2024 Fantasy Football: Week 14 WR/TE Starts and Sits

And we thought Bye-mageddon in Week 12 was bad? Welcome to Week 14! The stakes are as high as they can be, with playoffs set to start next week. Between injuries and bye weeks, there are questions across all lineups and I’m here to help! Stuck between two players and don’t know who to start in Week 14? In these weekly articles, I will review and help you decide which WRs and TEs to start and sit every week based on matchups, weather conditions, injuries, and more. You’ll never see studs like Justin Jefferson or Ja’Marr Chase on this list, but this is more advice to help you decide between those two players that will help you set and win your weekly lineup. Week 14 Start and Sit

Start ‘Em Wide Receivers

Jakobi Meyers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jakobi Meyers has always been underrated in fantasy football. Not much has changed in 2024. Since Week 3 (when Davanate Adams had a coincidental injury prior to getting traded) Meyers has averaged nearly 10 targets a game, and 15.8 fantasy points per game. The Raiders went from Gardner Minshew, to Aidan O’Connell, who just threw for a season-high 340 yards. Brock Bowers is the #1 target in that offense, but Meyers is a strong 2nd. In Week 14 he now gets the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who allow the 9th-most points to opposing WRs. Fire him up and clinch that playoff spot!

Calvin Ridley vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Ridley looked to be non-existent in this offense until Week 7. Following his 0-catch performance in Week 6, Ridley has been the WR1 in this offense and has averaged 8.5 targets, and 14.8 fantasy points per game. Will Levis has been playing some of his best ball of the season, and this should continue this week vs. a Jacksonville Jaguars team that allows the 3rd-most points to opposing WRs. Despite what could be a low-scoring affair, Divisional rivalries always bring out the best in teams, and this is one that should do just that. Ridley is a solid FLEX play this week.

Darnell Mooney vs. Minnesota Vikings

Darnell Mooney got off to a hot start but has since cooled off a bit. In the last two weeks, Mooney has a total of 9.7 fantasy points and looks to get back on track vs. a Minnesota defense that gives up the most points to opposing WRs. Prior to his two-game stint, he was averaging 13.6 fantasy points per game and was the WR9 in fantasy football. This Atlanta offense is in a bit of a rut, and in what I believe will be the highest scoring game of the weekend, Mooney should get back on track and find his way to your lineup. Fire him up!

Sit ‘Em Wide Receivers

Deebo Samuel vs. Chicago Bears

As we near the end of the fantasy season, Deebo Samuel has been a big letdown for where he was being drafted. Coming into Week 14, Deebo now has three straight games where he’s scored less than 7 fantasy points and has had ONE 20-point game all season. With a struggling 49ers offense going against a tough Chicago defense, I’m not comfortable starting Deebo the week before playoffs. There are better options.

Adam Thielen vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Don’t get me wrong, Bryce Young has looked good over the last few weeks, and it’s been awesome to see him doing well. Adam Thielen is coming off his season-best performance last week, so why sit him? Well, this Philadelphia defense has stepped it up in a massive way and comes into Week 14 allowing the 6th-fewest yards to slot WRs, which is where Thielen primarily lines up. Additionally, the Eagles allow the 6th-fewest points to opposing WRs. All things considered, with Bye-Maggedon upon us, you may not have a choice but to start Thielen but know he’s in for a tough, tough day.

Brian Thomas Jr. vs. Tennessee Titans

I love Brian Thomas, don’t get me wrong. I don’t love Brian Thomas with Mac Jones under center, a Jaguars team that has everything to lose and nothing to gain, and a terrible matchup. The Titans allow the 7th-fewest points to opposing WRs, and without Trevor Lawrence, Thomas Jr. comes in averaging 5.4 fewer points per game. Unless the matchup is advantageous, Brian Thomas Jr. is unfortunately a sit play.

Start ‘Em Tight Ends

Jonnu Smith vs. New York Jets

Where did Jonnu Smith come from?! In the last 3 weeks, Jonnu Smith has averaged 10 targets a game, 8 receptions, and 100 yards a game. He has seemingly become the #1 target in this Miami offense, outpacing Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in the last 3 weeks. In a game where the Jets may contain the WRs, Jonnu is in for another glorious week. Keep riding the wave!

Sam LaPorta vs. Green Bay Packers

Sam LaPorta was deemed the TE1 coming into this season for many. What a ride we’ve been on! After a sluggish start, LaPorta has now seen 6+ targets in 5 of his last 6 games and comes off his first 2-TD game of the year last week. In this divisional showdown, I expect a shootout, and LaPorta should be heavily utilized once again.

Will Dissly vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Another rollercoaster of emotion, Dissly was finally starting to feel like a confident play. He put up a gooseegg last week but gets a chance at redemptions this week in yet another divisional game vs. the Chiefs. The Chiefs come in allowing the 4th-most points to opposing TEs, and in what should be another exciting, explosive game, Dissly comes back with a vengeance this week!

Sit ‘Em Tight Ends

Cole Kmet vs. San Francisco 49ers

I’m a big Kmet fan and think the potential is there, but he’s been underutilized in this Bears offense. While Caleb Williams and this offense have looked better and trending up, Kmet’s usage continues to be a problem. In the last 6 weeks, he has seen more than 4 targets once and has a combined 21 targets (less than 4 a game). The 49ers give up the 4th-fewest points to opposing TEs. Kmet should be on your bench.

Tucker Kraft vs. Detroit Lions

Tucker Kraft feels like the definition of Boom or Bust. Kraft has six games where he’s put up less than 8 fantasy points, and then five games where he’s put up more than 12. This week, he should be a bust play, in a game where he faces a Lions team that allows WRs to score some points but is stingy vs. the TE position. Sit him.

Pat Freiermuth vs. Cleveland Browns

Coming off his best game of the season, there could be signs of hope for fantasy owners for the Muth, but I’m staying away this week. Prior to his Week 13 game, he had seen more than 5 targets just twice and was more of a short-gain play vs. a relevant part of this offense. In their Week 9 matchup vs. the Browns, Muth put up 9 fantasy points and played a little part in this offense. I would expect a similar outcome in Week 14.
