MLB Injury Report

Max Fried – SP Atlanta Braves

Fried had a tremendous outing here, as getting through three innings on only thirty pitches is amazing. He was so efficient that he actually threw a bullpen session after the third inning in order to get his pitch count up to where he wanted it to be. So far so good for him, though he’ll need to work himself up to a higher innings rate next start.

Eddie Rosario – OF Atlanta Braves

Rosario’s departure was deemed precautionary, but we should have more information later today before Atlanta’s next game.

A.J. Minter – RP Atlanta Braves

Minter left his last start a week ago with what was thought of as pectoral tightness. Now, he goes on the Injured List for shoulder inflammation. There’s no word on if this will be a minimum stay on the Injured List.

Cedric Mullins – OF Baltimore Orioles

We should know more about Mullins and his quad later today, but there’s a chance that he requires a trip to the Injured List. He is an important piece for the team as they push toward the playoffs, so perfect health is necessary here.

Trevor Story – 2B/SS Boston Red Sox

There was a shot that Story would have already begun his rehab assignment, but that would have been the best-case scenario. It turns out that those hopes were very optimistic. This isn’t a setback, yet, and we’ll know more once he’s re-evaluated.

Dansby Swanson – SS Chicago Cubs

From the sounds of it, Swanson should be ready to return soon….just not now. It doesn’t sound like a setback or anything bad, just a bit slower than expected. Either way, hang in there as he should be back soon.

Nick Lodolo – SP Cincinnati Reds

Now that Lodolo has had his boot removed, he should be able to start progressing toward pitching again. A mid-August return is what has been speculated on for a while.

Hunter Greene – SP Cincinnati Reds

Greene seems to be doing everything right, but it seems to be taking a long time. The team is being extra precautionary with him as he does workouts to prevent future injuries.

Shane Bieber – SP Cleveland Guardians

While this is a better outcome than what it could have been, it would seem like rest would be what’s best for Bieber right now. He is out indefinitely, but it could be September before we see him again.

Jeremy Pena – SS Houston Astros, Framber Valdez – SP Houston Astros

The hope here is that both will be ready to play without a trip to the Injured List. There should be more information later today before the team’s next game.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

Alvarez has been battling an illness, which delayed the start of his rehab assignment. There should be more news soon enough.

Brandon Drury – INF Los Angeles Angels, Logan O’Hoppe – C Los Angeles Angels

Both players have begun hitting off of a tee, which is great news for different reasons. Drury is aiming to return within the next week or so, but he’s admitted that he will be playing through pain and discomfort. As for O’Hoppe, he is slated to return in about one month, which is his best-case scenario.

Trevor Rogers – SP Miami Marlins

Rogers’ shoulder seems to be healing well enough for now, as his full range of motion looks to be back. This was a big hurdle for him, as he’s said that once he regains that motion with no pain, he’ll be able to start throwing again. Remember that this injury is on his non-throwing shoulder, so his pitching arm is fresh and healthy.

Edward Cabrera – SP Miami Marlins

A lot of news here for Cabrera, after a confusing few days before the All-Star break. He was scheduled to pitch in a rehab game, but a rainout canceled that for him, and he didn’t throw during the team’s double-header the next day. He did throw 62 pitches at the team’s Florida Complex League, which is good compensation for that missed start, and he looks ready to return this week.

Jorge Polanco – 2B Minnesota Twins

Fantastic news as we could see Polanco back within a week or so.

Jose Miranda – 3B Minnesota Twins

Miranda’s shoulder continues to give him problems, and he’ll need some time to hopefully get things right. Donovan Solano and Kyle Farmer should get opportunities to play in his absence.

Starling Marte – OF New York Mets

Marte should return in a day or two after getting some rest.

Josh Donaldson – 3B New York Yankees

Donaldson’s calf bothered him weeks ago, and it looks like the persistent problem is back. We should know more about this after his MRI, though the outlook isn’t that great.

Frankie Montas – SP New York Yankees

Montas’ recovery takes a bit of a speed bump here, but the hope is that he can return late in the season. We should know more about this injury after his follow-up examination this week.

Nestor Cortes – SP New York Yankees

Cortes has been trending upward for a while now, and this seems like a great step forward. He should need at least three rehab outings before returning.

Fernando Tatis – OF San Diego Padres

Tatis twisted his ankle last night. He seems destined to miss at least one game, merely for precautionary reasons, but the hope is that it won’t be more than that. The Padres have tomorrow off, so a two-day rest may be all that he needs.

Hyun-Jin Ryu – SP Toronto Blue Jays

Ryu continues to dazzle and turn back the clock here while he gets better. His fastball hit a maximum of 88.8 mph in the first inning and he threw a lot of his secondary pitches in the second inning before mixing both for the rest of his outing. He looks almost ready to return now, and he has apparently lost 30 pounds since his surgery. Keep his name in your back pocket for a stash if you can.
