MLB Injury Report
Ozzie Albies – 2B Atlanta Braves
Ozzie Albies is eligible to be activated before Friday's game in San Franciso. Snit doesn't anticipate Albies will play in a rehab game before being activated. He was able to complete a lot of activities just a few days after tweaking his hamstring on Aug. 13
— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) August 21, 2023
There was a report over the weekend about how Albies was doing a lot of the baseball activities necessary. The video clip of him running was encouraging, though he hadn’t been doing these things at full speed. It’s good news that he may not even need a rehab appearance and could be back with the Braves as of this Friday if he’s ready to do so. Stay tuned.
Kyle Wright – SP Atlanta Braves
Kyle Wright will pitch for High-A Rome on Thursday as he begins his rehab assignment.
— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) August 21, 2023
Wright has been out of action since the beginning of May. He will likely require close to the allotted 20-day allowed for rehab assignments before coming back to the Braves. It’s unclear what his role will be with the club once he does return.
Jarren Duran – OF Boston Red Sox
Red Sox are talking about calling up Wilyer Abreu. Jarren Duran will receiving an MRI tomorrow
— Christopher Smith (@SmittyOnMLB) August 22, 2023
The team looks prepared to be without Duran for the foreseeable future with the promotion of Abreu. That said, nothing is written in stone and Duran could be back with the team soon enough. There was some speculation that all of this is precautionary.
Cal Quantrill – SP Cleveland Guardians
Cal Quantrill today: 5.1IP 6R/ER 6H 3HR 3BB 3K 84P/54S. FB 94 used all pitches, got a lot of quick, soft outs but gave up some hard contact at inopportune times.
— Ryan Mitchell (@ryanmitchell75) August 20, 2023
Quantrill was hit hard in this game, as the three home runs allowed really stand out here. This was supposed to be his final rehab game, and it very well might be, given the 84 pitches thrown.
Zack Greinke – SP Kansas City Royals
Zack Greinke remains on track to come off the IL tomorrow in Oakland, Matt Quatraro says, as long as everything checks out today. #Royals are discussing with Greinke whether he’ll start or team uses an opener. LHP Angel Zerpa is currently scheduled to start tomorrow.
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) August 22, 2023
It would appear that everything is lining up for Greinke to be activated today. There was no word on “everything checking itself out”.
Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels
It’s not guaranteed that Mike Trout returns tomorrow, Phil Nevin said. They did option Jordyn Adams, but he said they’ll still need to evaluate Trout tomorrow.
Still, it would seem likely that he’s back tomorrow.
— Sam Blum (@SamBlum3) August 21, 2023
It’s looking like Trout Tuesday is upon us. Fantastic.
Luis Arraez – INF Miami Marlins
Per the #Marlins, stomach cramp for Luis Arraez.
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) August 22, 2023
Consider Arraez DTD while he recovers from this stomach ailment.
Johnny Cueto – SP Miami Marlins
Per #Marlins:
— LHP Ryan Weathers recalled from Jacksonville.
— RHP Johnny Cueto placed on the 15-day IL with a viral infection.
— Daniel Álvarez-Montes (@DanielAlvarezEE) August 21, 2023
Cueto will miss his next few turns in the rotation while he recovers from this viral infection.
Luis Medina – SP Oakland Athletics
The A’s reinstated INF Ryan Noda from the IL, placed RHP Luis Medina on the 15-day IL retro. to Aug. 19 with a blister on the right index finger, selected RHP Spencer Patton from Las Vegas, and optioned C/1B Tyler Soderstrom to Las Vegas. Additionally, RHP James Kaprielian was…

Medina will miss the next two weeks with a blister injury. It’s unclear as to when he contracted it.
Mason Miller – SP Oakland Athletics

— Will MacNeil (@RFWill149) August 21, 2023
Miller would finish his outing after 1.2 innings pitched, and 32 pitches thrown. It was a cautious outing for him, in that he didn’t really extend himself more than his first outing. He still has a ways to go and will seemingly need close to the twenty allotted days players get in rehab.
Henry Davis – C/OF Pittsburgh Pirates

— Danny Demilio (@Demilio22) August 22, 2023
It looks like Davis’ hand has been hurting for a while, and time away from swinging and playing baseball could be what he needs. He’s recorded one hit in the last week.
San Francisco Giants – Team Update
There is a lot to unpack here. First off, Brebbia could be back within a couple of weeks as he is a reliever who may not need as much time as a stretched-out starter. Also, Crawford will get a better idea of how serious his forearm strain could be. He has scuffled to the tune of one hit since August 3 and his batting average has fallen below the Mendoza Line. Haniger will need a long rehab assignment since he hasn’t played in months. Pollock has been in and out of the lineup all season with injuries and this is no different. Stripling is hopeful to ramp things up once he starts throwing again, as he just went on the Injured List a few days ago. Finally, Yastrzemski seems to be back from his setback and could be back with the Giants in short order.
Bryan Woo – SP Seattle Mariners
Bryan Woo will start on Tuesday and George Kirby gets the start in 103 degree heat on Wednesday.
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) August 21, 2023
Be prepared.
Emerson Hancock – SP Seattle Mariners
Mariners roster moves: JP Crawford had been activated, Darren McCaughan recalled from AAA. Sam Haggerty optioned, Emerson Hancock to the IL with a shoulder strain. They will have to make another move in the next couple of days with Bryan Woo to come off the IL.
— Shannon Drayer (@shannondrayer) August 21, 2023
Hancock injured himself during his last outing and will miss time while he recovers. The initial thought was that Woo would be the activated player to take his spot, but instead, it was a returning J.P. Crawford. It will be interesting to see what the team does for Woo’s activation today.
Dylan Carlson – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards outfielder Dylan Carlson (left ankle pain, Grade II oblique strain) is seeing another specialist about pain that has lingered in his ankle since mid-May, manager Oli Marmol said. One possibility is season-ending surgery on the ankle that has not shown much improvement.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) August 21, 2023
It’s beginning to look like Carlson won’t see another pitch this season, as his ankle has gotten to be too much. Perhaps it’s been a reason for his disappointing season-long numbers.
Ryan Helsley – RP St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards closer Ryan Helsley (flexor tendon tightness/pain) is undergoing another round of tests and evaluation, manager Oli Marmol said.
Helsley, who has been out since June 10, has experienced pain and tightness between each of his four rehab appearances.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) August 21, 2023
Helsley hasn’t pitched since the start of June and has had setbacks during his recovery. Every time he thinks he’s progressed, he seemingly suffers a setback and needs to be re-evaluated. There is an ominous tone to his timeline here with the potential being season-ending.
Nolan Gorman – INF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards lefty slugger Nolan Gorman (low back pain) will hit off a tee today and increase baseball activity, manager Oli Marmol said. Gorman has had trouble bending at the waist, making defensive drills out of the question. He’s steadily showing improvement.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) August 21, 2023
While it’s encouraging that Gorman is making progress, the fact that he’s unable to bend at the waist is concerning. He will likely need a rehab assignment at some point to prove that he’s able to play. It may be another two weeks before we see him back with the Cardinals.
