Puka Nacua, WR, Los Angeles Rams
Puka Nacua burst onto the scene with an outstanding rookie season, amassing over 100 receptions and 1,400 receiving yards. His performance has vaulted him into the first-round conversation, with an ADP of 12. However, this high valuation may be unsustainable.
Nacua’s rapid rise to stardom really came out of nowhere; he was the 20th wide receiver taken in the 2023 NFL Draft. As teams now have more film on him, he will likely face tighter coverage. Additionally, the return of a healthy Cooper Kupp, who was the WR1 in 2022, will eat into Nacua’s target share. Given these factors, Nacua’s fantasy value may never be higher than it is now. Trading him while his stock is at its peak could prevent future disappointment.
Jordan Love, QB, Green Bay Packers
Jordan Love’s breakout 2023 season has significantly boosted his fantasy stock. However, this surge in popularity might have inflated his value beyond reasonable expectations. After a full year as a starter, Love’s limitations are becoming apparent.
His completion percentage and passing yards per game were lower than those of peers like Brock Purdy and Dak Prescott, who are similarly ranked. Moreover, Love lacks the ability to run, having only rushed for 247 yards last season, averaging 14.5 rushing yards per game. With the quarterback position being deeper than ever, there are safer, more versatile options available. Selling Love while he is still in the spotlight could be a smart move.
De’Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins
De’Von Achane is another player whose value might never be higher. In his rookie season, he showed flashes of brilliance with 800 rushing yards on 103 carries, averaging an eye-popping 7.8 yards per carry, and scoring 11 touchdowns in just 11 games. The excitement and wonder amongst fantasy players have inflated Achane’s actual value, though.
Achane shares the backfield with Raheem Mostert, who led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns in 2023. The Dolphins also drafted Jaylen Wright, who has impressed during training camp. This crowded backfield could limit Achane’s touches. Trading him now could help you avoid the potential frustration of a diminished role.
Jayden Reed, WR, Green Bay Packers
Jayden Reed had a solid rookie year with 64 receptions, 793 yards, and two touchdowns. However, his long-term fantasy prospects are clouded by the depth of the Packers’ receiving corps. Reed has to compete for targets with Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, Romeo Doubs, Luke Musgrave, and Tucker Kraft.
This competition makes it difficult to rely on Reed as a consistent fantasy performer. Despite his promising rookie stats, selling Reed now could be prudent, as his value may not hold up amidst the plethora of receiving options in Green Bay.
Joe Mixon, RB, Houston Texans
Joe Mixon, now with the Houston Texans, remains a high-value running back in many fantasy rankings. Last season, he rushed for 1,034 yards and scored nine touchdowns. However, these yards came on 257 carries, averaging just four yards per carry. Mixon has struggled with efficiency throughout his career, surpassing 4.1 YPC only once, back in 2018.
Mixon’s value is largely volume-dependent, and in Houston’s pass-first offense, he might not see the same volume of carries he did with the Bengals. Furthermore, he will face competition from Damion Pierce for touches. Selling Mixon now could help you avoid the decline in value that might come with his new role.
