In this latest installment of our 2024 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers & Busts team series, we will focus on the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies are entering the campaign with low expectations, so fantasy baseball managers may be quick to avoid their players. Yet, they actually have some solid sleepers worth considering this season. As a result, let’s go over their top sleepers and their biggest bust candidate now.
Colorado Rockies Sleepers and Busts for 2024 Fantasy Baseball
Draft Day Sleepers
Ezequiel Tovar, SS
Ezequiel Tovar is a sleeper from the Rockies whom fantasy managers should seriously consider drafting. The 22-year-old had a spectacular first full season in the majors in 2022. In 153 games for the Rockies, he had 15 home runs, 73 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, and a .253 batting average. Overall, he was impactful both at the plate and on the base paths, so he’s a player to seriously consider once more of the big-name players are off the board.
Tovar has the potential to have an even better season in 2024, too. As noted above, the 2023 campaign was his first full season in the majors. As a result, now that he’s more adjusted to the league, he certainly could put up bigger numbers at the plate. The possibility of him having a 20-20 campaign is there. As a result, he’s a real sleeper from the Rockies to consider this season.
Hunter Goodman 1B/C/OF
Hunter Goodman is another Rockies sleeper worth taking a shot on in 2024. He dominated in the minors last season, posting 34 home runs, 111 RBIs, and a .259 batting average. With that, he was spectacular in Triple-A, as he had nine home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .371 batting average in only 15 games. Clearly, the potential for him to be an impactful MLB player is there, and he is expected to get far more chances with the Rockies this season because of it.
Goodman appeared in 23 games last season with the Rockies, where he had one home run, 17 RBIs, and a .200 batting average. While he struggled to hit for contact, he did show signs of promise and drove in plenty of runs. Thus, he is a clear breakout candidate in the new season. Because of this, he is another sleeper to consider this campaign from Colorado.
Draft Day Bust
Kris Bryant, 1B/3B/OF
Kris Bryant is one Rockies player who has the potential to be a bust in 2024. While he’s had an excellent career, he has some major red flags heading into the new season. He has dealt with injury trouble since joining the Rockies, and it impacted his play significantly in 2023. In 80 games last season, he had 10 home runs, 31 RBIs, and a low .233 batting average. It was simply a tough year for him at the plate. Because of this, drafting him early on due to his past success is extremely risky.
While there’s a chance that Bryant could have a bounce-back season, his recent injury trouble is just too notable to ignore. As a result of this and his clear struggles at the plate in 2023, he’s a player who may disappoint.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how these three Rockies perform in 2024 from here. Tovar is looking to build on his strong rookie season, Goodman is a breakout candidate, and Bryant needs to stay healthy.
