The dynasty basketball power forward rankings have arrived with just over a month before the start of the season. While there aren’t any new additions to the top-10, there has been some movement in the rest of the rankings. Rookies are not well represented among the top-50 dynasty power forwards as Alex Sarr is the lone player ranked from this years draft class. Let’s take a look at some of the risers an fallers entering this year.
Dynasty Risers
Taylor Hendricks, Utah Jazz
Hendricks was selected ninth overall by the Utah Jazz in last year’s draft. He didn’t see much action in the first half of the season. Hendricks played in only 17 games before the All-Star break. As the Jazz fell further out of the playoff race, he started to get more run. He played in 23 games after the All-Star break and averaged 9.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.7 three-pointers over that span. Hendricks will have a larger role this year as he figures to be the top frontcourt option off the bench or possibly even contend for a starting job in Utah. I expect him to take a big step forward, which is why he has moved up 11 spots since the last dynasty basketball power forward rankings.
Julius Randle, New York Knicks
Randle missed the final two and half months of the season after suffering a dislocated shoulder. However, it was just the second time in his career that he played less than 60 games. He seems to be fully healthy now and has moved up several spots in my dynasty basketball power forward rankings. The Knicks gained Mikal Bridges but lost Isaiah Hartenstein in the off-season after he signed a three-year deal with the Thunder. Randle won’t provide many defensive stats, but he is one of the rare players who is capable of averaging 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two three-pointers. He also shot a respectable 47.2 percent from the field and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line last season. Don’t underestimate Randle, he’s still in his prime and will do a lot of the heavy lifting on offense for the Knicks.
Dynasty Fallers
Daniel Gafford, Dallas Mavericks
Gafford was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline last season. However, it wasn’t the ideal move for Gafford’s fantasy value going forward. Dallas invested a lottery pick in Dereck Lively in last year’s draft and he likely will get the majority of the minutes at center. After arriving in Dallas, Gafford averaged a measly 21.5 minutes per game. If his minutes are roughly the same this year, his upside will be capped. He has fallen seven spots in the dynasty basketball power forward rankings since the end of last season.
Jeremy Sochan, San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs added Harrison Barnes, Chris Paul, and Stephon Castle in the off-season. Sochan was the primary ball-handler for San Antonio last season, but with the addition of Paul and Castle, he will move back to playing his natural positions, small forward and power forward. The addition of Barnes could cut into Sochan’s playing time as well. Castle will also force Devin Vassell to play more small forward, which could also be an hindrance on Sochan’s minutes in the future. Since the Spurs didn’t lose any key players and had three big acquisitions, Sochan will face much more competition for minutes. He drops a whopping 18 spots since the last dynasty basketball power forward rankings.
