Alex Verdugo – OF Boston Red Sox
That’s good news for Verdugo, as there was some fear that he would miss time. He should be considered DTD with the possibility of it being even better than that.
Aaron Civale – SP Cleveland Guardians
Aaron Civale sharp tonight in first rehab start @CLBClippers
3.0IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4SO
— GuardsInsider (@GuardsInsider) May 19, 2023
This was Civale’s first rehab appearance, and he was outstanding. The only drawback here was his limited pitch count, but that will rise in time.
Jared Walsh – 1B Los Angeles Angels
Nevin said Walsh wanted to play back to back games at 1B, so that would be Thursday and Friday. After Friday’s game they’ll decide if he’s ready. https://t.co/nAvYsXAcGB
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) May 18, 2023
Walsh has been doing quite well in his rehab, hitting .500 with a lot of walks. The problem is the sample size is quite small (six games) so the team may want to see more consistent healthy playing before giving him a shot. Then again, this could be all that they’ve wanted to see, so be prepared.
Dustin May – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers recalled RHP Andre Jackson and LHP Justin Bruihl, designated RHP Dylan Covey for assignment and placed RHP Dustin May on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain.
— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) May 18, 2023
The team made it official here and gave him the PRP injection to hopefully avoid surgery. That said, he will be gone for more than the minimum of fifteen days.
Francisco Alvarez – C New York Mets
Marte absent from the lineup today. McNeil in RF. Alvarez is “dinged up” so Perez behind the plate. No Vientos. Baty at third base.
— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) May 18, 2023
It’s unclear as to whether or not this is anything serious, but the team gave him a day off. Without specifics, it’s hard to pinpoint what’s happening here. For now, consider him DTD but likely to play this weekend.
Starling Marte – OF New York Mets
Starling Marte will be out of the lineup this afternoon after being hit by a pitch in the hand last night pic.twitter.com/BlWgpjAcP0
— SNY (@SNYtv) May 18, 2023
Marte got himself the night off because of his sore hand after getting hit by a pitch. It doesn’t appear to be anything serious, but he may need another day or so before returning.
Josh Donaldson – 3B New York Yankees
Josh Donaldson hurt his thumb while “putting something together with his daughter” recently, so his hamstring rehab timeline was delayed just a bit, per Aaron Boone.
He wasn’t able to hit for a few days after the minor thumb injury. He doesn’t need any tests on it.
— Max Goodman (@MaxTGoodman) May 18, 2023
This mishap will delay his return for a bit, but luckily there is nothing overly serious happening here.
Seth Lugo – SP San Diego Padres
Seth Lugo (calf) placed on 15-day IL.
— Underdog MLB (@Underdog__MLB) May 18, 2023
Lugo injured himself during his last start and will require time away to heal. This doesn’t appear to be a serious injury, so fifteen days should do it.
Andres Munoz – RP Seattle Mariners
Dipoto gives update on Munoz. Is in a throwing program and should know in the next 2 days if he can progress to the mound to start working toward a rehab assignment. All has gone well since the PRP shot but the #Mariners are being very deliberate in the steps that have followed.
— Shannon Drayer (@shannondrayer) May 18, 2023
That’s good news for Munoz, as he has been trying to return from a shoulder injury and a subsequent setback about a month ago. The PRP injection seems to be working, and he will test its strength when he progresses to the mound. The team is likely to take things slowly with him.
Tommy Edman – 2B St. Louis Cardinals
Tommy Edman left the game experiencing lower abdomen soreness, according to #stlcards.#Cardinals #MLB
— Derrick Goold (@dgoold) May 19, 2023
It’s unclear how serious an issue this is, but he was forced to leave the game. For now, consider him DTD in order to heal up properly.
Tyler O’Neill – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards manager Oli Marmol said that LF Tyler O'Neill (back strain) is scheduled to meet with the team's doctors later today about his lingering discomfort.
O'Neill, who has been out since May 5, was scheduled to go out on an MiLB rehab assignment today, but it was scratched.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) May 18, 2023
There’s no word yet on how those meetings went, but the crux of it was to get a better sense of where he is physically and how to help. There should be more updates today with a better grasp of a timeline for him.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – 1B Toronto Blue Jays
Vladimir Guerrero Jr (knee) took some swings in Blue Jays batting cages today; he also did some running earlier. TBD if he’ll be available to pinch-hit tonight or not.
— Arden Zwelling (@ArdenZwelling) May 18, 2023
It turns out that he did pinch-hit, so all looks to be well for the Jays with regard to Guerrero.
