Pennzoil 400 NASCAR DFS Picks: Race Day Recommendations

If you’re looking for a primer for the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube, check out our preview here. If you’re looking for some race day recommendations, I’ve got you covered for both FanDuel and DraftKings which are the two primary sites that host NASCAR DFS competitions.

If you play season-long fantasy, I’ll try to give you an array of ideas on who to roster or not roster this week, but obviously, the final decision is yours related to how your league is scored.

One note: Keep in mind that qualifying position (QP) is very important with regard to NASCAR fantasy. For comparison’s sake, FanDuel rewards laps led with only 0.1 point but you earn or lose 0.5 points for place differential. On DraftKings, it’s even more stark: Laps led is 0.25 points whereas place differential is +/- 1 point. We’re looking for drivers who have a lower QP and are most likely to advance early and often.

Never played Fantasy NASCAR? Head on over to Fantrax and give one of our public leagues a go. Leagues are still filling up! There’s no better time than now to give it a try!

With that in mind, here are the drivers I am focused on for today’s Pennzoil 400:

FanDuel Values

  • Kevin Harvick
    Salary: $9500
    QP: 25
  • Kurt Busch
    Salary: $9200
    QP: 37
  • Brad KeselowskiSalary: $9000
    QP: 15
  • Austin Cindric
    Salary: $8000
    QP: 3
  • Chris Buescher
    Salary: $6500
    QP: 27

DraftKings Values

  • Kyle Larson
    Salary: $11,300
    QP: 2
  • Chris BuescherSalary: $6500
    QP: 27
  • Kevin Harvick
    Salary: $9100
    QP: 25
  • Kurt Busch
    Salary: $8900
    QP: 31
  • Ty Dillon
    Salary: $5600
    QP: 32

The FanDuel options are appealing because of the amount of success some of those drivers have had at Las Vegas Speedway. Keselowski has the highest average finish over the last six years and crossed the line in the Top 10 in five of them. Harvick and Busch are previous winners, and Kurt is on his home turf.

Chris Buscher appears on both lists and is the same price on both sites which is typically a good sign that he is accurately priced. His qualifying position of 27th leaves plenty of room for positional value and, aside from a crash, he should finish in a positive spot. He is a great Pennzoil 400 lineup builder on both platforms.

Truthfully, I will have Kyle Larson in many of my lineups, both because he is a previous Las Vegas winner and because I feel like he has the potential to lead the vast majority of the laps after starting in the second position. It’s a bit of a risk in terms of positional score, but he is the one driver I have absolutely no issue rolling with in this regard.
