Travis d’Arnaud – C Atlanta Braves
D'Arnaud is on the trip, and taking regular batting practice with team. No timetable for return, but #Braves wanted to have him with team, since he can work with the trainers and also take part in all the pregame meetings with pitchers and other catchers, etc.
— David O'Brien (@DOBrienATL) April 28, 2023
While d’Arnaud will likely need a rehab assignment, the fact that he is traveling with the team is encouraging. There’s been no set date for a return, however, meaning that he’s not likely to play anytime soon.
Garrett Whitlock – SP Boston Red Sox
Bello will pitch in Whitlock’s place tomorrow. Cora said they’re hopeful Whitlock only misses two starts.
— Jen McCaffrey (@jcmccaffrey) April 28, 2023
While that estimation is encouraging, Whitlock will undergo more tests to eliminate the possibility of a more serious issue. Two weeks from now would be the best-case scenario, but anything longer can’t yet be ruled out.
Randal Grichuk – OF Colorado Rockies
Randal Grichuk is in Denver with the #Rockies. He’s healthy and ready to be activated, but no word yet on when that will be
— Danielle Allentuck (@d_allentuck) April 28, 2023
It’s looking like he will be activated at some point this weekend. Be warned, though, as he was 3-33 in his minor-league rehab, and could struggle out of the gate with the Rockies too.
German Marquez – SP Colorado Rockies
Márquez said he’s starting to worry that he’ll need Tommy John surgery. He’ll get another MRI and a second opinion on Monday https://t.co/DB76YSs4Es
— Danielle Allentuck (@d_allentuck) April 28, 2023
With or without Tommy John surgery, Marquez will miss significant time with inflammation in his right elbow. It’s looking like a 60-day Injury List designation is in the works, regardless of what the diagnosis is. He will be re-evaluated on Monday to get the official word.
Kerry Carpenter – OF Detroit Tigers
Kerry Carpenter left the game after jamming his right shoulder on a diving catch. No concrete postgame update:
A.J. Hinch: "He's going to get a scan and get it looked at and get it read by the doctors. We'll see how sore he is and what the diagnosis is."
— Evan Woodbery (@evanwoodbery) April 28, 2023
Carpenter made a terrific catch against the wall, taking away a home run from Ryan Mountcastle. There has been no word yet on the severity of the situation. Stay tuned.
Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros
Yordan Alvarez is doing better, Dusty Baker said. Alvarez is currently participating in pregame stuff with the team. Baker wouldn’t say if Alvarez is available off the bench tonight, claiming that the Phillies may be listening.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) April 28, 2023
This is much improved from earlier in the week when he wasn’t doing anything. Alvarez has missed four games with neck issues, but this development suggests that he might not need a trip to the Injured List.
Michael Brantley – OF Houston Astros
Michael Brantley played the third game of his minor-league rehab assignment with Class AAA Sugar Land yesterday. Dusty Baker said the Astros don’t have an AB or innings threshold they want Brantley to reach before he can join them. “We kind of leave that up to Mike a little bit.”
— Danielle Lerner (@danielle_lerner) April 28, 2023
It’s looking like Brantley will be back when he informs the team that he feels at 100%. He is 2/11 during this rehab assignment, and one would assume that he’ll need more at-bats before returning.
Chas McCormick – OF Houston Astros
Chas McCormick said his back and his vision are both completely fine. He will play at least two rehab games with Corpus Christi this weekend to regain his feel and rhythm.
The lesson here: Be careful while deadlifting. https://t.co/Ptj83QuXC0
— Danielle Lerner (@danielle_lerner) April 28, 2023
It looks as if McCormick is ready to go and just wants to regain his timing. It turns out that he injured himself while working out and not on a baseball-related issue. He should be ready to go for next week’s games.
JD Martinez – UT Los Angeles Dodgers
J.D. Martinez is on the injured list with lower back tightness, retroactive to Tuesday
— Eric Stephen (@ericstephen) April 29, 2023
The injury isn’t considered to be serious despite the fact that it warranted a stay on the Injured List. The team has enough options and versatility to get through this in the hopes that it’s a minimal stay.
Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers
Brewers injury updates:
• Brandon Woodruff had a follow up MRI on Wednesday and they’ll move forward building him up but TBD on timeline.
• Gus Varland pitched yesterday with Timber Rattlers and will do a multi-inning appearance tomorrow.— Sophia Minnaert (@SophiaMinnaert) April 28, 2023
That seems like great news, as the follow-up MRI brought about encouraging results for Woodruff. Look for a more detailed timeline to be established in the coming days, but he may be back sooner than we originally expected. That said, he is still expected to be out of action for quite some time. For what it’s worth, he was throwing merchandise to fans at a recent Milwaukee Bucks game…..with his left arm.
Jhoan Duran – RP Minnesota Twins
The vague nature of when he will return leads one to speculate a multi-day absence. While Duran could be back at any time, fantasy owners need to prepare for him being gone for the rest of the weekend.
Tyler Mahle – SP Minnesota Twins
Tyler Mahle did not undergo imaging yesterday and met with Dr. Chris Camp, the team physician. They're calling it an impingement to the back of his elbow.
TBD on if it'll impact his next start. They'll get him on anti-inflammatories and see how it responds over 48-72 hours.
— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) April 28, 2023
This has the potential to be a scary situation. The next few days will be crucial here to see how Mahle’s arm responds. His velocity was down a significant amount in his last start, so a trip to the Injured List shouldn’t be ruled out.
Kenta Maeda – SP Minnesota Twins
Triceps strain for Kenta Maeda. Shut down for 3-7 days til symptoms resolve. #MNTwins
Paparesta: "There's nothing that we've found that has any issues to do w/ his previous Tommy John ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery. So we treat it just like a muscle strain."
— DanHayesMLB (@DanHayesMLB) April 28, 2023
The good news here is that his injury is non-Tommy John related, so a muscle strain mending is what’s needed. All that being said, he’s struggled to remain healthy all season, so the team would be wise to take things slowly.
Alex Kirilloff – 1B Minnesota Twins
Today is a big milestone for Alex Kirilloff, who will play the full nine innings on consecutive days for the first time in St. Paul.
Paparesta says with this, they've done what they've needed to do from a medical standpoint, and it just becomes a baseball decision soon.
— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) April 28, 2023
The fantastic news here is that he’s up to nine innings of play. Kirilloff might be the next man up should an injury arise.
Justin Verlander – SP New York Mets
Justin Verlander's final line in his rehab start for Double-A Binghamton: 4 2/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 69 pitches.
He's due to make his Mets debut next week in Detroit.
— Tim Healey (@timbhealey) April 28, 2023
Be prepared.
Tyler O’Neill – OF St. Louis Cardinals
Tyler O'Neill scratched with tightness in his back. #stlcards
— Derrick Goold (@dgoold) April 29, 2023
Consider O’Neill DTD until otherwise noted.
Andres Munoz – RP Seattle Mariners
Dylan Moore didn’t feel great in his rehab start on Tue., is going to back off the games for now. Will see the doc to see where he is with the oblique.
Better news on Munoz, will be sent out with the Rainiers when the M’s hit the road to throw a live BP then games.— Shannon Drayer (@shannondrayer) April 21, 2023
Munoz is eligible to come off the Injured List tomorrow, but it’s looking like the team is targeting a mid-week return. Stay tuned.
Pete Fairbanks – RP Tampa Bay Rays
Correction on Pete Fairbanks. He can still grip the ball, but it’s the feeling in his fingers that’s an issue with the syndrome. He is going to explore ways to combat it.
Will he pitch the rest of this weekend? “I’m going to try and figure out a way, he said. “If they’ve got to…
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) April 29, 2023
The issue with Raynaud’s syndrome seems to be the biggest culprit for this ailment. The game last night had temperatures in the high 40’s and low 50’s. The team may keep him out of action until they find a way to deal with this sort of situation.
Yandy Diaz – INF Tampa Bay Rays

— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) April 22, 2023
Diaz is considered DTD but will undergo testing today to ensure the severity of the situation. He was supposed to have today off anyway, according to manager Cash.
Jacob deGrom – SP Texas Rangers
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Jacob deGrom left with forearm tightness.
They’ll continue evaluating tomorrow.
— kennedi landry (@kennlandry) April 29, 2023
deGrom exited the game after surrendering one hit in 3.2 innings of play. His final two pitches were the slowest of each kind that was thrown in the game. In fact, his fastball was 2.2 mph slower and his slider was 2.7 mph slower than any and all pitches thrown. He will undergo testing today to figure out the severity of the situation, but a trip to the Injured List cannot be out of the question.
