2023 Fantasy Hockey Sleepers: New Jersey Devils

Next up in our 2023 Fantasy Hockey Sleepers series is the New Jersey Devils. The Devils sport a spectacular roster, led by stars like Jack Hughes, Timo Meier, Dougie Hamilton, and Nico Hischier. Yet, what makes them lethal is their outstanding depth. Due to this, they have many sleepers worth targeting in your fantasy hockey draft. Let’s go over three of them now.

New Jersey Devils Sleepers for 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey

Tyler Toffoli

Tyler Toffoli is a classic sleeper pick to consider. The 31-year-old is a proven top-six winger who provides strong offensive production. He had a fantastic season with the Calgary Flames in 2022-23, posting 34 goals and 73 points. Yet, now that he’s joining a better Devils team, his production has the chance to be even better.

Toffoli will have a top-six spot on the Devils, likely forming a trio with Hughes and Jesper Bratt. This line has the chance to be lethal, as they each are excellent offensive players. With that, Toffoli will be a key part of the Devils’ power play, and this will only give him more chances to succeed. Thus, when you see the stars start coming off the board, don’t be afraid to pick Toffoli.

Akira Schmid

The 2022-23 season was a coming-out party for Akira Schmid. The 23-year-old posted a 9-5-2 record, .922 SV%, and 2.13 GAA in 18 regular-season appearances. He followed that up with a spectacular postseason, posting a .921 SV% in nine games. While the sample size was small, Schmid left a fantastic impression last season.

With Schmid being a breakout candidate in 2023-24, he is a goalie who fantasy managers should consider taking a shot on. The young netminder will have an excellent defensive group in front of him, and he showed that he handles playing under pressure well. Thus, when you see the top goalies gone, don’t be afraid to pick Schmid with your later picks.

Alexander Holtz

Alexander Holtz is another sleeper from the Devils to pay attention to in 2023-24. The 2020 seventh-overall pick has a plethora of potential and is looking to take a big step forward in 2023-24. When noting that he is expected to have a full-time NHL spot this season, he should do just that. Because of this, he may be a player worth taking a chance on as a waiver wire addition or even late in your fantasy draft.

Holtz struggled last season while with the Devils, posting just three goals and an assist in 19 games. However, a new year offers a clean slate, and he will look to take advantage of it. With Holtz having top-six potential, the Devils are likely to give him plenty of power-play time. This, in turn, could be enough for him to start generating more offense at the NHL level. Due to this, fantasy managers should watch Holtz very closely in 2023-24.

Alas, it is apparent that the red-hot Devils have some wonderful sleeper options worth selecting in fantasy hockey. Toffoli is a proven point-producer, while Schmid and Holtz both clearly have the potential to take big steps forward in 2023-24.
