2024 Fantasy Football: Week 4 WR/TE Starts and Sits

Offenses seemed to wake up in Week 3! For fantasy football purposes, let’s hope that trend continues in Week 4. Stuck between two players and don’t know who to start in Week 4? In these weekly articles, I will review and help you decide which WRs and TEs to start and sit every week based on matchups, weather conditions, injuries, and more. You’ll never see studs like Justin Jefferson or CeeDee Lamb on this list, but this is more advice to help you decide between those two players that will help you set and win your weekly lineup. Week 4 Start and Sit

Start ‘Em Wide Receivers

Mike Evans vs. Philadelphia Eagles

After Mike Evans got off to a hot start in Week 1, we’ve seen a combined 10.9 fantasy points from him in the last 2 weeks. With only 15 targets through the first 3 weeks of the season, HC Todd Bowles has mentioned that they must get Mike Evans more involved in this offense. Week 3 presented a tough challenge against one of the best young CBs in the league in Patrick Surtain, so Week 4 is a chance to get Evans back on track, in what should be a high-scoring matchup vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly comes into this game allowing the 4th-most points to the WR position, and I expect Mike Evans to have a “vintage” game in Week 4. Wheels up on Big Mike!

Rome Odunze vs. Los Angeles Rams

I hope you drafted Rome Odunze and had the patience not to drop him through the first 2 weeks. Fantasy owners who stayed patient with Rome Odunze were thrilled to see his Week 3 breakout! After a combined 3 receptions in Weeks 1 and 2, Odunze had a breakout performance in Week 3. He ended as the WR1 in Chicago, putting up 6 receptions, for 112 yards, and a TD, on 11 targets (WR7 finish) and a 99% snap count. This seems like the kind of game that the rookie WR needed to gain the confidence of his QB and for himself. Odunze has a WR-friendly matchup vs. the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4, who have given up the 6th-most points to WRs this season and should continue building on his Week 3 breakout. Keenan Allen is trending to sit out another week as he nurses an injury, so it will give Odunze a continued chance to keep building rapport and should earn another week in your starting lineup.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba vs. Detroit Lions

What a ride! Smith-Njigba was WR77 in Week 1, WR8 in Week 2, and WR59 in Week 3. So naturally, he gets a great matchup in Week 4. While JSN has been inconsistent with fantasy points, he has consistently seen his snap count percentage increase every week, from 79% in Week 1, to 83% in Week 2, and 88% in Week 3. He faces a Detroit Lions defense that has allowed both slot WRs in Chris Godwin and Cooper Kupp to go for 100+ receiving yards, and a TD. JSN should be in for a big week.

Sit Em Wide Receivers

Jameson Williams vs. Seattle Seahawks

Jameson Williams saw 20 targets through the first two weeks of the season and quickly came back down to earth in Week 3 vs. Arizona. The Detroit Lions offense hasn’t quite hit the stride they did last season, and now face one of the league’s toughest defenses in 2024 in the Seattle Seahawks. Through 3 games, Seattle has not allowed a WR to put up more than 45 receiving yards so far this season. While Sam LaPorta’s availability is in question, I believe the Lions will try and keep this game on the ground, limiting Williams’ opportunity in Week 4. Keep Williams on the bench this week.

Xavier Worthy vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Worthy has proved he’s the definition of Boom or Bust, amiright? After his Week 1 Boom, Worthy has ended as WR70, and WR77 in the last two weeks. Worthy has yet to see more than 4 targets in a game, and with the further emergence of Rashee Rice in that offense, I don’t see how Worthy can carve out a role in this offense just yet to be a reliable fantasy start. He had a season-low 50% snap count in Week 3, and in a game that might be a low-scoring battle, I wouldn’t bet this is a “boom” game for Worthy. He’s not worthy of your starting lineup.

Any GB WR vs. Minnesota Vikings

An offense in Green Bay without Jordan Love is an offense I don’t want anything to do with WRs for fantasy purposes. The highest-scoring WR since Love’s injury was Romeo Doubs, with 9.2 in Week 2, and that was thanks to his 39-yard reception. Malik Willis gets an extremely tough matchup vs. the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4, that just contained CJ Stroud to 215 yards and 2 turnovers. Until Jordan Love comes back, it’s best you leave any and all GB WRs on your bench.

Start ‘Em Tight Ends

Jake Ferguson vs. New York Giants

While the TE position has been a bit of a letdown in 2024, Jake Ferguson’s return after his injury was not. Ferguson came in and led the Cowboys in targets (11), receptions (6), and yards (95) in Week 3. Through three weeks, Dak Prescott leads the league in pass attempts (122), and being the #2 target in this offense will benefit him greatly. In a game the Cowboys need to desperately win to avoid 1-3 in a divisional game, this offense should see some fireworks and Ferguson should be a part of it. Start him with confidence.

Cole Kmet vs. Los Angeles Rams

In a game where Caleb Williams threw the ball 52 times, the entire Bears offense saw a boost in fantasy production in Week 3. Cole Kmet saw a season-high 11 targets, a career-high 10 receptions, and 97 yards, which, similarly to Rome Odunze above, should continue to build momentum. Kmet’s on-the-field usage was concerning after week 1, with a 48% snap count (lowest since his rookie season) and what looked to be a two-headed TE room with Gerald Everett, but that can be put to rest after Week 3’s performance (81% for Kmet vs. 33% for Everett). The Los Angeles Rams defense has shown some gaps in 2024, and this Bears offense should continue to expose some of it. I expect another high-scoring game, and Cole Kmet will once again be a TE1. Fire him up this week!

Brenton Strange vs. Houston Texans

What a STRANGE world we live in. In Evan Engram’s absence, Brenton Strange has had two back-to-back Top 10 TE finishes, averaging close to 6 targets a game. In a divisional rival game, this Jacksonville Jaguars offense should wake up from their abysmal start to their 2024 campaign, and with Evan Engram out another week, Brenton Strange becomes a viable injury filler if Sam LaPorta or Trey McBride are out.

Sit ‘Em Tight Ends

Mark Andrews vs. Buffalo Bills

Two weeks ago, I said not to worry about Mark Andrews. I come to you now, telling you, to worry just a tad. Andrews has seen his snap count% drop over the last 3 weeks, (74% in Week 1, 63% in Week 2, and 33% in Week 3. The last time Mark Andrews was on the field and didn’t log a single reception was back in 2018 during his rookie campaign. The Ravens seem to be finding their identity this season, earning their first win of the season vs. Dallas last week, so I expect this offense to get their stars integrated into this offense, but until we start to see an uptake in Andrews’ usage… Leave him on your bench.

Colby Parkinson vs. Chicago Bears

If Colby Parkinson was going to be a thing in 2024, it would have happened by now. The stars aligned for him to produce in this offense, after the injuries sustained to Cooper Kupp and Puka Nakua, but Parkinson seems to not be involved in this offense the way fantasy football owners thought. Through three games, Parkinson has seen an average of 4 targets, 3 receptions, and 26 yards. One encouraging sign for Parkinson in Week 3 that’s worth highlighting is that he was actually on the field for every snap on offense for the Rams vs. San Francisco. The Rams face a tough Chicago defense in Week 4, and I don’t anticipate this is the week that Parkinson breaks out. Leave him on the bench.

Greg Dulcich vs. New York Jets

Any hope you had for Greg Dulcich should be gone for the 2024 season. Dulcich was held without a catch in Week 3 and was out-snapped by Adam Trautman and Nate Adkins. At this point, not only is he not startable, he’s likely a drop candidate.
