The 2022-23 NBA season may barely be done and next season may still be over three months away, but with the NBA draft now in the rearview mirror, I’m itching to get right back into it. This means it’s already time to start looking ahead to the fantasy basketball season as well, with rankings, mock draft, and plenty of sleepers and busts to go around. Today, let’s take a look at some early fantasy basketball dynasty rankings because everybody knows that if you are in a dynasty fantasy basketball league, the season never really stops.
So let’s dive in and look at some early rankings, keeping in mind that unlike in typical fantasy leagues, age plays a huge part in determining which players jump to the top of the board.
Dynasty Rankings Notes and Highlights
Nikola Jokić is the number one player in my fantasy basketball dynasty rankings. Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you’re in a dynasty league, a redraft league, or any other uniquely formatted league. He shows up every day and dominates the opposition, and it absolutely shows in the box score at the end of the night. If you want to make an argument for a different player at two, be my guest, but Jokić at one is mandatory.
As I said above, age is critical here. Despite father time knocking on the door, LeBron James is probably still a top-20 player in the NBA. But not here. In dynasty leagues, the 38-year-old doesn’t even crack the top 50 in my rankings, and he only serves any purpose at all for your roster if you are a team that is all-in on a championship in the next year or two.
There are a lot of players who slipped down my board a bit due to their issues off the court. Guys like Ja Morant and Zion Williamson are both in my top 10 with ease if they weren’t in the situations they currently find themselves. There are other cases similar to this, but these two are prime examples.
Finally, ranking rookies is always a ridiculously difficult task. Yeah, we all have our opinions about who will be Hall of Fame players, who will be busts and out of the league in 3 years, and everything in between, but we won’t truly be able to gauge this until we see some sort of NBA sample. So if you really like or dislike a certain rookie, go with your gut.
