MLB Injury Report
Gabriel Moreno – C Arizona Diamondbacks
Gabriel Moreno is on the paternity list (congrats!) and José Herrera is recalled from AAA Reno.
— Jody Jackson (@Jody_Jackson) September 11, 2023
Congratulations to the Moreno family. He will likely miss another day or two before returning.
Michael Soroka – SP Atlanta Braves
The #Braves today selected the contract of RHP Jackson Stephens after optioning RHP Allan Winans to Triple-A Gwinnett following yesterday’s game. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred RHP Michael Soroka to 60-day injured list.
— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) September 11, 2023
Soroka’s season is over, but it’s reported that he won’t require surgery to fix his ailing forearm.
Felix Bautista – RP Baltimore Orioles
Felix Bautista has partial tear in UCL. #orioles taking conservative approach. He’s playing catch and Elias said might not be done in 2023. Depends how feels.
— Roch Kubatko (@masnRoch) September 11, 2023
The injury is a partial tear in his UCL. As a result, Tommy John Surgery likely isn’t the only answer to the problem here. He could have other procedures in order to fix his elbow. He has thrown and will continue to throw in order to work himself out of it. The team has called this a conservative approach to the situation. There is a chance that he throws again for the Orioles. However, in order for that to happen, he will need to progress from just playing catch and begin to stretch out without interruption. The immediate future will be telling if he can in fact return.
Adbert Alzolay – RP Chicago Cubs
#Cubs Michael Fulmer reinstated from the 15-day IL. Adbert Alzolay placed on the 15-day IL with a right forearm strain (retro 9/10).
— Taylor McGregor (@Taylor_McGregor) September 11, 2023
This is a brutal blow to the Cubs and to fantasy owners everywhere. He has apparently been dealing with this issue for quite some time. There has been no indication as of yet for what comes next, but surgery is an option here. Stay tuned as the Cubs will probably give some more details as to the future of Alzolay very soon.
Shane Bieber – SP Cleveland Guardians
🚨REHAB ALERT🚨 Shane Bieber will make a rehab start tomorrow in Akron. Get your tickets now!

— Akron RubberDucks (@AkronRubberDuck) September 11, 2023
It has been reported that Bieber will attempt to throw 55 pitches in this outing, which would be a tremendous start to his road back. The team has also said that he could return to Cleveland in about ten days. While this isn’t set in stone, it does show that they have a plan for him and how important these first two rehab starts are.
Shohei Ohtani – SP/UT Los Angeles Angels
Shohei Ohtani (oblique) has been scratched from the lineup. Mike Moustakas is at DH
— Rhett Bollinger (@RhettBollinger) September 11, 2023
Ohtani was originally inserted into the lineup but then immediately taken out of it. He took some batting practice swings but didn’t feel quite right. It does sound like he’s close.
Sandy Alcantara – SP Miami Marlins, Jorge Soler – OF Miami Marlins
In addition to the Sixto news, the other main #Marlins injury updates: Sandy Alcantara is completing rehab with the team in Milwaukee but is not throwing yet. Jorge Soler began a hitting progression in Miami today.
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) September 11, 2023
There is no timeline yet for a return from Alcantara, and time is running out on the regular season. He last pitched on September 3 and that might be it for him this year. As for Soler, he is eligible to return in a few days, and this hitting progression looks like it will help him get there. He may need to miss a day or two extra if things don’t go smoothly.
Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers
No Christian Yelich in the lineup for the third straight day today. He’s ramped up his activity and was doing some running this afternoon. In terms of going forward, “what comes from that activity today will lead to tomorrow,” Counsell said.
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) September 11, 2023
The good news here is that the time doesn’t seem overly concerned with Yelich’s health. They believe that he will be able to return soon enough and that his progress is fine. The bad news here is that this is during the stretch run of the fantasy baseball season, and anytime away makes decisions tough to make. Hopefully, he will be back by Wednesday.
Francisco Alvarez – C New York Mets
"He's sore, but he could play"
Buck Showalter provides an update on Francisco Alvarez: pic.twitter.com/JCbHKoMGlC
— SNY (@SNYtv) September 11, 2023
From the sounds of things, Alvarez will be back soon enough, possibly today.
Oswald Peraza – INF New York Yankees
Oswald Peraza has been dealing with some swelling in his left knee. Had MRI yesterday which came back clean. Boone said he’s day to day #yankees
— Meredith Marakovits (@M_Marakovits) September 12, 2023
Consider Peraza DTD for now, as he should be back within the coming days.
Ross Stripling – RP/SP San Francsico Giants
Ross Stripling threw 50 pitches in another live BP session and reiterated that he feels ready to return.
Despite some frustration, Stripling said he isn’t expecting to opt out as of now.
“In my head, it seems obvious that I haven’t pitched well enough to opt out,” he said.
— Maria I. Guardado (@mi_guardado) September 11, 2023
It sounds like Stripling could return soon, and that he will have a chip on his shoulder. He seems unhappy with himself and could work to fix that heading into next season.
Jose Siri – OF Tampa Bay Rays
It is a small “hairline” fracture, as it was explained by Siri.
— Tricia Whitaker (@TriciaWhitaker) September 12, 2023
The hope is that Siri will only miss a few weeks, but it’s likely that his regular season is all but over. He may return for the final week, but chances are the team will play things cautiously with him as they head toward the playoffs.
Matt Chapman – 3B Toronto Blue Jays
Matt Chapman (finger) took ground balls, threw to bases and will hit in cage.
It’s about pain tolerance at this point. He’ll repeat the routine tomorrow, but won’t be back until he can comfortably hit off the high-velo machine. #BlueJays
— Ethan Diamandas (@EthanDiamandas) September 11, 2023
It looks like this will be something that Chapman will have to live to work through for the rest of the season.
