It is time to unveil the 2024-25 dynasty basketball small forward rankings. There has been some movement, but not a lot of big shakeups in the rankings from last season. The top-10 has one new addition, simply because Desmond Bane lost small forward eligibility this season. There are only three rookies ranked inside the top 40 and none ranked in the top 20. Let’s take a look at some of the dynasty risers and dynasty fallers heading into this season.
Dynasty Risers
Brandon Miller, Charlotte Hornets
Miller was the second overall pick in the 2023 draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting, behind Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama. Miller had a solid rookie campaign, averaging 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.6 blocks, and 2.5 three-pointers, but he will look to take things to the next level this season. Post All-Star break, he improved on his fantasy numbers, averaging 18.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.6 blocks and 2.9 three-pointers. He will likely build on those stats this year and could rise up even further in the dynasty basketball small forward rankings.
Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers
Leonard may seem like an odd choice as a dynasty riser as he just turned 33 years old in June. However, there are a couple of things to like about Leonard heading into this season. Paul George signed a deal in the off-season with the Philadelphia 76ers, so going forward, Leonard will need to shoulder more of the offensive load. He also played in 68 games last year, which is his most games played since the 2016-17 season, proving he can be durable at this stage in his career. Due to these two factors, Leonard is a good bet to improve his dynasty stock from last season.
Dynasty Fallers
Cam Whitmore, Houston Rockets
It may be a bit of a surprise to see Cam Whitmore in this spot. He is only 20 years old and averaged 12.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.7 three-pointers in his rookie year. Although he had an exceptional first season, he faces some stiff competition for playing time in Houston. The Rockets drafted Reed Sheppard with the third overall pick. He will most likely shift Jalen Green to play some small forward. Houston will also have to divvy up the minutes at the three and four between Jabari Smith Jr., Tari Eason, Dillon Brooks, and Amen Thompson. It may be tough for Whitmore to crack 20 minutes when this team is fully healthy. Due to the possibility of inconsistent playing time, he has fallen in the dynasty basketball small forward rankings.
Jaime Jaquez Jr., Miami Heat
Jaquez Jr. was drafted 18th overall in the 2023 draft by the Miami Heat. He finished 4th in the Rookie of the Year voting. Pre-All Star break, he averaged 12.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.2 blocks and 0.9 three-pointers. Post All-Star break, he saw his numbers drop to 10.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.3 blocks, and 0.8 three-pointers. He started in 20 games last year, mainly filling in for Tyler Herro and Jimmy Butler at various times. He was mostly used in a reserve role, where his stats were not nearly as good. Jaquez Jr. will be in a similar reserve role again this year with some competition for minutes off the bench. It’s very possible we don’t see much progression from Jaquez Jr., which is why he has fallen in the dynasty basketball small forward rankings.
