Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Thursday, April 6, 2023.
Your league didn’t use Fantrax this season? Preposterous! Check out all that Fantrax has to offer and we think your entire league will make a change for next season.
Kyle Bradish – SP Baltimore Orioles

— Dan Connolly (@danconnolly2016) April 5, 2023
The foot contusion injury will require a longer-term recovery process. He is eligible to return in two weeks, and the Orioles are confident that he will be back for the team when they’re in Washington.
Brayan Bello – SP Boston Red Sox
Red Sox announce Brayan Bello, who's rehabbing in extended spring training, threw 72 pitches over five innings. He'll likely pitch at least one more start at a minor league affiliate.
— Jen McCaffrey (@jcmccaffrey) April 5, 2023
Bello pitched here instead of the team’s Triple-A affiliate because of the weather, not a setback. He will likely need at least one real rehab outing before making his 2023 debut.
Garrett Whitlock – SP Boston Red Sox
Garrett Whitlock is likely to make his 2023 debut on Tuesday in St. Petersburg.
— Chris Cotillo (@ChrisCotillo) April 5, 2023
Whitlock still needs to make one more rehab start today, but assuming all goes well, Tuesday is the plan.
Eloy Jimenez – OF Chicago White Sox
White Sox say Eloy Jiménez will miss 2-3 weeks with a left hamstring strain. Jake Burger recalled.
— James Fegan (@JRFegan) April 5, 2023
Jimenez hurt himself trying to go from first to third on a base hit. It is believed that he will miss only two weeks, but given his injury history, it’s possible for the full three weeks. All that being said, he should be back before the month of May begins.
Jazz Chisholm – 2B/OF Miami Marlins
Per #Marlins @BallyMarlins broadcast: Jazz left with a stinger in right shoulder. Day to day. Getting treatment.
— Christina De Nicola (@CDeNicola13) April 5, 2023
Considering the look and nature of the injury, this is good news. He’s unlikely to play in today’s game and is DTD, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s out for a few days.
Aaron Ashby – SP/RP Milwaukee Brewers
Craig Counsell says that Aaron Ashby will have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder in Washington, DC on Friday.
“This puts him out for significant time,” says Craig Counsell.
— Todd Rosiak (@Todd_Rosiak) April 5, 2023
Significant time indeed, as this will keep him out for most if not all of the 2023 season. His diagnosis has gone from bad to worse, but if this is a long-term fix, then he’s a candidate for a 2024 sleeper already.
Max Kepler – OF Minnesota Twins
#MNTwins lineup vs. LHP Jesús Luzardo:
DH Byron Buxton, R
SS Carlos Correa, R
1B Donovan Solano, R
3B Jose Miranda, R
2B Kyle Farmer, R
C Ryan Jeffers, R
LF Willi Castro, S
RF Trevor Larnach, L
CF Michael A. Taylor, RStacking eight righties and Larnach in first game vs. lefty.
— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) April 5, 2023
Kepler is out for another game after suffering from a bout of patellar tendinitis. It remains to be seen if he will return soon or require an IL stint.
Justin Verlander – SP New York Mets
The Mets say Justin Verlander underwent a follow-up MRI today that revealed "reduced inflammation" in his teres major muscle. He will continue throwing, which he had been doing despite the injury. Still no timeline for a return.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) April 5, 2023
Verlander has not stopped throwing since his teres major muscle diagnosis. Reduced inflammation is a promising development. While it states no timetable, there have been murmurs of an April 25 return date, though nothing is set in stone.
Omar Narvaez – C New York Mets
One additional injury concern for the Mets: catcher Omar Narváez tweaked his calf late in today's game, which is why Buck Showalter subbed Tomás Nido in for him. Narváez is day-to-day for the time being.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) April 5, 2023
This injury paved the way for a Francisco Alvarez call-up.
Josh Donaldson – 3B New York Yankees
Aaron Boone doesn't think Josh Donaldson's hamstring is too severe, but Boone noted those can always be tricky. Possible MRI coming. #Yankees
— Gary Phillips (@GaryHPhillips) April 5, 2023
While the team doesn’t fear anything serious, it’s important to note that Donaldson has difficulty remaining in the lineup in his elder years. Regardless of if there is an Injury List trip waiting to happen, consider him out for the foreseeable future.
Brandon Marsh – OF Philadelphia Phillies
Marsh has a mild left ankle sprain, the Phillies said. He is day to day.
— Matt Gelb (@MattGelb) April 5, 2023
The team will reassess his health before their next game, but it doesn’t appear to be too serious at this time.
Darick Hall – 1B/UT Philadelphia Phillies
Kody Clemens is being called up by Phillies. Clemens is expected to be activated tomorrow. Darick Hall is hurt.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) April 5, 2023
This was the only news regarding Hall’s injury status, with no indication of how long he is expected to miss. There will likely be an update later today.
Oneil Cruz – SS Pittsburgh Pirates
Oneil Cruz is being evaluated for a face injury
— Alex Stumpf (@AlexJStumpf) April 5, 2023
The injury happened when Curz collided with Rafael Devers. It looked like his left eye was hurting the most out of everything on his face. Stay tuned for updates.
Thairo Estrada – 2B/SS San Francisco Giants
Kapler pregame: Estrada should be in lineup tomorrow. His calf was still a little stiff this morning … also, Alex Cobb will start the home opener Friday.
— Alex Pavlovic (@PavlovicNBCS) April 5, 2023
Interesting to note that it was still stiff, but the team seems confident in his return today. Play him with confidence unless told otherwise.
St. Louis Cardinals – Team Update
Some non-hustle related updates btw:
Adam Wainwright throws a bullpen tomorrow. Team is not sure if Lars Nootbaar will require a rehab assignment yet. Paul DeJong starts a rehab assignment with Palm Beach tomorrow as well. He'll DH for three at-bats. #STLCards
— Katie Woo (@katiejwoo) April 5, 2023
Some important progression notes here. Wainwright will throw a bullpen today and the team will determine its next steps for him. Nootbar could go on a rehab assignment, which might delay his return. DeJong will likely need an extended rehab outing, as he’ll need to prepare with his bat and glove…there’s talk of him being a utility player upon his return.
