Fantrax Injury Report: July 1, 2023 – Carroll to Return?

Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Saturday, July 1, 2023. Inside, you’ll see the latest development for Max Fried in his quest to return. The Yankees have a mixed bag of updates, but it looks like we could see Nestor Cortes back sooner than expected. Jeremy Pena’s injury is nothing to sleep on, and Michael Conforto may not get a shot to play in New York this weekend. This, alongside all MLB updates, in today’s Injury Report.

Corbin Carroll – OF Arizona Diamondbacks, Merrill Kelly – SP Arizona Diamondbacks

Carroll missed last night’s game, but there’s been no indication that he will be placed on the Injured List just yet. As for Kelly, it looks like he is progressing well in his quest to return shortly.

Max Fried – SP Atlanta Braves

As mentioned here, this was a big step forward for Fried and his recovery. While it all depends on how he feels afterward, it looks like he could have a rehab assignment soon. Stay tuned.

Ryan Mountcastle – 1B Baltimore Orioles

There will be at least one more day of Mountcastle in his rehab assignment. He could be back any day after that.

Seiya Suzuki – OF Chicago Cubs

Suzuki has missed a handful of games because of a neck injury. Apparently, the BP went well, and there’s a good chance he’ll test out that neck again doing the same thing. He should be considered DTD with the possibility of returning soon.

Nick Lodolo – SP Cincinnati Reds, Ben Lively – SP Cincinnati Reds

Lodolo will have his walking boot removed this week, which should mean a focus on strengthening his leg will be a priority. This, alongside a good MRI earlier in the week, gives hope of him returning next month. As for Lively, the Reds can use him back, so this is definitely good news.

Charlie Blackmon – OF Colorado Rockies

Once that cast is removed, he’ll need to get back into game shape, possibly with a rehab assignment. The original return-to-action timeline of mid-July seems out of the question now.

Detroit Tigers – Team Update

A lot to unpack here. This will be Faedo’s first rehab start since going on the Injured List. He is likely to have other starts, but this will be a big first step forward. Baddoo, as mentioned here yesterday, is closer to a return than Greene. Skubal is set to return soon, so this BP isn’t seen as a step backward. Finally, Rodriguez has accelerated his comeback trail and could be back soon too.

Jeremy Pena – SS Houston Astros

Hopefully, Pena got a better night’s sleep last night and is ready to return.

Jose Urquidy – SP Houston Astros

Urquidy continues to recover well and is consistently getting better. He threw three bullpens this week and will likely try to make a rehab start soon. He is eligible to return on July 14, but there is no indication of that being a target date.

Brandon Drury – 3B Los Angeles Angels

There is no word on if this is severe, but for now, he is DTD with the ailment. He hurt himself diving for a ball the other night.

Zach Neto – SS Los Angeles Angels

There was no reason given as to why it was delayed, but the team doesn’t seem overly concerned. Consider this just a minor bump in the road.

Nestor Cortes – SP New York Yankees

Cortes has been blowing past the hurdles here with success. Since receiving the cortisone shot and PRP, he has been able to throw without any issues. Look for him to start a rehab outing within the next two weeks and be back later this month.

Anthony Rizzo – 1B New York Yankees

Look for Rizzo to be back for one of the team’s games today.

Aaron Judge – OF New York Yankees

While this is good to see, Judge needs to get to the plate and practice swinging and rotating his foot while he swings a bat. Until that happens, he isn’t close to a rehab assignment.

Mason Miller – SP Oakland Athletics

Miller still has a long way to go before returning, and this was merely done to free up a roster spot.

Bryan Reynolds – OF Pittsburgh Pirates

Reynolds should be back soon. Be patient.

Ha-Seong Kim – INF San Diego Padres

Consider Kim DTD for now as he should be back soon.

Michael Conforto – OF New York Mets

Get Conforto out of your lineups if you can.

Bryce Miller – SP Seattle Mariners

It was obvious that Miller’s blister was getting to him, as his command was off. That said, it’s hopeful that he doesn’t miss a start and encouraging that he’s dealt with this previously. Stay tuned.

Brendan Donovan – INF St. Louis Cardinals

Donovan will likely serve as the team’s designated hitter if he’s in the lineup this weekend. That said, there’s a chance that he sits too.

Hyun-Jin Ryu – SP Toronto Blue Jays

All of this sounds like a tremendous comeback is on the horizon. That being said, his performance on the field in these rehabs will determine how good the story will be. Coming back from Tommy John Surgery, he is a shaky option at best in most formats.

Victor Robles – OF Washington Nationals

Robles’ second stint on the Injured List has resulted in a lot of inactivity. This is concerning.
