As we head into Week 11, bye weeks and injuries are hitting the already-shallow tight end position hard. Evan Engram, Mike Gesicki, Will Dissly, Noah Fant, and Cameron Brate are all out on byes. There are also some significant injuries that need to be addressed before we dive into the Week 11 tight end rankings.
The big news on the injury front concerns Zach Ertz. The Arizona tight end suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 10. This is terrible news as Ertz was in the middle of a fantastic season. He was the second-most targeted tight end behind Travis Kelce through 10 weeks, and the TE3 in half-PPR scoring. Rookie Trey McBride should take over as the team’s primary tight end. McBride won’t automatically absorb Ertz’s targets, but he does offer some upside if you’re looking for a replacement.
In another tough blow, Dallas Goedert will miss extended time after suffering a shoulder injury in Monday night’s game. Goedert’s 544 receiving yards were second-most on the Eagles behind A.J. Brown, and he was the TE5 on the season. Jack Stoll and Grant Calcaterra should see more playing time, but will likely not have much of an impact moving forward.
In Baltimore, Mark Andrews has a good shot at returning this week. He’s had two weeks to heal up from a knee and shoulder injury. However, if he misses more time, Isaiah Likely would again be the lead tight end. Gerald Everett is day-to-day with a groin injury and it’s unclear if he’ll play in Week 11. If he misses time, Tre’ McKitty would step in. In Cleveland, David Njoku could return this week after suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 7. Harrison Bryant would continue to fill in if he can’t suit up. As always, be sure to monitor the injury reports throughout the week and adjust your lineups accordingly. Good luck in Week 11!
Week 11 Tight End Notes
Bye Weeks: JAX, MIA, SEA, TB
- George Kittle had his worst game of the season in Week 10, catching one of two targets for 21 yards. But don’t sweat it. He gets a nice bounce-back opportunity this week against Arizona. The Cardinals are bleeding fantasy points to tight ends. They’ve allowed the most receptions and receiving yards to the position. Additionally, they’ve surrendered seven touchdowns to tight ends, tied for league-most. Expect Kittle to get back on track this week.
- Dalton Schultz caught six-of-eight targets for 54 yards in Week 10. He also caught his first touchdown of the season. Both the targets and receiving yards were second only to CeeDee Lamb. Schultz has seen an increase in playing time and targets since returning from his knee injury in Week 7. Over his last three games played, Schultz has scored the fifth-most fantasy points in half-PPR scoring. He gets a nice Week 11 matchup against a Vikings’ defense that is allowing the seventh-most fantasy points to tight ends.
- Cole Kmet has finished as the top tight end in back-to-back weeks. Last week, he caught four of his seven targets for 74 yards and scored two touchdowns. Both the targets and receiving yards led the team. The Bears’ offense has exploded in the last couple of weeks and Kmet has benefited. He’s scored five touchdowns over the last three games, and he leads the team in red zone targets this season. Kmet should keep rolling in Week 11 with Atlanta giving up the third-most receptions and receiving yards to tight ends. The Falcons have only allowed one touchdown through 10 weeks, but the volume should still be there for Kmet. He’s a TE1 for me this week.
- Tyler Conklin could be worth taking a flier on this week. He’s been a little hit-or-miss this season, but he’s seen at least six targets in two of his last three games. This week, he gets a favorable matchup against New England. The Patriots are allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to tight ends. They’ve also given up seven touchdowns to the position, tied for league-most. Conklin last faced the Patriots in Week 8 and had his best game of the season, catching 6-of-10 targets for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Don’t bet on a repeat, but a solid stat line for Conklin is in the cards in Week 11.
