MLB Injury Report
Kyle Wright – SP Atlanta Braves
#Braves Kyle Wright allowed 3 ER on 3 H in 1.2 IP with 2 BB and 1 K in his 2nd rehab start and first with Triple-A Gwinnett. The final batter he faced hit a 2-run double.
He threw 31 pitches / 15 strikes.
Fastball was sitting 93-94 mph and topped out at 95 mph.
— Grant McAuley (@grantmcauley) August 31, 2023
Wright had his rehab appearance moved from High-A Rome to Triple-A Gwinnett yesterday and the results weren’t up to par. That being said, his fastball was just below his 2022 average, which is encouraging. What’s important to remember is that this is essentially his Spring Training right now, given the time away he’s had from the team. He’s starting from scratch and will need time and patience before returning to his role. The team will be in the playoffs and will need anyone pitching to be at their very best.
Aaron Hicks – OF Baltimore Orioles
Aaron Hicks is continuing to run the bases and is getting closer to a return. #Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Hicks may not need a Minor League rehab assignment.
— Jake Rill (@JakeDRill) August 30, 2023
Interesting choice of words here, since Hicks has been out of action since August 14 and has played in one game since July 24. While a rehab appearance shouldn’t be ruled out completely, it would seem logical to give him some time to get back into the swing of things.
Wilyer Abreu – OF Boston Red Sox
Wilyer Abreu (paternity leave) is expected to rejoin the Red Sox on Friday in Kansas City
— Christopher Smith (@SmittyOnMLB) August 30, 2023
Be prepared.
Jarren Duran – OF Boston Red Sox
Inbox: Red Sox OF Jarren Duran today underwent a successful left great toe flexor tendon repair. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson at the Charlotte Surgical Center in Charlotte, NC.
— Mac Cerullo (@MacCerullo) August 30, 2023
Duran will miss the rest of the 2023 season but is expected to be ready for Spring Training.
Marcus Stroman – SP Chicago Cubs
Cubs Marcus Stroman threw long toss today. a step forward.
— Bruce Levine (@MLBBruceLevine) August 30, 2023
This is progress for Stroman, as he was previously only able to play soft toss. He still has many hurdles to clear, but accomplishing two in two days is a step in the right direction.
Austin Gomber – SP Colorado Rockies
LHP Austin Gomber is still sore after leaving Monday’s game in the third inning with lower back stiffness.#Rockies manager Bud Black said there’s a chance they could skip Gomber’s next start as there’s an off day on Thursday this week and next.
— Patrick Lyons (@PatrickDLyons) August 30, 2023
Gomber left his last start with back soreness. There’s a chance that he heads to the Injured List for this, which could cost him most of what’s left of the schedule.
Salvador Perez – C/1B Kansas City Royals
Salvador Perez was scratched from tonight's lineup with upper back/neck tightness.
UPDATED LINEUP:
3B Maikel Garcia
SS Bobby Witt Jr.
LF MJ Melendez
DH Nelson Velázquez
1B Matt Beaty
C Freddy Fermin
RF Dairon Blanco
2B Samad Taylor
CF Kyle Isbel— Kansas City Royals (@Royals) August 30, 2023
There was nothing listed about this injury that would suggest it’s more than a DTD situation. The team is off today, so there’s a chance Perez is back tomorrow.
J.D. Martinez – UT Los Angeles Dodgers
J.D. Martinez will take BP on the field tomorrow, then start a two-game rehab with OKC. Dodgers’ expectation is he will be activated some time in the Nationals series, Dave Roberts said.
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) August 31, 2023
Be prepared.
Mason Miller – SP Oakland Athletics
Kotsay said Mason Miller was fine after his 29-pitch outing yesterday but will probably make one more rehab outing with Triple-A Las Vegas.
— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) August 30, 2023
It was believed that Miller would be back sooner than this, but he will apparently need one more outing. Stay tuned.
Ranger Suarez – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Phillies-Brewers weekend probables:
Fri: Wheeler vs. Peralta
Sat: Nola vs. TBD (a call-up)
Sun: Suárez vs. Miley— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) August 30, 2023
Be prepared.
Jake Cronenworth – INF San Diego Padres
Cronenworth took a pitch off of his wrist and suffered a fracture. He has been out of action for almost a week and will undoubtedly be out for much longer. It wouldn’t be surprising if he doesn’t return at all this season. He likely won’t need surgery, but that option is still on the table.
Julio Rodriguez – OF Seattle Mariners
Servais said Julio Rodriguez got treatment on his foot throughout the game and is feeling better. They hope he can play this weekend.
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) August 30, 2023
Rodriguez has said that he is frustrated by this injury because it seemingly came out of nowhere. He will get precautionary examinations just to be sure everything is okay. The good news is that he plans on returning this weekend and may in fact avoid a trip to the Injured List.
George Kirby – SP Seattle Mariners
Kirby will be slotted into the series vs the Mets https://t.co/OsYmOjuQc8
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) August 30, 2023
Be prepared.
Tyler O’Neill – OF St. Louis Cardinals
Tyler O’Neill was not available to come off the bench today, Marmol said. Same knee soreness that bothered him in Philadelphia.
— Jeff Jones (@jmjones) August 30, 2023
O’Neill has missed two of his team’s last four games. It remains to be seen if he will need to head to the Injured List.
Dylan Carlson – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards CF Dylan Carlson, who recently got a pain-killing injection in his left ankle & is dealing with a Grade II oblique strain, is working in the weight room, manager Oli Marmol said. How Carlson responds to those workouts will dictate whether he restarts baseball drills.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) August 30, 2023
Carlson still intends on returning this season, but surgery has not yet been ruled out either.
Lane Thomas – OF Washington Nationals
Lane Thomas' back tightened up on him during today's game, so Davey Martinez took him out with the Nats trailing late. Said three days playing on the artificial turf can do that.
— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) August 30, 2023
Consider Thomas DTD for now until we hear otherwise.
