Cedric Mullins – OF Baltimore Orioles
Mike Elias said Cedric Mullins’ groin strain is a grade 2 strain, but he didn’t want to place a definite timetable. He said it can be measured in weeks rather than months, and that they’ll work to get him back as soon as possible
— Andy Kostka (@afkostka) May 30, 2023
The categorized Grade 2 strain means that it is a moderate injury. The timeline of weeks, not months, is a key one here, in that the team doesn’t foresee this being too long-term of an issue. Still, it’s not out of the question that we don’t see Mullins back until after the All-Star Break, but that feels like a worst-case scenario.
Corey Kluber – SP/RP Boston Red Sox
Sherriff is here because Corey Kluber just welcomed a baby and is going on the paternity leave list. Congrats to Corey and his family. https://t.co/odNJguAiWV
— Mac Cerullo (@MacCerullo) May 30, 2023
Congratulations to the Kluber family.
Cody Bellinger – OF Chicago Cubs
Cody Bellinger (knee) is scheduled to do cage work and throw today.
— Meghan Montemurro (@M_Montemurro) May 30, 2023
First, it was the drill work, and now some cage work. He has yet to run and do agility workouts, which will be his biggest hurdle. Still, he’s slowly coming around and is improving daily, which is all good news to hear.
Mike Clevinger – SP Chicago White Sox
It was previously reported that Clevinger could be activated before the team’s next homestand. That he threw a simulated game on Monday is a good sign for that claim. It’s also interesting to note that he is throwing the gyro slider too while recovering.
Eduardo Rodriguez – SP Detroit Tigers
(1/2) The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:
*Placed LHP Eduardo Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list (left index finger pulley rupture), retroactive to May 29
*Placed OF Matt Vierling on the 10-day injured list (low back soreness), retroactive to May 29— Tigers PR (@DetroitTigersPR) May 30, 2023
This is quite unfortunate for two reasons. First, Rodriguez had been pitching at an elite level, this messes with any positive momentum he had going forward. Second, the type of injury he sustained is serious and could require months of time away. According to this article, he will need significant time to let it heal properly, which requires a ton of rest and minimal movement. It’s estimated that he will need months for the finger to feel normal again, and that time includes rest and recovery. In short, this could be a season-ending injury for him but is likely something that keeps him out through some of, if not most of, the summer.
Riley Greene – OF Detroit Tigers
Riley Greene felt the discomfort in the first inning. Fought to stay in the game, but Hinch didn't like how we went after the fly ball in the third inning and pulled. They took tests. No results yet. Marisnick was coming up tomorrow regardless.
— Chris McCosky (@cmccosky) May 31, 2023
This is bad news with the potential to be much worse. We will know more today if and when the test results come through. Until then, consider Greene DTD.
Tarik Skubal – SP Detroit Tigers
Next step for Tarik Skubal, barring any setback off today, is to start a rehab assignment. He would probably make four or five starts before the Tigers' contemplate reinstating him.
— Chris McCosky (@cmccosky) May 30, 2023
It’s fantastic news here, as Skubal’s quest to return is nearing the final stages.
Jose Urquidy – SP Houston Astros
Dusty Baker said Urquidy is throwing at 90 feet
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) May 30, 2023
Slow but steady progress for Urquidy. That said, he has a long way to go before pitching in a game again.
Julio Urias – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Dave Roberts said Julio Urías threw 15 pitches in a "touch and feel" bullpen session today.
"I think the plan is on Saturday he'll throw on the mound, and then probably two or three days after that, he'll do a simulated, three-inning situation," Roberts added.
— Matthew Moreno (@Matthew__Moreno) May 30, 2023
Despite this slow process and recent setback, the Dodgers don’t anticipate Urias needing a rehab assignment before being reinstated. They think that he’ll be able to pitch against the Phillies in an upcoming series. Time will tell if that’s the case.
Miami Marlins – Team Update
#Marlins injury updates:
-Bender to 120 feet
-Jazz to be re evaluated today
-Cueto 40 pitch bullpen today
-Nance rehabbing in Jupiter
-Meyer to 135 feet
-Rogers tonight 4 innings with Single A Jupiter
-Sixto 20 pitch bullpen today
-Puk rehab assignment with Double A Pensacola— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) May 30, 2023
A lot to unpack here. We should know more about Chisholm Jr. after today’s evaluation. The only news we know is that he wanted to return in early June. As for Cueto, his recent setbacks have led to extended time away, but this is a good sign that he is throwing again. Rogers did throw four innings, and looked solid in the process, throwing a one-hit, seven-strikeout masterpiece. Finally, Puk struck out the side in his lone inning of relief in that Double-A rehab assignment. Both Rogers and Puk will need more appearances before returning.
Willy Adames – SS Milwaukee Brewers
Willy Adames worked out today in Milwaukee for the first time since suffering a concussion.
"He and Jesse stayed home. So they're going to just work out," Counsell said. "That's the plan. But he's got to pass some tests."
— Todd Rosiak (@Todd_Rosiak) May 30, 2023
This is great to read and the hope that those workouts intensify. Adames can return within a week.
Luis Urias – INF Milwaukee Brewers
Craig Counsell says Luis Urias will likely return to the Brewers at the start of the next homestand.
He was eligible to return from the IL today.
"We'd like him to play more," Counsell said. "But by the end of this trip he'll have a good (base) and a solid week of playing."
— Todd Rosiak (@Todd_Rosiak) May 30, 2023
Be prepared.
Jesse Winker – OF Milwaukee Brewers
OF Jesse Winker placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 28, with a cervical strain.

— Milwaukee Brewers (@Brewers) May 30, 2023
Winker will miss at least ten days with his injury, though the term strain indicates that it could be longer than that. Stay tuned.
Kenta Maeda – SP Minnesota Twins, Caleb Thielbar – RP Minnesota Twins
Kenta Maeda and Caleb Thielbar made their first rehab appearances for Triple-A St. Paul.
Maeda threw two scoreless, hitless innings, with four strikeouts. Fastball averaged 90 mph.
Thielbar threw one scoreless inning, with one strikeout and one hit. Fastball averaged 91 mph.
— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) May 30, 2023
Both pitchers had effective innings that relayed some encouragement going forward. Maeda will likely need many more outings in order to be able to return, whereas Thielbar could be back in the Twins’ bullpen any day.
Harrison Bader – OF New York Yankees
Harrison Bader’s hamstring strain is “low grade,” and he’ll be out at least “a couple of week,” Aaron Boone said.
— Bryan Hoch ⚾️ (@BryanHoch) May 31, 2023
It’s just another injury for Bader who has struggled to stay healthy since being traded to New York. He will miss at least two weeks with this injury.
Anthony Rizzo – 1B New York Yankees
Anthony Rizzo is feeling better. Said he could contribute tonight if needed, but thinks it's best to play things safe w/ his neck. Indicated possible Friday return.
Asked if he was checked for a concussion, he jokingly said "I don't remember" but said his head is fine. #Yankees
— Gary Phillips (@GaryHPhillips) May 30, 2023
It’s looking like Rizzo will avoid the Injured List. That said, his return likely won’t happen until the weekend, with Friday being a possibility.
Josh Donaldson – 3B New York Yankees
Josh Donaldson just said the Yankees’ plan is for him to play at Somerset tonight and join the team for the Dodgers series.
— Brendan Kuty 🧟♂️ (@BrendanKutyNJ) May 30, 2023
Be prepared.
Jose Alvarrado – RP Philadelphia Phillies
José Alvarado will throw to hitters tomorrow afternoon at Citi Field. Could go on a minor-league assignment after. Things looking good there.
— Matt Gelb (@MattGelb) May 30, 2023
This could be the last hurdle before heading out for a rehab assignment. We’ll know more about his status following the scheduled session later today.
Manny Machado – 3B San Diego Padres, Seth Lugo – SP San Diego Padres
Couple injury updates:
-Full workout and a pretty extensive round of BP for Manny Machado (left hand fracture) today. Still likelier he returns on the homestand than this week in Miami.
-Seth Lugo (right calf strain) threw a bullpen and has begun a running progression.
— AJ Cassavell (@AJCassavell) May 30, 2023
That’s a very positive update for Machado, as he was able to not only hit the ball but sustain the grip while doing so. That’s encouraging for a return very soon too. As for Lugo, things have been quite quiet as of late, but this is a step in the right direction. There’s been no word of when a rehab assignment will begin.
Michael Conforto – OF San Francisco Giants
Michael Conforto bruised his left heel on that awkward play at first, is day to day.
— Alex Pavlovic (@PavlovicNBCS) May 31, 2023
We should know more about his status later today. Consider him DTD unless otherwise told.
Pete Fairbanks – RP Tampa Bay Rays
Good report on Pete Fairbanks:
No structural damage. Going to get an injection in this hip. Probably a no throw for a week. See how he responds.
Cash said “We feel fortunate he’s in a good spot.”
— Tricia Whitaker (@TriciaWhitaker) May 30, 2023
Some positive news here, as there should be no long-term damage. The hope is that with the injection, his healing will speed up and he can return sooner than later. That said, the team would be wise to take things slowly and carefully with Fairbanks, considering they have a solid option in Jason Adam. More will be known in the upcoming days, but the overall feeling here is a positive one.
Jacob deGrom – SP Texas Rangers
Jacob deGrom will throw his next bullpen tomorrow, then the Rangers will sit down and evaluate situation when they return home from road trip.
— Evan Grant (@Evan_P_Grant) May 30, 2023
Some things of note here. First, he has yet to throw more than 31 pitches in any bullpen, so his workload isn’t quite up to standard. Second, the team’s final road game is today before a homestand starts on Friday, so we won’t know more about deGrom’s status until then. All that being said, he’s still likely weeks away from returning, if that.
Mitch Garver – C Texas Rangers
Barring any setbacks, Garver should be back within a week.
Brandon Belt – 1B Toronto Blue Jays
Brandon Belt was removed in the 8th as he was “not feeling great in the stomach.”
“So figured it was a good time to not let him run around and have anything bad happen” Schneider said
The #BlueJays stomach bug strikes again
— Mitch Bannon (@MitchBannon) May 31, 2023
This shouldn’t be a long-term issue for Belt and he could be back within days.
