2023 Fantasy Football: Week 17 Tight End Rankings (Weekend Update!)

The big news at the position is that T.J. Hockenson is out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL. It’s a significant blow to fantasy lineups as we head into the championships. While there’s no replacing Hockenson’s talent, there are a couple of replacement options available if you’re in a bind this week. With that in mind, let’s get to my Week 17 tight end rankings and notes.

Injury Notes for Week 17

  • Cole Kmet is dealing with a knee injury and has been unable to practice this week. If he can’t suit up, Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan will likely split tight end duties.

Tight End Notes

  • Darren Waller hasn’t had a big game since returning from the injured reserve. But he has seen at least five targets per game and could make some noise this week. He faces a Rams defense that has allowed the third-most fantasy points to the position. Los Angeles has also given up the seventh-most receiving yards and eight touchdowns to tight ends, tied for second-most this year. Tyrod Taylor leaned upon Waller earlier this season and could again if the Giants make a switch at quarterback this week. Waller ranks as a back-end TE1 in my Week 17 tight end rankings.
  • Easton Stick loves throwing to Gerald Everett. Since Stick has been under center, Everett has commanded eight targets per game over the last three weeks. The looks should keep coming in Week 17. Everett has a dream matchup against a Broncos defense that has given up the most fantasy points and touchdowns to opposing tight ends. They’ve also allowed the second-most receiving yards to the position. Everett rounds out the top-12 for me in Week 17.
  • Chigoziem Okonkwo is coming off his best game of the season, hauling in all six of his targets for 63 yards and a touchdown. Okonkwo has seen at least five targets and posted no fewer than 45 receiving yards in all but one of his last five games. He should continue to roll this week against Houston. The Texans have allowed the most receptions and the third-most receiving yards to opposing tight ends this season. Look for another strong performance from Okonkwo in Week 17.
  • In deeper leagues, consider Juwan Johnson this week. He’s scored in back-to-back games and is coming off his best performance of the season, catching four of seven targets for 48 yards and a touchdown against the Rams. Johnson gets another favorable matchup against the Buccaneers in Week 17. Tampa Bay has given up the fifth-most fantasy points and receiving yards to tight ends this season. Johnson could surprise this week and ranks as a mid-tier TE2 in my Week 17 tight end rankings.
