Drew Jones – OF Arizona Diamondbacks

Jones has suffered a shoulder strain, and a quad strain, and now will nurse a hamstring strain. That’s three injuries within less than a full calendar year since signing the largest signing bonus by a high-school player. He will look to get back onto the field later this month and try to salvage what’s left of this season to assist in his growth and development. Nonetheless, it’s been a disappointing start to his professional career. Jones is baseball’s fifteenth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Korey Lee – C Houston Astros

Korey Lee will be sidelined for the next little while, as he deals with a strain on his right oblique. This season, he has made improvements at the plate by lowering his strikeout rate, which is great. That said, his lack of power this season has been a proactive approach to not be so vulnerable to the breaking pitches that he’s seen. At the end of the day, he plays for a franchise that has already acknowledged Yainer Diaz as their catcher of the future, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Lee dealt before the trade deadline. In order to maximize the return, the Astros would want him back in full health. Lee is Houston’s fifth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Logan O’Hoppe – C Los Angeles Angels

O’Hoppe has just started to get back to baseball activities, and this is a big step forward. He is hitting every second day and will evolve to using a tee in about one week. This would allow him to make contact with a ball in order to test out his shoulder. He has been adamant about playing again this season, and a late August return seems doable, given where he’s at right now. If the Angels can somehow remain contenders for the playoffs, we could see him return on the earlier side of his timeline in order to help. If the team struggles and eliminates themselves, we could see him back later than this to ensure there are no long-term effects. O’Hoppe is baseball’s 31st-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Andy Pages – OF Los Angeles Dodgers

It’s a very disappointing end to his season, as Pages had just advanced to Triple-A Oklahoma City in an attempt to finish his development. He had himself a good season in which he showed patience at the plate and an ability to put the ball in play. Now, he will have to wait until next spring to show that he is ready for the big leagues, but will have to do so in the minor leagues. He is already on the 40-man roster, so he has that going for him, but he’ll still need to develop. Pages is Los Angeles’ sixth-0ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Sixto Sanchez – P Miami Marlins

Sanchez’s on-again-off-again routine is now back on. He just had an undisclosed setback last month in which he was shut down from throwing. Now, he is back to throwing from long distances but will need to work his way back to pitching from a mound. In June, he had evolved to throwing a twenty-pitch bullpen session. He should not be counted on for much of anything this season at the Major League level. Sanchez is Miami’s tenth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Max Meyer – P Miami Marlins

Meyer throwing a bullpen session is a great development for him. He has slowly been working his way back from Tommy John Surgery, and this was an important step forward. There has been no word, as of this writing, to indicate how the session went and how he feels. All we know for now, is that he threw it. He will need to do this again and again, but the frequency will depend on how his body feels. Meyer is baseball’s 52nd-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Andrew Painter – P Philadelphia Phillies

It’s been quite the week for Painter. On Tuesday, he threw a bullpen session that apparently went well. Two days later, there were reports that he was going to be shut down from throwing due to renewed discomfort in his elbow. This caused a lot of grief and panic, as he went to have some testing done to determine the damage. It was revealed afterward that there was no structural damage done to his elbow, and that he will be able to throw once all discomfort has dissipated. While that is good news for the long-term status of such a talented pitcher, the bad news is that we likely won’t see him in the Major Leagues at all this season. In fact, if the Phillies deem it necessary, look for them to trade for a pitcher rather than promote the young prodigy. Painter is baseball’s tenth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
