MLB Injury Report

Sean Murphy – C Atlanta Braves

It sounds like Murphy is close to a return and that the Injury List can be avoided. There will undoubtedly be follow-up news regarding this as we get closer to the opening pitch.

Corey Kluber – SP/RP Boston Red Sox

Kluber will need at least fifteen days from which to return. Some believed he would take over for the injured Houck in the rotation, but now that’s off the table.

Dansby Swanson – SS Chicago Cubs

The Cubs did give Swanson the day off, and he will now get those two days to rest. Time will tell, but it is expected that he will be back on Friday.

Garrett Crochet – RP Chicago White Sox

Crochet recently went on the Injured List with shoulder inflammation and will miss approximately two-to-three weeks of action while he recovers.

Yasmani Grandal – C Chicago White Sox

Consider Grandal DTD and likely to return on Friday.

Yoan Moncada – 3B Chicago White Sox

Recurring injuries can be tough to examine since teams and players always want to get to the root of the problem and solve it. In the case of Moncada, the team would be wise to be extra cautious with him, since his back injuries just don’t seem to want to go away. The timeline is quite vague here, so he’s likely at least another week away from returning.

Will Brennan – OF Cleveland Guardians

Brennan made a spectacular catch in the outfield but hurt himself in the process. There were no updates after the game, so for now consider him DTD.

Jose Urquidy – SP Houston Astros

Urquidy is slowly getting better as he aims to return at some point in July. He will need to ramp things up toward live hitters before a lengthy rehab assignment.

Logan O’Hoppe – C Los Angeles Angels

It may not seem like much, but it is a big step forward. O’Hoppe has always indicated that he wants to return before the end of the season. This is a good first step toward achieving that goal.

Gio Urshela – INF Los Angeles Angels

While it’s good news that he won’t require surgery, it’s unfortunate in that he will miss the rest of the season. Urshela should be ready for the start of next season, barring any setbacks.

Kenta Maeda – SP Minnesota Twins

Be prepared.

Willie Calhoun – OF New York Yankees

Uh oh, hearing anything pop isn’t close to ideal. We’ll know more today after he gets his MRI, but it’s not looking good at all.

Carlos Rodon – SP New York Yankees

So far, so good for Rodon, as his feeling good after his first start is encouraging. We’ll see if that holds true after this start.

Andrew McCutchen – OF Pittsburgh Pirates

The hope here is that McCutchen getting an extra day off will be enough for him to feel better.

Oneil Cruz – SS Pittsburgh Pirates

Cruz is slowly getting himself back into game shape. The team is being careful with their prized possession which is a big part of their future. Rushing into anything could risk future injury.

Mike Yastrzemski – OF San Francsico Giants

The discouraging part of this injury is that it is a recurring injury to the same hamstring that resulted in missed time in May. Consider Yastrzemski DTD until we hear anything else.

Wilmer Flores – INF San Francsico Giants

Be prepared.

Lamonte Wade – OF San Francisco Giants

It would appear that the MRI Wade had was good enough to warrant his potential availability today.

Jordan Walker – OF St. Louis Cardinals

It would appear that this isn’t a big worry at all and that Walker will return when he’s healthy enough to do so.

Bo Bichette – SS Toronto Blue Jays

Bichette owners everywhere can exhale and relax. It looks like his injury is a minor one.

Victor Robles – OF Washington Nationals

Robles had just returned from a multi-week absence because of his back, and now he may miss even more because of a recurring ailment. It’s concerning that he is once again injured in the same spot, and we could see something even more serious here. Stay tuned.
