Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Sunday, April 2, 2023.
MLB Injury Report for April 2
Kyle Wright – SP Atlanta Braves
Brian Snitker said he thinks Kyle Wright is scheduled to pitch next Wednesday.
This makes sense. Triple-A Gwinnett currently lists a "TBD" for Wednesday in Norfolk.
— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) April 1, 2023
The plan for Wright continues to be to pitch in rehab starts before making his season debut later this month. Both he and the Braves hope for a minimum stay on the Injured List.
Max Fried – SP Atlanta Braves
#Braves ace Max Fried (hamstring) definitely will go on the injured list, Brian Snitker said. Don’t need to make the move until his next scheduled turn because bullpen is fresh has an extra arm right now anyway.
— David O'Brien (@DOBrienATL) April 1, 2023
It’s unclear as to why the team hasn’t yet made the move, despite the reason given here. Sure the team doesn’t necessarily need another spot, but anything can happen in a game/series, so why not have that extra body? Still, it must be frustrating to fantasy owners everywhere with an IL slot to use.
Brayan Bello – SP Boston Red Sox, James Paxton – SP Boston Red Sox, Garrett Whitlock – SP Boston Red Sox
Meant to update this: Paxton pitching for Worcester in in Buffalo on Tuesday and Bello pitching for Worcester in Buffalo on Wednesday. Whitlock still going Thursday in Portland.
— Jen McCaffrey (@jcmccaffrey) April 1, 2023
All three pitchers are moving along nicely in their respective progressions. If one were to guess the order in which they will return, it would be Whitlock, Bello, Paxton. That said, none of the three mentioned pitchers are expected to be gone for long.
Joey Votto – 1B Cincinnati Reds
The #Reds today sent 1B Joey Votto to Triple-A Louisville on a rehab assignment. pic.twitter.com/m8L4Kflgkn
— Cincinnati Reds (@Reds) April 1, 2023
He could be ready when first eligible, which would be in about a week. It will be interesting to see where his bat is at after shoulder surgery.
Ryan Pressly – RP Houston Astros
Dusty Baker said Ryan Pressly is “under the weather” and wasn’t going to pitch yesterday or today.
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) April 1, 2023
Interesting development here, as Pressly was seen shaking out his pitching hand recently. Let’s hope that it’s just an illness and nothing more for the Astros closer. Rafael Montero, Hector Neris, and Bryan Abreu are all candidates for saves should Pressly miss time.
Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels
Anthony Rendon might get a day off tomorrow after crashing into the tarp during the game today. Was getting treatment on his left knee after the game. Not considered serious.
— Sam Blum (@SamBlum3) April 1, 2023
Any injury to Rendon should be considered noteworthy, given his extensive injury history. That said, it’s encouraging that the team doesn’t think of it as a serious injury. For now, he’s DTD until otherwise noted.
Max Muncy – 3B Los Angeles Dodgers
#Dodgers Max Muncy came out of the game because — as Dave Roberts summarized it — "he had an interaction with a baseball that he needed to catch his breath a little." That interaction involved a very sensitive area of the body. He will be re-evaluated tomorrow.
— Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) April 2, 2023
It would seem that Muncy is DTD with general mid-to-lower body soreness. He can’t be blamed for needing a break. Owners should resist the urge of being testy with the team’s decision.
Luis Urias – 3B Milwaukee Brewers
Luis Urías is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with his left hamstring injury and the Brewers expect to be more on the eight-week end, per Craig Counsell.
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) April 1, 2023
The team is expecting Urias to miss close to eight weeks as the injury is on the severe side of things. In the meantime, the most ideal lineup likely features Brian Anderson at third base and prospect Joey Wiemer in right field.
Harrison Bader – OF New York Yankees
Harrison Bader is with the team in New York. He swung in a pool yesterday and will continue to do so today and tomorrow, according to Aaron Boone, who said that Bader could begin swinging in a cage and re-introduce a throwing program within the week.
— Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) April 1, 2023
Good to see Bader progressing well. He will need a rehab assignment to get himself into game shape once he’s ready. He could be back come May.
Ranger Suarez – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Latest Phillies injury updates (1/2)
– Ranger Suárez (left forearm) felt good after a bullpen session Friday and will have another one on Monday.
– Cristopher Sánchez (left triceps) is throwing two innings today in Clearwater— Tim Kelly (@TimKellySports) April 1, 2023
Great news that Suarez was able to throw a successful bullpen. His third attempt will be tomorrow, and then a general sense of direction will likely be given.
Mitch Haniger – OF San Francsico Giants

— Maria I. Guardado (@mi_guardado) April 1, 2023
The upcoming re-evaluation will determine how soon Haniger can return. For now, consider him out for most of April, but that can change.
Joey Bart – C San Francisco Giants
Joey Bart wasn’t available to hit off the bench tonight, per Gabe Kapler.
Bart hurt his back during batting practice, Kapler said. Will get a scan.
— Danny Emerman (@DannyEmerman) April 1, 2023
Bart’s availability will depend on the outcome of the scan. He is likely going to get it before Sunday’s game. Stay tuned.
Robbie Ray – SP Seattle Mariners
Ray underwent a MRI this morning and it revealed a Grade 1 strain.
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) April 1, 2023
Ray will be shut down for two weeks before even throwing a baseball. He will likely miss all of April and possibly some of May as he’ll need at least one rehab appearance before returning.
Lars Nootbar – OF St. Louis Cardinals
Lars Nootbaar is unavailable today. Marmol said he jammed his thumb sliding into third on Thursday. Took some swings yesterday and had a little residual pain but not an IL concern. Imaging came back clear.
— Jeff Jones (@jmjones) April 1, 2023
Great news that the injury doesn’t seem significant in any way. He should be back in the lineup soon.
Brandon Lowe – 2B Tampa Bay Rays
#rays removed Brandon Lowe in 4th inning with a right big toe contusion – neither Cash or Lowe seem too concerned pic.twitter.com/xMOWedPBGD
— Steve Kinsella (@Steve_Kinsella1) April 1, 2023
A good listen here, as both Lowe and Cash believe he’ll be fine. Listening to Cash, he did say Lowe would likely have today off, so check your lineups.
