Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Saturday, August 19, 2023. In today’s edition, Bo Bichette looks like he’ll be activated ahead of today’s game at Cincinnati. Also, it seems like Mike Trout might not be too far behind him as he could return to the Angels very soon, as per some reports. Finally, Rowdy Tellez looks to be back this weekend and could give the Brewers some muscle at first base. All this and much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report
Anthony Santander – OF Baltimore Orioles
Frazier goes to RF, Westburg to 2nd. Santander out of game https://t.co/B3WzYzlcK0
— Roch Kubatko (@masnRoch) August 19, 2023
There weren’t any updates after the game as to why this happened, so stay tuned for that.
Aaron Hicks – OF Baltimore Orioles
Aaron Hicks hoping he can avoid IL but knows days are running out. Back feels fine until he tries to hit. #orioles
— Roch Kubatko (@masnRoch) August 18, 2023
Hicks has played in just one game since July 25, and it’s looking like a second Injury List designation is on the horizon. His inability to swing and hit makes him quite unusable and a clogged-up roster spot at that.
Eloy Jiménez – OF Chicago White Sox
Prior to tonight’s series opener at Colorado, the #WhiteSox placed outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jiménez on the Paternity List and recalled infielder Lenyn Sosa from Class AAA Charlotte.
— Chicago White Sox (@whitesox) August 18, 2023
Jimenez has been battling through a groin injury and will now miss the weekend to welcome the birth of his child. The Jimenez family is wished the best.
José Abreu – 1B Houston Astros
José Abreu isn’t swinging a bat yet. Dusty Baker said it’s not realistic for him to be activated on Sunday, when he’s first eligible to return from the IL
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) August 18, 2023
The fact that Abreu has yet to swing a bat is concerning. It either shows how serious the injury really is or how much he’s fought through for a while. Either way, there’s a minimal chance that he’s activated this weekend. In fact, it may be September until we see him back and playing with the Astros.
Kyle Tucker – OF Houston Astros
Kyle Tucker came in feeling sick today and has been scratched from the lineup, per Dusty Baker. Astros will move Chas McCormick to right field and start Jake Meyers in center
— Danielle Lerner (@danielle_lerner) August 18, 2023
Consider Tucker DTD while he recovers from this illness.
Maikel Garcia – INF Kansas City Royals
Matt Duffy has replaced Maikel Garcia at 3rd base. Not sure if that upper body soreness he experienced recently returned or if it’s something else. Will update if we find out more
— Joel Goldberg (@goldbergkc) August 18, 2023
Garcia missed a game last weekend with upper body soreness and now missed some of last night’s game. There were no updates after the game, but today should provide us with clarity.
Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels
Mike Trout faced live pitching on the off day yesterday. Not ready today obviously but sounds like it still could happen any day now. #Angels
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) August 18, 2023
Interesting development here. There doesn’t look to be any consideration for a rehab assignment, so the team may activate him shortly. The Angles play a doubleheader today, so perhaps early next week?
Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels, C.J. Cron – 1B Los Angeles Angels
#Angels transactions:
•Selected the contract of INF Nolan Schanuel (#18)
•C Logan O’Hoppe returned from rehab and reinstated from IL
•Placed INF C.J. Cron (low back inflammation) on 10-day IL (retro to Aug. 16)
•Designated C Chad Wallach for assignment
•Transferred INF…— Angels PR (@LAAngelsPR) August 18, 2023
The Angels were busy yesterday, activating and deactivating a lot of players for different reasons. Rendon’s move to the 60-day Injured List means that he is unable to return until at least September 9. Given his injury history, there’s no guarantee that he returns at all this season. As for Cron, his back continues to be a problem for him. He will miss at least ten days with the same injury that cost him much more when he was with the Rockies.
Rowdy Tellez – 1B Milwaukee Brewers
There is a high likelihood that Rowdy Tellez will rejoin the Brewers in Texas during this series, I’ve been told.
— Todd Rosiak (@Todd_Rosiak) August 18, 2023
The team had said recently that they wanted Tellez to get going at the plate before activating him. Over his last three games, he has gone 5-for-13 with one home run and five runs batted in. Look for him to take over at first base and try to build on his early-season success.
Matt Wallner – OF Minnesota Twins
Matt Wallner’s hand did not show any fracture during the initial examinations. “We got lucky,” Rocco Baldelli said, “and we’ll take that.”
— Bobby Nightengale (@nightengalejr) August 19, 2023
Wallner got hit by a pitch when he swung at it and it hit him. The team jokingly said that his hands are made of cement, and after having seen the replay, they may not be far off. Consider him DTD for now.
Joe Ryan – SP Minnesota Twins
Joe Ryan was up to Joe Ryan things in a rehab start for the @StPaulSaints.

— Minor League Baseball (@MiLB) August 19, 2023
Ryan dominated in this outing and could be back soon. He threw 71 pitches and may not need another start to prove he’s ready to return.
Ryan Jeffers – C Minnesota Twins
Ryan Jeffers was scratched from the #MNTwins lineup with back soreness. Believed to be relatively minor, per Rocco Baldelli.
Rather than see this as me jinxing him, I choose to see it as the numbers cited in my article remaining accurate for another day.https://t.co/s7EIZZM0d9
— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) August 18, 2023
Consider Jeffers DTD for now.
Carlos Rodón – SP New York Yankees
Carlos Rodón will start Tuesday for the Yankees, Aaron Boone said. Luis Severino on Wednesday.
— Chris Kirschner (@ChrisKirschner) August 18, 2023
Be prepared.
Ranger Suarez – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Ranger Suarez won’t start Sunday, as scheduled. He’s dealing with soreness in his hamstring, which came on in Toronto during the week. Zack Wheeler will start in his place. #Phillies unconcerned that it will be a long-term issue.
— Scott Lauber (@ScottLauber) August 18, 2023
This pushed-back start could make him a two-start pitcher next week.
Bo Bichette – SS Toronto Blue Jays
"I'll be flying out to Cincinnati and should be in the lineup on Saturday."
