MLB Injury Report
John Means – SP Baltimore Orioles
Elias says #Orioles haven’t decided if John Means will start or go to bullpen when he returns.
— Rich DubroffMLB (@RichDubroffMLB) August 26, 2023
This is an interesting twist to the return of Means, as he could either be inserted as a starter or a reliever. One might guess that if he goes to the bullpen then it’s as a long reliever. Stay tuned.
Felix Bautista – RP Baltimore Orioles

Bautista went on the 15-day Injured List with “some degree” of a UCL injury. It’s unclear the status of his elbow going forward, but it would seem like all options are on the table for his future. There’s a very ominous tone surrounding the team regarding his status. There is some speculation that he won’t pitch again this season. As we are close to the month of September, the days remaining are limited.
Kenley Jansen – RP Boston Red Sox

This is seemingly good news here, as Jansen looks to be on track to avoid the Injured List. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but for now, consider him ready to go over the next couple of days.
Cal Quantrill – SP Cleveland Guardians
Cal Quantrill with his best rehab outing so far, 7IP, 4H 0R, BB, 6K – 80 pitches. Used his splitter he was working on earlier this year, 8 swings/4 whiffs on it.
— Justin L. (BlueSky – jlbaseball.bsky.social) (@JL_Baseball) August 26, 2023
After giving up six earned runs over 84 pitches in his last start, Quantrill bounced back with a more dominant effort here. It’s looking like he will be ready to rejoin the Guardians at some point this week and go right back into their rotation.
Chase Silseth – SP Los Angeles Angels
Silseth is still at the hospital getting tests. He was alert and speaking when he left.
He joked if he covered the right base.
— Erica Weston (@EricaLWeston) August 27, 2023
Silseth got hit in the head by a throw from first base to third base. He was on the ground for a while and had to leave the game. It sounds like he is in good spirits here and seemingly with it mentally. He will likely need some time away from the team to pass concussion protocols.
Shohei Ohtani – SP/UT Los Angeles Angels
Perry Minasian just revealed that the Angels offered to do an MRI on Ohtani’s arm after his cramping episode earlier this month and Ohtani and his agent refused because they didn’t think it was necessary.
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) August 26, 2023
Fletcher later clarified that the word “refused” wasn’t the reality of the situation. In fact, he said that Ohtani “turned it down”. This note was to clear up any speculation of Ohtani being difficult to work with. The information was also released by the Angels in response to the criticism that they had been receiving over the handling of his pitching over the last little while.
Mark Vientos – 1B New York Mets
Mark Vientos (left wrist tendinitis) is back from a one-day rehab assignment. He expects to rejoin the active roster tomorrow.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) August 26, 2023
Be prepared.
Pete Alonso – 1B New York Mets
Pete Alonso passed concussion protocol after being hit in the neck tonight. He's doing all right, per Buck Showalter, and shouldn't need more testing in the morning.
"We might have got lucky — again," Showalter said. "But how many times can you get lucky?"
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) August 27, 2023
Alonso got hit in the head before being removed from the game. He may end up missing today’s game as a precautionary measure. Either way, though, he seems to have avoided any serious injury.
Mason Miller – SP Oakland Athletics
This is exciting news for Miller and the Athletics. He has been out of action for months as the team has been extra cautious with his return. From the sounds of it, he could be back for the final three weeks of the season.
Emerson Hancock – SP Seattle Mariners
It looks like Hancock’s season is all but over. The hope is that he will have a normal offseason and can get himself ready for next year.
Yandy Diaz – INF Tampa Bay Rays
Kevin Cash said everything came back good from Yandy Diaz’s CT scan. He is sore. But no fear of IL.
— Tricia Whitaker (@TriciaWhitaker) August 26, 2023
There was some fear earlier in the day when reports surfaced about the team being worried about his arm. It looks as though Diaz will avoid the Injured List and need a few days to get himself right.
Stone Garrett – OF Washington Nationals
Nationals official select the contract of Jacob Young from Triple-A Rochester. Additionally, they transferred Stone Garrett to the 60-day injured list and optioned Jeter Downs to Rochester.
— Bobby Blanco (@Bobby_Blanco) August 26, 2023
This will unfortunately end Garrett’s season, which is disappointing. He was just starting to heat up as of late.
