Glad to see y’all back for another week for RB rankings. My Week 5 RB rankings have moved around quite a bit. Some crucial injuries happened in Week 4 such as David Montgomery going down with a knee injury. Also through four weeks, we are starting to see which running backs are getting the snap shares.
Some RBs that I was high on at the beginning of the season are starting to lose their roles. Myles Gaskin, Mike Davis, and Damien Harris have dropped in their rankings this week. Mostly due to matchups, but also their usage in the backfield.
Just as a reminder if you haven’t seen the last four weeks of rankings, this list is based on half PPR scoring.
Yeah, we know football is in full swing. That doesn’t mean you can’t jump into fantasy hoops? From joining a public league with our Fantasy Basketball Commissioner to trying one of our Classic Draft Contests, there are plenty of ways to play Fantasy Basketball on Fantrax!
Week 5 RB Notes:
Is Saquon Barkley back? I think so, and this is why I have him ranked as my RB3 for Week 5. The Cowboys have been one of the better teams against the run. But, it is Barkley in the passing game that moves him up in this list. The Giants are banged up on the receiving end, leaving more and more targets for Barkley. Last week Barkley had 52 yards on the ground and 74 yards through the air. He had two touchdowns, one on the ground and one through the air as well. The Saints are no joke when it comes to defense and Barkley showed looks of his rookie year last week.
I have Cordarrelle Patterson as RB19 this week against the Jets. Like I said above, Davis is not the guy in the backfield for the Falcons this year. Patterson has moved into that role. Also, Patterson is getting more red-zone snaps than Davis as well. In half-PPR scoring, Patterson could easily jump into the top-15 if he keeps up his production. So far this season Davis has only had 22 more carries than Patterson. But, Patterson has 4.4 yards per carry to Davis’ 3.1. It is only a matter of time till Patterson completely takes over. The Jets are also the second-worst rushing defense this season. Don’t be surprised if Patterson drops over 20 fantasy points this week.
Lastly, I have both Kenneth Gainwell and J.D. McKissic ranked in the higher end of the 30s. I have Gainwell as my RB31 and McKissic as RB33 for Week 5. Both these backups have shown they could be starters on their teams. And at times have been better than the starters. McKissic is going against the Saints who do have a solid defense. But, McKissic is strongest in the passing game, and we saw what Barkley did last week. Also, McKissic has been thrown in slightly more than Gibson in the red zone the last couple of weeks. As for Gainwell, his production has been through the air as well. The Eagles are playing the Panthers this week. They have been solid against the run, so expect Miles Sanders to get stuff and Gainwell will capitalize in the passing game.
