Fantasy managers will be scrambling this week as six teams are on byes. For the quarterback position, that means Dak Prescott, Daniel Jones, Jacoby Brissett, Jimmy Garoppolo, Russell Wilson, and Kenny Pickett will all be out. However, there are still some nice options at the position worth considering. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the Week 9 quarterback rankings and notes.
Week 9 Quarterback Notes
Bye Weeks: CLE, DAL, DEN, NYG, PIT, SF
- Justin Fields has been on fire in the month of October and has steadily improved each week. Since Week 5, he’s finished as the QB12, QB7, QB5, and QB3. Fields gets a tasty Week 9 matchup against Miami who has the seventh-friendliest defense against quarterbacks. Fields’ mobility keeps his fantasy floor high. In the past three weeks, he’s rushed for at least 60 yards a game and has combined for two rushing touchdowns. Fields should continue to have a strong ground game this week, as the Dolphins are allowing the fourth-most rushing yards to the position. He’s a top-10 quarterback for me this week.
- Trevor Lawrence is coming off one of his worst performances of the season. He completed 18-of-31 pass attempts for 133 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. However, he has a nice rebound opportunity in Week 9 against Las Vegas. The Raiders are allowing the most fantasy points to quarterbacks (22.87), as well as the third-most passing touchdowns to the position (15). Lawrence is the QB10 on the season and has at least 18.7 fantasy points in two of the last three games. I like him as a back-end QB1 in Week 9.
- Marcus Mariota is the QB8 on the season and has scored at least 22 fantasy points in two of the last three weeks. He’s recently provided a nice rushing floor for fantasy managers, rushing for at least 43 yards in three of the last four games. This week, Mariota faces a middling Chargers defense that has allowed 13 passing touchdowns (tied for fifth-most). That, combined with his ground game, should equal a good day at the office for Mariota in Week 9. He’s a nice option this week, especially with six quarterbacks on byes.
- Taylor Heinicke is a solid option this week. He’s coming off a QB8 performance where he completed 23-of-31 passes for 279 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also contributed on the ground, adding 29 rushing yards and a game-winning rushing touchdown. Heinicke gets a favorable matchup this week against the Vikings. Minnesota is allowing the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks through seven weeks (18.75), as well as the seventh-most passing yards. Washington has had more success through the air this season, making Heinicke a mid-QB2 with upside.
