Seiya Suzuki – OF Chicago Cubs
Not much clarity from Seiya Suzuki about whatever is ailing him. He didn’t want to disclose it.
Suzuki says it’s not serious and his goal is to be back in the Cubs lineup Tuesday.
Ross says Suzuki is “dealing with some soreness in some areas” and isn’t 100%.
— Meghan Montemurro (@M_Montemurro) June 11, 2023
While we don’t know much more than we did, this at least gives us hope that Suzuki will be back tomorrow. Stay tuned.
Liam Hendriks – RP Chicago White Sox
Rick Hahn said Liam Hendriks’ injury initially presents as similar to his flexor strain last season, but he’s getting an MRI and too soon to label it as such this time. But Hendriks missed less than a month last season, and the Sox hope he can return similarly this year.
— James Fegan (@JRFegan) June 11, 2023
Hendriks’ body has gone through a lot over the past year. Now he has to go through something similar to a flexor strain which could cost him some significant time this summer. While the speculation is based on last year’s timeline, nothing is set in stone and nobody knows just yet what he’s facing. The fact is that he may have rushed through his quest to return and that, alongside a faster pitch clock, may have made his body shut down the way that it did. Either way, more will be known by tomorrow.
Andres Gimenez – INF Cleveland Guardians
Andrés Giménez left the game because of tightness in his leg, and Terry Francona says overall he's okay and could be back in the lineup on Tuesday. #ForTheLand pic.twitter.com/4SHj6LpbZo
— Bally Sports Cleveland (@BallySportsCLE) June 11, 2023
Gimenez left the game with leg tightness, which is being deemed precautionary. As Francona said here, he needs to come to the stadium on Tuesday and be ready to go. If he is, he’ll be back, so this is on Gimenez to let everyone know how he is. This doesn’t seem to be a serious injury, but anything could happen.
Elias Diaz – C Colorado Rockies
#Rockies catcher Elias Diaz leaves the game after getting hit in the facemask by a foul tip. Austin Wynns replaces him.#Padres leading 3-2 in the 8th.
— Patrick Saunders (@psaundersdp) June 10, 2023
There is some speculation that Diaz will go on the 7-day Concussion Injured List because of this. The club has already called up catcher Brian Severn, but that was done with other moves.
Charlie Blackmon – OF Colorado Rockies
Blackmon will miss significant time with a broken hand. Apparently, it’s been hurting for about a week now and getting worse by the day. He was able to somehow get a hit in each game of the series versus the Giants but left Saturday’s game.
Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros
Speaking on the team's pregame radio show on @SportsTalk790, Astros general manager Dana Brown said the timeline for Yordan Alvarez's return "is still up in the air a little bit" but “it will take a week at least to get a feel for how long it’s going to be.”
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) June 11, 2023
This is essentially the team shutting down Alvarez and re-assessing. Oblique injuries are very tricky to overcome and they’re different for everyone. This is their way of getting a better handle on the situation to see how he feels after about a week of being minimalized in his activity. There should be more updates later this week.
Julio Urias – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
#Dodgers Dave Roberts said he expects Julio Urias to throw one, maybe two bullpen sessions during the homestand starting Tuesday. Rehab assignment will follow at some point.
— Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) June 11, 2023
Urias was originally slated to be activated yesterday. Instead, he will need one or two more bullpen sessions and then head out for a rehab assignment. This likely means that he will need at least one more week before returning, with the possibility that he needs two.
Trevor Rogers – SP Miami Marlins
Marlins SP Trevor Rogers didn’t start yesterday for Jacksonville with a right shoulder (non throwing) issue. If medical results are ok today, he could start early next week in AAA. TBD.
— Craig Mish (@CraigMish) June 11, 2023
As of this writing, those results have yet to be revealed. Once they are, a better sense of where Rogers is and will be can be used to figure out when he’ll return.
Carlos Rodon – SP New York Yankees
Aaron Boone said Carlos Rodón will throw another live BP on Thursday. They’ll see where he’s at after that to determine when his rehab assignment may begin.
— Chris Kirschner (@ChrisKirschner) June 11, 2023
Rodon is trending upward and this was a good indication of that. It will be interesting to see the pitch count that he works with when he does throw again before heading out for a rehab assignment. Keep in mind that he hasn’t pitched all year, so rehab will undoubtedly be a long one.
Blake Snell – SP San Diego Padres
Postgame clarifications:
Snell’s ankle swelled up after taking that line drive in the seventh. He says he’s fine, X-rays negative, but that’s why he was lifted.
Melvin opted against Martinez after all the pitches he’d thrown past two days and the fact he’d gotten hot pre-delay.
— AJ Cassavell (@AJCassavell) June 11, 2023
The clarification makes things more straightforward here, as Snell seems to be fine going forward. The move sounds precautionary. It will be interesting to see if he misses anytime, but it would seem like that won’t happen.
Alex Wood – SP San Francisco Giants
The #SFGiants, who are using a bullpen game for the second day in a row, could get one starter back soon. Alex Wood (back) is throwing a rehab outing in the neighborhood of 50 pitches today in Sacramento and could be an option in LA when he’s eligible.
— Evan Webeck (@EvanWebeck) June 11, 2023
Keep an eye on this as more updates will be made available as we get closer to that date.
Ross Stripling – SP San Francisco Giants
Ross Stripling (back) threw a 30-35 pitch bullpen today. He’ll spend the road trip in Arizona, where he is scheduled to face live hitters for the first time Tuesday.
— Evan Webeck (@EvanWebeck) June 11, 2023
Stripling has been out of action for about a month now, and he just received a cortisone shot to help speed things up. It seems to be working as Stripling has progressed quite well in his recovery. His scheduled session for live hitters is the next big step forward.
Tyler O’Neill – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards OF Tyler O’Neill said he sees “light at the end of the tunnel” with his back injury.
TO: “I'm on doctor's orders in terms of a core program & what that timetable looks like. Hopefully later this week, we can get into baseball activities & can ramp up from there.”
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) June 11, 2023
O’Neill has been on the shelf for quite a while and the team and him were at a standstill as to how to get things to improve. He is supposed to be re-evaluated this Thursday to see if he can resume baseball activities. His body is responding well to core-strengthening activities as well as the two injections that he received.
Brandon Belt – 1B Toronto Blue Jays
Brandon Belt’s MRI just showed inflammation in his hamstring, no structural damage. Remains DTD, Schneider said.#BlueJays
— Mitch Bannon (@MitchBannon) June 11, 2023
Consider Belt to be DTD until we hear of any setbacks.
