MLB Prospects Injury Report
Blaze Alexander – SS Arizona Diamondbacks
Alexander had started the year off right with a .458/.618/.792 slash line and hitting the ball for a ton of extra bases. He will be out for at least six weeks but is still a candidate to get the call later this season at shortstop. Alexander is the team’s 9th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Daniel Espino – P Cleveland Guardians
Daniel Espino started to experience some setbacks with his shoulder. He’s been shut down and is planning to visit with a doctor.
— Mandy Bell (@MandyBell02) April 23, 2023
Espino was already on the 60-day Injured List, and this is yet another setback for the once-promising arm. His inability to remain healthy and to actually pitch may drop him in rankings as the year goes on. Espino is baseball’s 14th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Jackson Jobe – P Detroit Tigers
#Tigers minor league medical update: Pitching prospect Jackson Jobe (lumbar spine inflammation) is in long-toss phase of his throwing program. Fellow pitching prospect Dylan Smith has a right forearm strain. pic.twitter.com/gUvacgLrBJ
— Evan Petzold (@EvanPetzold) April 27, 2023
Jobe has slowly made his progression toward being able to throw from longer distances. He is going to be carefully and meticulously brought along, as he is expected to miss at least half of the season. As an aside, the quoted tweet does provide a ton of useful information on a ton of other prospects within the Tigers’ system. Jobe is baseball’s 56th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Sixto Sanchez – P Miami Marlins

— Fish on the Farm (@marlinsminors) April 22, 2023
Sanchez continues to slowly ramp his arm back up. Two days after this video clip was released, he threw two innings of an extended BP (34 pitches), though there was no word on how that went velocity-wise. Essentially for him, it’s all about how his body responds, considering the extensive injury history and the loss of body weight. Sanchez is the team’s 11th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Max Meyer – P Miami Marlins
#Marlins Injury Report:
-JT Chargois still not throwing.
-Johnny Cueto bullpen tomorrow in Jupiter, 35 pitches.
-Avisail Garcia will be reevaluated today.
-Max Meyer 90 feet
-Steven Okert will throw back to back days in Jacksonville.
-Sixto felt good after extended spring game,…— Noah Berger🧩🚂 (@Trainboy100) April 17, 2023
Meyer has upgraded his throwing distance to 90 feet, but most pitchers will need to grow toward 120 feet before anything else. Until that happens, he will remain on a flat-ground throwing regimen. He is not slated to pitch at all this season. Meyer is baseball’s 60th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Sal Frelick – OF Milwaukee Brewers
From the Brewers: OF Sal Frelick underwent successful UCL repair surgery on his left thumb today and is expected to return in 6-8 weeks.
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) April 25, 2023
Frelick was considered the top option to replace the injured Garrett Mitchell in the outfield. Unfortunately for him, he will be out for up to two months and will need to prove his worth in Triple-A upon his return. That said, if he’s able to play the way most expect, he could be up with the Brewers anytime after the All-Star Break. Frelick is baseball’s 27th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Royce Lewis – SS Minnesota Twins
Royce Lewis is now playing in some Florida Complex League games, focusing on both shortstop and third base. Head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta said they’re looking to get him into a full rehab assignment in May.
— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) April 28, 2023
What an interesting turn of events that is for Lewis, who will be focusing on third base. That could be a sneaky help to those in need in leagues in about a month’s time. Keep that in your back pocket come mid-May FAAB. Lewis is baseball’s 39th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Connor Prielipp – P Minnesota Twins
Derek Falvey discussed Connor Prielipp yesterday. #MNTwins put him on 7-day IL with general soreness. They’re very pleased with his stuff post TJ and won’t rush him. pic.twitter.com/GtsiopMM7b
— DanHayesMLB (@DanHayesMLB) April 18, 2023
There’s a lot to like here with Prielipp, and the Twins obviously feel the same way. The last thing that they want to do is rush someone that has the potential to be huge. Prielipp is the team’s 5th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Andrew Painter – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Painter's throwing program has progressed to daily catch from 90 feet in Clearwater. Still a ways to go before they turn him loose, but so far, no issues with the elbow.https://t.co/wZuy4DoY5v
— Scott Lauber (@ScottLauber) April 27, 2023
Great news with Painter, as the team is taking things at a very slow pace. They don’t want to rush their prized prospect and risk further damage. He still needs to advance to mound work before a rehab assignment can even be considered. Painter is baseball’s 4-th ranked prospect, according to MLB.
Tink Hence – P St. Louis Cardinals
The team placed Hence on the 7-day Injured List to give him some additional rest. They were encouraged by the initial observation as well, so this was perhaps not as serious as it sounds. Hence is baseball’s 69th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
