MLB Injury Report for April 14
Orlando Arcia – SS Atlanta Braves
#Braves Injury Updates: pic.twitter.com/7AjYsbbT9R
— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) April 13, 2023
There is some speculation that Vaughn Grissom will take over at shortstop for the Braves. He was left off of Gwinnett’s Triple-A lineup last night, and people within the industry believe it’s due to this. He will be a must-add if this is the case. As for Arcia, the microfracture will need time to heal, and surgery is not necessary. There is no timetable for him to return.
Anthony Santander – OF Baltimore Orioles
Brandon Hyde said Anthony Santander’s back is much better. Hitting today. Should be available. Wasn’t last night #orioles
— Roch Kubatko (@masnRoch) April 13, 2023
The fact that he was available off the bench is encouraging and shows he’s likely back as soon as possible.
Seiya Suzuki – OF Chicago Cubs
Suzuki has missed the entire season thus far but has looked good in his rehab assignment. A return this weekend is great news to fantasy owners everywhere. Stay tuned for the official word.
Jesse Winker – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Jesse Winker, sidelined by an illness in recent days, is back around the team but not in the lineup tonight. https://t.co/ePFieTYtPl
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) April 13, 2023
The illness continues, but he is at least back with the team. The hope is that he’ll play at some point this week.
Kenta Maeda – SP Minnesota Twins
Louie Varland will start tomorrow for the Twins. Tyler Mahle will be pushed back a day and the Twins will skip Kenta Maeda’s start.
— Betsy Helfand (@betsyhelfand) April 14, 2023
Maeda has had a quick exit, a disastrous start, and now this. Definitely not the way he or the team envisioned it going. Arm fatigue has been the culprit as Maeda works back from Tommy John surgery. More updates should be made available, but it would seem that the team is about as worried as fantasy managers should be.
Max Kepler – OF Minnesota Twins
Max Kepler is on target to return to the lineup this weekend. He's on the 10-day IL retroactive to April 5. Could be active as soon as Saturday. #MNTwins
— DanHayesMLB (@DanHayesMLB) April 13, 2023
Great news. Be prepared.
Kyle Farmer – SS Minnesota Twins
Roster move is official. Kyle Garlick up from St. Paul to take Farmer’s roster spot, Gilberto Celestino moved to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man.
— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) April 13, 2023
Here’s hoping that he’s able to make a speedy recovery.
DJ LeMahieu – INF New York Yankees
Aaron Boone said DJ LeMahieu is an option off the bench tonight.
— Chris Kirschner (@ChrisKirschner) April 13, 2023
He did not play, but he was ultimately ready to do so. Given that, he should return shortly.
Joe Musgrove – SP San Diego Padres
Joe Musgrove discusses his rehab process: “I feel great. Unfortunate couple days setback, but it healed up quick.” pic.twitter.com/Am7SwRTy8w
— 97.3 The Fan (@973TheFanSD) April 13, 2023
Straight from the source himself, Musgrove feels good, despite the setback. The plan is for him to throw a bullpen today and then, if all goes well, pitch a rehab outing. This delays his return but makes certain that he’s ready for the long haul.
Paul DeJong – SS St. Louis Cardinals
— Paul DeJong is going to have a somewhat extended rehab with Memphis. Marmol said since he essentially didn’t have a spring training they want to give him a run of game action before they’re forced into any decisions.
— Jeff Jones (@jmjones) April 13, 2023
DeJong worked hard in the offseason on retooling his swing and his mechanics. The team wants to ensure that all of that effort doesn’t go to waste. In the meantime, Tommy Edman and Brendan Donovan get reps at shortstop. Seeing how everyone works themselves into the lineup once he returns will be interesting.
Adam Wainwright – SP St. Louis Cardinals
Adam Wainwright set to face live batters tomorrow. Plan is for Lars Nootbaar to be one of the batters facing Waino. #STLCards
— Lynn Worthy (@LWorthySports) April 13, 2023
Wainwright has been slowly returning from the injury that he sustained at the WBC, and this could be one of the final stages. He and the team would like to have him back by the end of April.
Lars Nootbar – OF St. Louis Cardinals
— Lars Nootbaar will play for Springfield tonight and be back at Busch tomorrow to take live ABs vs. Wainwright. He’s a candidate to be activated (and able to play the field) as soon as Saturday.
— Jeff Jones (@jmjones) April 13, 2023
Nootbar could be back this weekend. Be prepared.
Jeffrey Springs – SP Tampa Bay Rays
.@RaysBaseball lefty Jeffrey Springs addresses the media to give an update about his injury status and how he is feeling after leaving Thursday's game early. #RaysUp pic.twitter.com/JyL4eJGwi2
— Bally Sports Sun: Rays (@BallyRays) April 13, 2023
Springs left his start yesterday with tingling in his forearm, around where the funny bone is. He has been diagnosed with ulnar neuritis, which is something that I was admittedly unfamiliar with. Essentially it is when the ligaments providing stability to the elbow have been compromised. There will be tests and imaging done to see the severity of the situation, which ranges from inflammation and fluid to a more substantial injury. What it boils down to is that he will likely miss time on the Injury List, but it’s not necessarily season-ending. More updates will be brought forth today. Stay tuned.
Matt Chapman – 3B Toronto Blue Jays
#BlueJays hope Matt Chapman can play tomorrow per manager John Schneider
— Ben Nicholson-Smith (@bnicholsonsmith) April 14, 2023
Chapman missed time due to an illness, but he’s hopeful of returning.
