MLB Injury Report for May 22

Ramon Urias – INF Baltimore Orioles

This is the first real baseball activity that Urias has done since being placed on the Injured List. His potential rehab assignment this upcoming week indicates that he’s close to a return. It’s unclear if it will be a lengthy rehab.

Enmanuel Valdez – 2B Boston Red Sox

The team did not say for what reasons Valdez left yesterday’s game. Stay tuned.

Garrett Whitlock – SP Boston Red Sox

Be prepared, as he just fired off almost five scoreless innings in his last rehab start. He’s also been tinkering with his changeup, which was his most dominant pitch when he broke out in 2021.

Joey Votto – 1B Cincinnati Reds

The Reds have been taking things slowly with Votto, ever since his rushed return in the spring. Look for whatever rehab he makes to be lengthy as the team will want to make this right.

Mike Clevinger – SP Chicago White Sox

The severity of the issue is unknown, but he’ll require at least twelve days to ensure that it gets right. He was seen wearing a splint yesterday, hence the designation.

Lance McCullers Jr. – SP Houston Astros

This ETA should hopefully help people gauge when and how to stash McCullers on their Injured List. He still has another six to seven weeks before his estimated return.

Byron Buxton – OF/UT Minnesota Twins

Everyone’s fingers should be crossed that Baldelli is correct. Buxton has a long track record of injuries all over his body. Even the smallest of ailments have cost him time. The team will likely give him whatever time he needs to get ready and be as close to 100% as possible.

Seth Brown – 1B/OF Oakland Athletics

It will be interesting to see first, the diagnosis, and then secondly who he replaces on the roster. Either way, this is great news for fantasy owners needing a boost. Stay tuned and see exactly when he is back.

Ken Waldichuk – SP Oakland Athletics

He has since said that he feels better and could make his next start. That said, don’t be surprised if it’s pushed back a day or two or if they skip it altogether to ensure that he’s 100% healthy.

Darick Hall – 1B Philadelphia Phillies

While live pitching is a major hurdle to achieve first, it’s good to see him getting close to returning. How he fits into the picture with Bryce Harper back remains to be seen, but he could see close to everyday at-bats by alternating turns at first base and DH.

Vince Velasquez – SP Pittsburgh Pirates

Velasquez went 63 pitches over 4.2 innings pitched and didn’t give up a run. He’s close to being ready, and one has to wonder what that means for Luis Ortiz.

Logan Webb – SP San Francisco Giants

There was initially supposed to be no imaging or MRI’s involved with Webb, but with lingering pain, he may get some done after all. Stay tuned.

Cal Raleigh – C Seattle Mariners

It’s unclear if an Injured List trip will be necessary, but he’s now missed two games in a row. That said, he did come in as a pinch hitter yesterday, so he could be closer to returning than leaving.

Tyler Glasnow – SP Tampa Bay Rays

He’s all but ready to return. Be prepared.

Jacob deGrom – SP Texas Rangers

It will be at least another week before deGrom gets activated, but even then, that’s incredibly optimistic. He will likely need to pitch to live hitters for a while. He said that he turned a corner, but who knows what that corner even looks like if it’s possible for live hitters this week. He still has a long way to go before returning.
