The NBA season has finally arrived with the first games of the season kicking off later tonight. It should be an exciting season full of new fantasy developments and storylines. There have been quite a few changes since the last update of the dynasty rankings. Before unveiling the new top-200 dynasty basketball rankings, let’s take a look at some of the risers and fallers entering this season.
Risers
Cameron Thomas, SG/SF, Brooklyn Nets
Mikal Bridges was dealt to the New York Knicks in the offseason for a slew of draft picks. This move has created an opportunity for Thomas to be the clear leader on offense for the Nets. Thomas averaged 26.6 points per game over his final 18 contests last season. He could very well be a top-10 scorer this season. Thomas will also contribute a plethora of three-pointers and a sparkling free-throw percentage. However, if he wants to take his fantasy game to the next level, he will need to improve his rebounds, assists, and defensive stats. If Thomas receives more minutes this year, there is a good chance that will happen.
Trayce Jackson-Davis, PF/C, Golden State Warriors
Jackson-Davis rises up several spots from the previous dynasty basketball rankings. He was the 57th overall selection in the 2023 draft. Jackson-Davis averaged 7.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in his rookie season. He made 16 starts last season and averaged 11.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks in those games. There is a strong possibility he could wind up being the starting center on opening night for the Golden State Warriors. Even if he does not enter the starting lineup, he should be the top big man off the bench and improve his stats across the board in his sophomore season.
Fallers
GG Jackson, PF, Memphis Grizzlies
Jackson was drafted 45th overall last year, so there weren’t high expectations for him in his rookie season. However, the Grizzlies were decimated by injuries and Jackson stepped up in a big way to average 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.1 three-pointers in 48 games. Ironically, the Grizzlies are much healthier entering this season, but Jackson will likely be sidelined until January after having surgery on his right foot in September. They drafted Zach Edey to hold down the starting center position, forcing GG Jackson to face much stiffer competition for playing time when he returns with Jaren Jackson, Santi Aldama, Brandon Clarke, Desmond Bane, Jake LaRavia, Vince Williams, and Luke Kennard all needing ample time on the court at the forward positions. This has caused him to fall a staggering 65 spots on the newest update of the dynasty basketball rankings.
Keldon Johnson, SG/SF/PF, San Antonio Spurs
Johnson seemed to be a cornerstone of the Spurs franchise after the 2022-23 season. During that season, he averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 three-pointers. However, he was relegated to a bench role last season and fell behind in the pecking order on offense to Victor Wembanyama and Devin Vassell. As a result, he saw his averages drop to 15.7 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 three-pointers last season. Johnson’s role has become even murkier entering this season with the additions of Harrison Barnes, Chris Paul, and Stephon Castle. His stats could take another dip this year, which is why he has tumbled down the dynasty basketball rankings.
