MLB Injury Report for April 9
Travis d’Arnaud – C Atlanta Braves
Travis d’Arnaud expected to go on 7-day concussion IL after Saturday’s collision at the plate, #Braves manager Brian Snitker said.
— David O'Brien (@DOBrienATL) April 9, 2023
Sean Murphy will be the team’s primary catcher now with d’Arnaud about to miss about one week of playing time. There’s no guarantee that he will be back within the minimum missing time either.
Jorge Mateo – SS Baltimore Orioles
Jorge Mateo is dealing with ankle soreness, has been for a couple days. He’s getting a breather today on a night game before day game, but could be available off the bench during the later innings.
— Dan Connolly (@danconnolly2016) April 8, 2023
Consider Mateo DTD for now until otherwise told. Gunnar Henderson slid over to shortstop while Ramon Urias played third base in his absence.
James Paxton – SP Boston Red Sox, Brayan Bello – SP Boston Red Sox, Garrett Whitlock – SP Boston Red Sox
The plan is for Paxton to pitch four innings in this start, while Bello’s goal is to reach six innings. This could be the final start for Bellow before getting called up, but nothing is set in stone. As for Whitlock, be prepared to insert him into your lineups.
CJ Cron – 1B Colorado Rockies

Consider Cron as DTD while he battles through these symptoms. Mike Moustakas took his place at first base in his absence.
Austin Meadows – OF Detroit Tigers

— Tigers PR (@DetroitTigersPR) April 8, 2023
This is obviously something that is bigger than baseball, and thus, time away from the game is what’s best. Here’s hoping that Meadows gets what he needs and can be the happy and healthy person that he can be. Whether or not that’s in the game of baseball is beside the point.
Miguel Rojas – SS Los Angeles Dodgers
Dave Roberts said Miguel Rojas could be back in the lineup tomorrow if all goes well. Plan would be for Rojas to play tomorrow, sit on Monday in San Francisco and be back in there on Tuesday.
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) April 8, 2023
Rojas has been sidelined for the better part of April, so a return here would be welcomed.
Adrian Houser – SP Milwaukee Brewers
Adrian Houser threw another bullpen today and will head to Nashville on a rehab assignment tomorrow. He will work as a multi-inning reliever there.
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) April 8, 2023
Houser will begin his work as a multi-inning reliever in his rehab assignment. The plan is for him to carry over that role when he’s here with the Brewers too. There is no timetable for a return, however.
Max Kepler – OF Minnesota Twins
Max Kepler is headed to the injured list. #MNTwins have recalled Matt Wallner.
— DanHayesMLB (@DanHayesMLB) April 8, 2023
After a week of uncertainty, Kepler officially gets the Injured List designation. Only time will tell if his patellar tendinitis can be healed within the minimum ten-day timeframe.
Joey Gallo – 1B/OF Minnesota Twins
No official update yet on Joey Gallo, but #MNTwins seemed pleased on where he’s at after he had an MRI on Friday.
— DanHayesMLB (@DanHayesMLB) April 8, 2023
Not the biggest update, but it’s all we have to go on. We’ll see if anything comes of this on Sunday, but for now, he’ll likely remain out of the lineup.
Harrison Bader – OF New York Yankees
Aaron Boone's hope is that Harrison Bader can get into some rehab games in the next week to 10 days. #Yankees
— Gary Phillips (@GaryHPhillips) April 8, 2023
Bader has been out all year with an oblique strain, so the rehab assignment will have to be a lengthy one. It’s not looking promising that he will return before the month of May.
Jonathan Loaisiga – RP New York Yankees
Jonathan Loáisiga won't throw for a few weeks, per Aaron Boone. He's got some swelling in his joint and received an injection, but all is sound structurally. #Yankees
— Gary Phillips (@GaryHPhillips) April 8, 2023
Essentially shut down for up to a month, there is fear of a significant injury here. Stay tuned.
Josh Donaldson – 3B New York Yankees
Josh Donaldson was at Yankee Stadium today and has been hitting and throwing. Aaron Boone believes Donaldson can return in the minimum 10 days.
— Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) April 8, 2023
The good news is that it doesn’t seem like a serious injury at all. Still, with it being Donaldson, one never knows.
Paul Blackburn – SP Oakland Athletics
Paul Blackburn came away from his outing with Stockton last night feeling healthy. Next step for him will be a rehab outing with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, expected to go 3 innings and/or 45 pitches.
— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) April 8, 2023
Blackburn continues to feel better and better after his finger avulsion. He’s looking to return as soon as possible.
Joey Bart – C San Franciso Giants
#SFGiants roster moves: pic.twitter.com/sI8XPeCENu
— SFGiants (@SFGiants) April 8, 2023
The Giants will need the services of Bart as soon as possible, given the fact that Roberto Perez was placed on the 60-day Injured List. It’s looking like a minimum stay on the Injured List for Bart based on how quickly he’s recovering.
Jose Siri – OF Tampa Bay Rays
The #Rays have placed OF Jose Siri on the 10-day IL (right hamstring strain).
Vidal Brujan has been recalled from Triple-A Durham.— Neil Solondz (@neilsolondz) April 8, 2023
Deflating news for someone who came into the year with such promise. The hope is that he can return in ten days, but with hamstrings, you never know.
