Ramon Urias – INF Baltimore Orioles
Ramón Urías will begin a rehab assignment at High-A Aberdeen on Wednesday. https://t.co/cTQ8nRcf9m pic.twitter.com/WNwkFSfMXP
— Orioles on MASN (@masnOrioles) May 23, 2023
Urias ran the bases on Sunday and was fine afterward. This most likely won’t be a long-term assignment.
Cody Bellinger – OF Chicago Cubs
Bellinger has yet to resume baseball activities and is resting his ailing knee. Until he gets back to it, don’t expect a sudden return from him just yet. While he is eligible to return this weekend, it looks like more than ten days will be required.
Eloy Jimenez – OF Chicago White Sox
Correction: Jiménez is joining up with Double-A Birmingham https://t.co/denRH1DbuF
— James Fegan (@JRFegan) May 23, 2023
The correction here is that Fegan originally stated that Jimenez would be evaluated before heading to Birmingham. This corrects that stating that he will be re-evaluated after three to four days there. Ultimately, it’s that evaluation that will determine when he returns. Stay tuned.
Luis Robert – OF Chicago White Sox
Luis Robert Jr. left the game with right hip tightness. He is day-to-day.
— Chicago White Sox (@whitesox) May 24, 2023
Robert injured himself while trying to field a ball late in the game. He should be considered DTD while the team determines the best course of action going forward.
Elvis Andrus – 2B Chicago White Sox
Grifol said Jiménez will spend 3-4 days in Charlotte before they evaluate if he’s ready.
Elvis Andrus will need a rehab assignment and it probably won’t be until next week.
Yes, Jake Burger is taking ground balls at second base. Grifol sounded open to it on an occasional basis
— James Fegan (@JRFegan) May 23, 2023
Andrus has been out of action since May 13, and with a rehab assignment coming next week, he’s likely two weeks from returning, at minimum.
Tarik Skubal – SP Detroit Tigers
Tarik Skubal threw another bullpen session today in KC. He’ll throw a live BP session later this week, according to Tigers medical report.
— Jason Beck (@beckjason) May 23, 2023
Skubal’s live BP would be the first live pitching he’s seen. If this happens, he’ll be that much closer to a rehab assignment. He’ll likely return in July.
Jose Altuve – 2B Houston Astros
Jose Altuve was “feeling sick” and removed from the game as a precaution, Dusty Baker said.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) May 24, 2023
Nothing physical here, just feeling under the weather. Consider Altuve DTD until he gets his health straightened out.
Dustin May – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers have selected contract of RHP Bobby Miller and placed RHP Tyler Cyr on the injured list with shoulder impingement, retroactive to May 21.
In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred RHP Dustin May to the 60-day injured list.
— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) May 23, 2023
This was done to allow Bobby Miller onto the 40-man roster. Also, May will be sidelined for a while.
Carlos Correa – SS Minnesota Twins
Carlos Correa had an MRI on his bruised left heel, said it showed inflammation. He’s unlikely to play in Wednesday’s finale. With team off Thursday, he’s hopeful for the weekend. #MNTwins
— DanHayesMLB (@DanHayesMLB) May 24, 2023
This is somewhat worrisome. The inflammation there makes it hard to determine whether or not he’ll need some time on the Injured List. Stay tuned.
Kenta Maeda – SP Minnesota Twins
The thought here is if Kenta Maeda is throwing 88 in a bullpen that includes zero intensity, it should lead him to be above 90 mph when he's pitching in a game. He was encouraged by today's session as he should. #MNTwins
— DanHayesMLB (@DanHayesMLB) May 23, 2023
Maeda’s bullpen was encouraging for the reason stated above. While that’s pure speculation on their part, it would seem like actually seeing the velocity jump instead of projecting it would be a better idea. All that said, he’s getting closer to a rehab assignment, but will need more bullpen sessions first.
Trevor Larnach – OF Minnesota Twins
#MNTwins placed OF Trevor Larnach on the injured list with pneumonia and called up OF Matt Wallner from Triple-A St. Paul.
That explains why Larnach wasn't used as a pinch-hitter last night.
Wallner hit .270/.388/.477 in 31 games for the Saints.
— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) May 23, 2023
Larnach is eligible to return on June 1, but it’s unclear if he’ll be better by then.
Carlos Rodon – SP New York Yankees
Carlos Rodón said he hopes to throw off the mound soon. Still no indication of when he may actually start a rehab assignment. But it’ll likely be some time.
— Chris Kirschner (@ChrisKirschner) May 23, 2023
The good news is that his arm and back seems to have fully healed. He has shown no indication that they are hurting since the PRP injection. Great news.
Josh Donaldson – 3B New York Yankees
Josh Donaldson's rehab assignment is imminent and Boone says he will likely be an everyday starter upon his return, per @ChrisKirschner pic.twitter.com/EVsfahfUgx
— Talkin' Yanks (@TalkinYanks) May 23, 2023
There’s no word yet on how long the rehab assignment will be. Yankees fans everywhere must be elated that Donaldson will play every day upon his return.
Brandon Marsh – OF Philadelphia Phillies
Brandon Marsh scratched from #Phillies' lineup with right shoulder inflammation. The team characterized his status as "day to day." Dalton Guthrie will play center field.
— Scott Lauber (@ScottLauber) May 23, 2023
Marsh should be considered DTD until it’s otherwise noted.
Manny Machado – 3B San Diego Padres
Manny Machado took swings from the tee today. Manager Bob Melvin said he’s not sure when Machado will be ready off the IL. Friday would be the earliest.
— Britt Ghiroli (@Britt_Ghiroli) May 23, 2023
Machado being able to grip a bat and take swings today was a good first step forward. Hitting a ball while doing so would be the next logical step for him.
Joc Pederson – OF San Francisco Giants
Joc Pederson is still not gripping the bat at full strength. Some chance he could join the team on this trip but sounds as if homestand more likely.
— Susan Slusser (@susanslusser) May 23, 2023
The swelling on Pederson’s hand hasn’t allowed him to fully grip a bat. Until that subsides, there’s no chance of an imminent return.
Ty France – 1B Seattle Mariners
Initial X-rays on Ty France’s left wrist came back negative, but Scott Servais said there is a contusion and a lot of swelling in the area, putting doubt on the first baseman being in tomorrow’s lineup. As for a possible IL stint, the Mariners will assess it day to day.
— Daniel Kramer (@DKramer_) May 24, 2023
France had been relatively healthy this year, so this ailment comes with a bit of disappointment. It remains to be seen if he’ll go on the Injured List, but it’s apparently not out of the question. His status remains DTD until otherwise noted.
Dylan Carlson – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards manager Oli Marmol said CF Dylan Carlson (left ankle sprain) will start swinging a bat “in a couple of days.” Carlson is not with the team in Cincinnati & is doing his ankle rehab in STL.
Carlson is eligible to come off the 10-day IL on Thursday, but that isn’t likely.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) May 23, 2023
Carlson is slowly coming around with this injury, but the team isn’t too worried. With a return possible on Thursday, it’s unlikely that happens given the fact that he won’t even swing a bat by then.
Tyler O’Neill – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards manager Oli Marmol said Tyler O’Neill’s planned restart of baseball activities on Monday was canceled again because of lingering pain in his low back. There is no timetable for when he will be able to restart a return, Marmol said.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) May 23, 2023
O’Neill’s time away is starting to become concerning, as he isn’t healing as quickly as everyone would have hoped.
Brandon Lowe – 2B Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Cash said B. Lowe was to be in the lineup but he woke up with a stiff neck and was scratched. Could be available off the bench but they’d rather stay away from him
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) May 23, 2023
The issue isn’t supposed to be major and Lowe is considered DTD as a result.
Jacob deGrom – SP Texas Rangers
With another session lined up for Friday, it will be interesting to see how deGrom feels while incorporating breaking balls into his repertoire. If his body feels great afterward, they can probably accelerate his momentum toward a return.
Mitch Garver – UT/C Texas Rangers
Garver is attempting to return after a lengthy absence. The fact that he is catching indicates the plan for him to do so when up with Texas.
Victor Robles – OF Washington Nationals
Some injury updates…
* Victor Robles: No significant improvement yet
* Sean Doolittle: Pitching back-to-back days in FL for 1st time, throwing 88-92 mph
* Israel Pineda: Ready to begin rehab at Wilmington
* Cole Henry: Strong rehab at Fredericksburg, bumped up to Wilmington— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) May 23, 2023
Obviously, this isn’t a good sign for Robles, as he’s been out of action for two weeks. The team may need to take some imaging to determine if surgery should be an option.
