MLB Injury Report
Christian Arroyo – INF Boston Red Sox
Christian Arroyo started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in his rehab start with the WooSox today.
— SoxProspects.com (@SoxProspects) May 28, 2023
Arroyo has now played in two rehab games, but this was his first on the field. He will likely need more time before returning but is on his way back.
Liam Hendriks – RP Chicago White Sox
White Sox to reinstate closer Liam Hendriks https://t.co/q67HvR4ztg
— Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan) May 28, 2023
Words can’t describe how incredible and unprecedented this is. Congratulations to Hendriks on quite a return.
Aaron Civale – SP Cleveland Guardians
#Guardians RHP Aaron Civale final rehab start with Columbus. Looked good early with three shutout innings. Struggled and was hit hard 4th & 5th innings. Topped out at 92.7 mph. Threw cutter the most topped out 89.3 mph.
Line – 4.2(IP) 6H 4R 4ER 3BB 7SO (88 Pitches 54 Strikes)
— Guardians Prospective (@CleGuardPro) May 28, 2023
Be prepared as Civale will be back within the week.
Matt Moore – RP Los Angeles Angels
#Angels Transactions:
•Selected the contract of RHP Ben Joyce (#44)
•Placed LHP Matt Moore (right oblique strain) on 15-day injured list (retro to May 25)
•Transferred RHP Austin Warren to 60-day injured list
— Angels PR (@LAAngelsPR) May 28, 2023
Keep an eye on Ben Joyce, who has future closer material. He has command issues to deal with first, but his 100+ mph fastball is enticing. As for Moore, his injury is a Grade 2 strain, which will make his absence somewhat lengthy.
Max Muncy – INF Los Angeles Dodgers
Max Muncy will undergo an MRI on his left hamstring. Muncy said he changed how he was running when he tagged up from third base. #Dodgers
— David Vassegh (@THEREAL_DV) May 28, 2023
Muncy injured himself while running and today’s MRI will reveal the extent of his injury. He himself said that this is the second game in a row where he cramped up, and the team made the decision to sub him out.
Julio Urias – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
#Dodgers Julio Urias went thru a full workout and threw on flat ground. But he did not throw off the bullpen mound as expected
— Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) May 27, 2023
While Urias did go through a full workout (minus the BP), this is still considered a setback. There was no indication of why this delay happened, so stay tuned.
Jesse Winker – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Jesse Winker (neck discomfort) drops out of today's lineup in favor of Darin Ruf. https://t.co/0eWhuBHw3x
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) May 28, 2023
Winker was a late scratch, and the reason was neck spasms. It’s unclear if this will be a lingering issue, as neck pains can be, so we’ll see when he returns. The irony is that Winker himself has been a pain in the neck to fantasy owners everywhere with his abysmal performance thus far.
Owen Miller – INF Milwaukee Brewers
Counsell said the pitch that hit Owen Miller got all muscle. X-rays came up negative.
"Just day to day and hopefully after a day (off) he's good to go."
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) May 28, 2023
Miller has filled in admirably for the Brewers, so the hope is that his absence is a short one. It’s good to hear that the x-rays came up negative, so his DTD status should mean he’s back later this week.
Royce Lewis – 3B Minnesota Twins, Max Kepler – OF Minnesota Twins
#MNTwins will activate Royce Lewis and Max Kepler from the injured list for Monday’s game.
Kyle Garlick and Matt Wallner will be optioned to Triple-A to make room on the roster.
— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) May 28, 2023
Reinforcements for an ailing Twins team will arrive later today. This is great news for both players for their own reasons. Lewis coming back from his second ACL tear is remarkable, while Kepler needs to stay healthy. It’s a great day for the fans of Minnesota.
Jeff McNeil – 2B New York Mets
Jeff McNeil felt tightness in his groin last night, Buck Showalter said. That’s why he’s out of the lineup today.
— Tim Healey (@timbhealey) May 28, 2023
Consider McNeil DTD until we find out more before the Mets’ next game on Tuesday.
New York Yankees – Team Update
Giancarlo Stanton could begin rehab assignment Tuesday, not ruled out yet for Dodgers series next weekend per Boone.
Jose Trevino will accompany Yankees to Seattle, in play to be activated Tuesday.
Josh Donaldson could get another rehab game Tuesday before he’s ready to return.— Pete Caldera (@pcaldera) May 28, 2023
It’s looking like all of Stanton, Trevino, and Donaldson will be activated within the next seven days. It will be interesting to see how they fit in the team’s current lineup and who gets sent down.
Alec Bohm – 1B/3B Philadelphia Phillies
Alec Bohm isn’t in the lineup tonight because of hamstring tightness. He is available tonight, however, if needed. Rob Thomson expects Bohm back in the lineup Tuesday.
— Todd Zolecki (@ToddZolecki) May 28, 2023
This looks like a short stay out of the lineup for Bohm.
Carlos Santana – 1B Pittsburgh Pirates
Per Pirates, 1B Carlos Santana was removed from the game with lumbar spine muscular tightness and is being examined and treated.
Connor Joe moved from LF to 1B to replace Santana, but the Pirates are thin at the position w/ Ji-Man Choi (Achilles strain) on 60-day IL until 6/13.— Kevin Gorman (@KevinGormanPGH) May 28, 2023
For a 37-year-old man, this might take a while from which to return. He and the team may not want to rush things here. Time will tell if a trip to the Injured List is warranted.
Vince Velasquez – SP/RP Pittsburgh Pirates
Pirates GM Ben Cherington on @937theFan talking Vince Velasquez: "He felt something that was similar to what he felt in Tampa. We need some more information. We’re going to spend some time with Vince. We’re gonna get another image and more opinions."
— Jason Mackey (@JMackeyPG) May 28, 2023
This has the makings of something disastrous. It’s the same injury that reoccurred almost immediately getting reinstated. Due to the fact that we’re just about into June, this could be the last that we see from Velasquez this season. Look for Roansy Contreras to be reinstated into the rotation.
Juan Soto – OF San Diego Padres
Soto’s back tightened pregame today in the batting cage. Sounds like he lobbied to start, but the Padres didn’t want to take any chances. He’s expected back in the lineup after tomorrow’s off-day.
— AJ Cassavell (@AJCassavell) May 28, 2023
From the sounds of it, Soto should be fine, especially after a day off today. We’ll know more as we get closer to their next game, but for now, consider him DTD.
Pete Fairbanks – RP Tampa Bay Rays
Fairbanks hip “locked up,” on him. He is getting treatment. Not sure I’d it will be an IL. #Rays
— Kristie Ackert (@ByKristieAckert) May 28, 2023
It’s never a good sign if a player/team is unsure about a trip to the Injured List. We’ll know more soon, but the guess would be that he misses at least fifteen days in order to recover.
