble here: Hooper 43, Njoku 36, and Bryant 31. What I am leaning on here is the knee injury to Jarvis Landry opening up more two TE sets.

The Leftovers

  • Week 2 showed us that 100-yard running backs are scarce. Five RBs had 20 more carries, but two of those happened in OT games. This means RB production has a wide range of contributors. I know the term leftovers implies a lack of legitimate fantasy interest. However, that is not the case.
  • Jake Funk has quite a story. After two different ACL tears, he still was drafted this year in the 7th round by the Rams. While everybody else chases Sony Michel, consider Jake Funk.
  • Jerick McKinnon has been a useful RB in this league before. If the Chiefs lose faith in Clyde Edwards-Helaire, McKinnon could benefit the most.
  • Jaret Patterson was a star at the University of Buffalo including rushing for 301 yards in a game last year. The Washington Football team heads back to Patterson’s former zip code Sunday. If you want to get radical in deeper leagues play the hunch that Patterson snags a score.
  • The rest of these fellas are speculative adds (for the most part) with little to offer in the now.
