MLB Injury Report
Corbin Carroll – OF Arizona Diamondbacks

— Bally Sports Arizona (@BALLYSPORTSAZ) April 30, 2023
It is being labeled as a contusion. While Carroll was in a lot of pain after this, and rightfully so, he was able to walk off the field independently. He is not scheduled for an MRI or imaging, and the team said that they dodged a bullet. Consider him DTD.
Brandon Hughes – RP Chicago Cubs, Jameson Taillon – SP Chicago Cubs
Cubs updates:
• RHP Caleb Kilian recalled from @IowaCubs.
• LHP Brandon Hughes to 15-day IL (retro to Thursday) with left knee inflammation.
• RHP Jameson Taillon throwing bullpen session today— Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) April 29, 2023
Uh oh. This is the same injury that cost Hughes the start of the season. With the ailment returning, he could be out for much longer to help ensure that it goes away. He was a candidate for saves and save opportunities, but now must worry about getting himself healthy. As for Taillon, this is a step in the right direction which should lead to a rehab assignment at some point. There is no timetable for his return just yet.
Andrew Benintendi – OF Chicago White Sox
Pedro Grifol said Andrew Benintendi wasn't feeling well after getting with an elbow last night, prompting a lineup change, but also said X-rays were negative and that he could possibly play tomorrow.
— James Fegan (@JRFegan) April 29, 2023
For clarification, Fegan said in a second tweet that Benintendi got hit “in” the elbow and not “with” one. That said, he is DTD and could return later today against the Rays.
Kerry Carpenter – OF Detroit Tigers
(1/2) The Tigers have made the following roster moves:
*Placed OF Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 28, with a right shoulder sprain.
*Named UTIL Zack Short as the 27th man for today’s doubleheader— Tigers PR (@DetroitTigersPR) April 29, 2023
Carpenter injured himself by taking away a home run from Ryan Mountcastle on Friday. He will miss at least ten days because of it, but you can’t get upset at the hustle.
Chas McCormick – OF Houston Astros, Michael Brantley – OF Houston Astros
Some updates from Dusty Baker:
◼️ McCormick may need 6-7 rehab games in the Minor Leagues.
◼️ Brantley may play some 1B while on rehab, but expect him to play some 1B when he returns.
◼️ Looks like both could return around May 8, prior to the series in Anaheim.— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) April 29, 2023
This looks to be a little more extensive than we first thought, but at least the end is in sight. McCormick has played in one game thus far, so he’s likely a week away from returning. As for Brantley, gaining first-base eligibility would be an intriguing development for fantasy. There’s no word on if that will happen when he’s back with the Astros. That said, he needs to get his bat right first, as he’s scuffling so far in his rehab assignment.
Logan O’Hoppe – C Los Angeles Angels
The #Angels have made the following transactions:
Selected the contract of RHP Chris Devenski (#49)
Placed LHP José Quijada (left elbow inflammation) on 15-day injured list
Transferred C Logan O’Hoppe to 60-day injured list
— Angels PR (@LAAngelsPR) April 29, 2023
While it’s possible that we see O’Hoppe back in September, the likelihood is that his 2023 season is over.
Kyle Farmer – INF Minnesota Twins
Twins are looking at getting Kyle Farmer out on a rehab assignment next week when the team heads out on the road trip, Rocco says.
— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) April 29, 2023
That would be a fantastic development, after getting hit in the mouth and needing emergency dental surgery. If he’s back at the beginning of May, it would be less than a month since the incident.
Aaron Judge – OF New York Yankees
Judge has a mild strain at the top of his hip, Boone said. Yankees will wait a couple of days to see if he continues to improve and if he can avoid an IL stint. They hope to make a decision by Monday.
— JackCurryYES (@JackCurryYES) April 29, 2023
The team will make a decision on Judge by Monday, so fantasy owners should expect news before lineups lock. That said, it seems likely that fantasy owners might need to be without Judge for the foreseeable future, given the nature of what Boone said and how he said it. He will need to improve from his current state in order to avoid that Injury List designation.
Brandon Crawford – SS San Francisco Giants
Giants say Brandon Crawford left the game with right calf tightness.
— Alex Pavlovic (@PavlovicNBCS) April 30, 2023
Consider Crawford DTD unless otherwise told.
Andres Munoz – Seattle Mariners
Mariners GM Justin Hollander said that Andres Munoz is still in Arizona, finishing up his throwing program. He threw two days ago. And could head out on a rehab assignment "fairly soon."
M's front office is urging caution with Munoz since he's max effort in how he throws.
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) April 29, 2023
The team is being extra cautious with Munoz, who they value a lot for their bullpen. He was supposed to be on a rehab assignment, but that has since been delayed. The fact that he will embark on that assignment fairly soon is a good sign.
Julio Rodriguez – OF Seattle Mariners
Here's the play where Julio Rodríguez hurt his lower back this afternoon — the slide into second base for his sixth stolen base.
"He felt it after that," Scott Servais said. "Like I said, I don't think it's that serious, but we'll see how he feels." pic.twitter.com/vMYWxOtjph
— Daniel Kramer (@DKramer_) April 29, 2023
The good news is that the team doesn’t seem to think it’s a serious injury. With the team having a day off tomorrow, a day off for Rodriguez is the likeliest of scenarios.
Tyler Glasnow – SP Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Tyler Glasnow (oblique) threw a 2-inning live BP session at the Trop today and Kevin Cash said the report from Rick Knapp was "very encouraging". Next step is a 3-inning outing at Durham, likely within the next week. Mid-May is still the target for Glasnow's return.
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) April 29, 2023
Glasnow is progressing nicely here and seems on track to return in mid-May, as projected. That said, he will likely need a rehab assignment to help ramp himself up since he’s been out for quite a while.
Jacob deGrom – SP Texas Rangers
Texas right-hander Jacob deGrom is headed to the 15-day injured list with what the Rangers termed “right elbow inflammation.” He left his start Friday with forearm tightness and should be reevaluated in the coming days.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) April 29, 2023
deGrom came into Saturday feeling okay, but the team will be extra cautious with him. Since his history is littered with injuries, the Rangers want to be as careful as they can with their ace. They’re going to see how he feels over the next few days and develop a plan from there. The good news is that there is no structural damage in the elbow, so rest is what’s needed most. The guess would be that he is gone for more than fifteen days, but that he can return shortly afterward. Stay tuned though, as nothing is set in stone.
