Key Fantasy Football Takeaways from NFL Week 3

Each week I take a look at every single team and who did what for that given week. The intention is to lay out all of the stats and facts in one place so you do not have to go and look it up yourself. Basically doing the dirty work for you here. As Fantasy Football managers it is definitely important to look at snap percentages, targets, total touches, efficiency, and production each week to be able to process and potentially pivot with new information gained.

It is also important to balance overreacting to with appropriately reacting to what happens within a given week. Here are some Fantasy Football takeaways from each team from the Thursday and Sunday games in Week 3 that I feel are important for you to take note of. Points per reception (PPR) scoring is referenced.

Fantasy Football Takeaways from NFL Week 3

Arizona

  • James Conner continues to touch the ball plenty (16 touches) and found the end zone for the second week in a row. 14 attempts for 98 yards and a score meant a Top 10 Fantasy week.
  • For the second straight week, Marquise Brown scored 17 Fantasy Points (17.4 then 17.1). Hollywood has scored in back-to-back weeks and had a season-high 61 receiving yards in this one.
  • Joshua Dobbs throwing a solid 81% completion percentage is encouraging for the pass-catchers as it was against a tough Cowboys defense that the Cardinals beat.

Atlanta

  • The only player to score 10 or more Fantasy Points was Bijan Robinson (10 exactly). 10 carries for 33 yards and his third straight week catching four or more passes.
  • Kyle Pitts had his best scoring Fantasy week with 8.7 points. Nine targets is encouraging but Pitts continues to frustrate us for Fantasy.
  • After scoring 18.7 Fantasy Points last week, Drake London goes backward again to a mediocre 5.1. London caught two of his six targets for 31 yards.
  • Desmond Ridder threw a career-high 38 passing attempts but was inefficient with that number, completing just 21 passes (55.3%). Ridder threw for just 201 yards.

Baltimore

  • 101 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns seems very classic Lamar Jackson. That’s three straight weeks throwing at a 71% or higher completion percentage. It is also the second time in three weeks Jackson finished a game without a passing touchdown.
  • Zay Flowers did not necessarily explode for Fantasy Football (13 points) but it is very encouraging to see him being targeted 10 times for the second time in three weeks. Eight catches for 48 receiving yards.
  • Gus Edwards left Sunday’s game to be evaluated for a concussion after rushing 11 times for 51 yards. Melvin Gordon finished with 10 carries for 32 yards and two receptions while Kenyan Drake only had three touches. Justice Hill was inactive this week due to injury.

Buffalo

  • Second week in a row over 20 Fantasy Points for Josh Allen. One passing touchdown, one interception, and one rushing touchdown.
  • Stefon Diggs caught eight of his 12 targets for 111 receiving yards and finished with 19.1 Fantasy Points. Diggs has had games of 13 and 12 targets through three weeks.
  • After rushing for 123 yards in Week 2, James Cook rushed for 98 in Week 3. Double-digit Fantasy scoring in all three weeks so far. Latavius Murray scored again and out-touched Damien Harris six to five.
  • Back-to-back weeks with a receiving touchdown for Gabe Davis but his second week at just four targets as well. Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox combined for just four targets.

Carolina

  • Back-to-back big weeks for Adam Thielen, scoring 20.4 Fantasy Points last week and then 31.5 Fantasy Points this week. 11 catches on 14 targets for 145 receiving yards and a touchdown.
  • Andy Dalton stepped in for an injured Bryce Young and looked like a boost to the pass-catchers for Week 3. Dalton threww 34/58 for 361 yards and two touchdowns.
  • DJ Chark was also a solid Fantasy play, catching four passes for 86 receiving yards and a touchdown. The 11 targets is important to note, although the catch percentage was low.
  • Miles Sanders finally had a solid Fantasy week with 17.2 points. Sanders only carried the ball nine times but found the end zone, as well as caught a season-high five passes for 38 yards.

Chicago

  • DJ Moore scored his first touchdown as a Bear on the final drive. Week 2 was more DJ Moore (104 receiving yards) than Weeks 1 and 3.
  • Justin Fields threw 11/22 for just 99 yards with both a passing touchdown and an interception. Fields rushed for 47 yards as well. He has not looked great and it is showing for his Fantasy Football scoring so far this season, with no weeks at 15+ Fantasy Points (yet).
  • Roschon Johnson finished with 10 total touches to Khalil Herbert’s nine. This continues to be a split backfield, but I truly believe Johnson will edge Herbert following the BYE week.

Cleveland

  • Amari Cooper caught seven of his eight targets for a season-high 116 receiving yards and a score. 24.6 Fantasy Points. Cooper finished with 90 receiving yards after 10 targets last week.
  • Deshaun Watson had his second week of over 20 Fantasy Points in Week 3. 27/33 (81.8%) for 289 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.
  • Jerome Ford had a big day once again, guided by both a rushing and receiving touchdown. 12 total touches compared to Kareem Hunt’s seven, who appeared in his first game back with Cleveland.
  • Back-to-back weeks with exactly nine targets for Elijah Moore, who caught all of them for 49 yards. It is clear Moore is the #2 behind Cooper.

Dallas

  • Michael Gallup was the Fantasy standout, catching six passes for 92 yards. Seven targets after seeing just four total the prior two weeks combined.
  • Season-high 122 rushing yards for Tony Pollard. This marks Pollard’s third straight week with at least 15 Fantasy Points.
  • Third straight week outside the Top 15 Fantasy quarterbacks for Dak Prescott. 249 passing yards and a one-to-one touchdown to interception ratio.
  • Second time through three weeks that CeeDee Lamb only caught four passes. Week 2’s explosion is the expected (11 catches on 13 targets for 143 receiving yards) but that is not looking consistent.

Denver

  • Big Courtland Sutton day, catching eight of 11 targets for 91 yards and a touchdown. Sutton did fumble twice in Week 3.
  • Rookie Marvin Mims Jr. continues to show receiving yard upside and playmaking abilities, catching three passes for 75 yards. Mims caught just two passes for 113 last week. 56.5 and 24.3 yards per reception in the last two weeks.
  • Second straight week for Russell Wilson throwing over 300 yards (308 then 306) but one touchdown to one interception did not push for a great Fantasy scoring week
  • Jerry Jeudy was targeted seven times and caught five of those for 81 yards. Jeudy had a touchdown called back which would have changed his Fantasy week.

Detroit

  • After finishing with 63 receiving yards last week, Sam LaPorta finished with 84 in Week 3. LaPorta caught eight of his 11 targets with one of them being a touchdown. 22.4 Fantasy Points. Huge week for the rookie.
  • Amon-Ra St. Brown caught nine of his 12 targets for (second week in a row on the dot) 102 receiving yards. ARSB has scored 19 Fantasy Points in two of his three games this season.
  • Despite David Montgomery being out, Jahmyr Gibbs failed to have much of a Fantasy week. Gibbs ran the ball 17 times, which was three more times than Weeks 1 and 2 combined. 80 rushing yards (4.7 yards per carry) is a good sign, but only one catch after having seven the week prior was dissapointing.

Green Bay

  • A passing and a rushing touchdown, along with a season-high 259 passing yards led Jordan Love to his best Fantasy week. Love has yet to score under 20 Fantasy points through three starts.
  • Romeo Doubs had his second week of 18 Fantasy Points, catching five of his 12 targets for 73 yards and a touchdown.
  • Second-round rookie tight end Luke Musgrave caught six of his eight targets for 49 yards and second-round rookie wide receiver Jayden Reed caught three of seven targets for 63 yards.

Houston

  • Another 20+ Fantasy Point outing for Tank Dell in Week 3, catching five of his seven targets for 145 yards. Dell has scored a touchdown in back-to-back weeks, with 17 total targets in these two games.
  • Back-to-back 20+ Fantasy Point weeks for CJ Stroud. Stroud threw 20/30 for 280 passing yards and two touchdowns. Four passing touchdowns and 664 passing yards in the last two weeks combined.
  • Dameon Pierce had his first week over 10 Fantasy Points (14.9), guided by a rushing touchdown and three catches. Pierce has rushed for just 38-31-31 yards in the last three weeks. Devin Singletary was efficient, running nine times for 41 yards in Week 3.

Indianapolis

  • Back-to-back weeks for Zack Moss scoring over 20 Fantasy Points. Moss ran 30 times for 122 rushing yards and had a receiving touchdown. He has looked solid the last two weeks in both the yardage and touchdown departments.
  • Michael Pittman Jr. has been targeted 11-12-11 times through three games. Pittman finished with a season-high nine catches this week and took them for 77 yards.
  • Josh Downs matched his Week 1 and Week 2 combined targets in Week 3 along with 12. Downs caught eight of those for 57 yards. Alec Pierce earned seven this week.

Jacksonville

  • Travis Etienne rushed for a season-high 88 yards on 19 carries in Week 3. Etienne also caught four balls for a season-high 50 receiving yards.
  • Another good week for Christian Kirk, who caught four passes for 54 yards and a touchdown. 15+ Fantasy Points in back-to-back games.
  • Calvin Ridley caught just three of his seven targets for 40 yards in Week 3. This is coming off of a game he caught just two of eight targets. In Week 1 Ridley exploded, and he is still being targeted at a good rate so look for a bounce-back.

Kansas City

  • Season-high three passing touchdowns for Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 272 yards in Week 3. This resulted in a season-high in Fantasy Points as well with 25.7.
  • Travis Kelce scored a touchdown for the second week in a row and finished with 69 receiving yards in this one. Kelce has been targeted 17 times across the last two weeks after missing Week 1.
  • Jerick McKinnon scored two receiving touchdowns (17.8 Fantasy Points), Isiah Pacheco rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown (15.8 Fantasy Points) and Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown (12.7 Fantasy Points).

Los Angeles

  • For the second week in a row, Keenan Allen is the best-scoring Fantasy wide receiver. He  scored 45.46 Fantasy Points via catching 18 of his 20 targets for 215 yards and even tossing a touchdown himself. Allen was coming off of a 111-yard and two-touchdown Week 2, and upped that in Week 3. 31 years old??
  • Justin Herbert had his best Fantasy week this season scoring 29.3 Fantasy Points. Herbert threw for 405 yards and three touchdowns. Week 2 Herbert threw for 305 and two touchdowns.
  • Mike Williams suffered a season-ending ACL injury after catching seven passes for 121 receiving yards and a touchdown (25.1 Fantasy Points). Joshua Palmer looks like the next man up and finished the week with 66 receiving yards and a touchdown himself.

Las Vegas

  • We saw classic Davante Adams this week, with the veteran catching 13 of his 20 targets for 172 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Adams more than doubled the 20.4 Fantasy Points from last week in Week 3 with 42.2.
  • Jimmy Garoppolo left Sunday’s game due to a concussion and is in the protocol now.
  • Jakobi Meyers looked solid yet again, catching seven of his 12 targets for 85 yards. Meyers missed Week 2 but in Week 1 he caugfht nine of his 10 targets for 81 yards and two touchdowns. FLEX category.
  • Josh Jacobs has scored 9.1-9.9-11 Fantasy Points the last three weeks after leading the league in rushing yards last season.

Miami

  • The Dolphins scored 70 points against Denver, leading to plenty of Fantasy success.
  • Rookie De’Von Achane rushed the ball 18 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Achane also caught four passes with two of them resulting in receiving touchdowns. Achane’s 51.3 Fantasy Points was the best for the week.
  • Raheem Mostert rushed 13 times for 82 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Mostert also caught a receiving touchdown. 45.2 Fantasy Points in Week 3 after scoring 25.7 in Week 2 where he rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Tyreek Hill caught nine of his 11 targets for 157 receiving yards and a touchdown. Four total touchdowns on the year with 215 receiving yards back in Week 1.
  • Tua Tagovailoa threw 23/26 (88.5%) for 309 passing yards and four touchdowns. Through three weeks Tua has thrown for 1,024 passing yards and eight touchdowns.

Minnesota

  • Last year’s WR1, Justin Jefferson, had his third straight week scoring 24+ Fantasy Points (27.9). Jefferson caught 7 of his 13 targets for 149 receiving yards and a touchdown. Jefferson has been targeted 12-13-13 times in the first three games.
  • Kirk Cousins threw 32/50 for 367 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Cousins currently leads all quarterbacks in passing yards (1,075 yards), passing touchdowns (nine), and total Fantasy Points (72.8).
  • Alexander Mattison had his best Fantasy week upon the news that Cam Akers was joining the team. Mattison rushed the ball 20 times for 93 yards and caught five passes for 32 yards.
  • TJ Hockenson caught eight of his 11 targets for 78 yards. Hockenson finished with 66 receiving yards and two touchdowns the week prior.

New England

  • Pharaoh Brown stole Hunter Henry’s thunder catching two passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns. All smoke there with Brown finishing Weeks 1 and 2 with no catches.
  • Ezekiel Elliott rushed 16 times for 80 yards and caught a pass for seven yards. Rhamondre Stevenson rushed 18 times for 59 yards and caught one pass for three yards. True committee with Zeke being the more efficient back in Week 3.
  • Mac Jones threw 15/29 for 201 yards and a touchdown, which did not help any of the pass-catchers. Jones had a great Week 1 then came back down to Earth the last two weeks.

New Orleans

  • Chris Olave caught eight of his 11 targets for 104 receiving yards. Olave has been targeted 10-11-11 times resulting in games of 112-86-104 receiving yards.
  • Back-to-back weeks with Michael Thomas earning nine targets. Thomas caught six for 50 yards and has scored 11-12.5 Fantasy Points every week this season.
  • Derek Carr left Sunday’s game with an injury, which meant Jameis Winston stepping in as the starter. News to monitor there.

New York

  • Matt Breida rushed four times for 17 yards and a touchdown as the Saquon Barkley replacement. Breida was the only Giant to score 10 Fantasy Points (10.8).
  • Daniel Jones completed 22/32 passes for 137 yards and an interception. This performance was similar to his Week 1 poor outing and impacted all of the pass-catchers to a bad day.

New York

  • Garrett Wilson caught five of his nine targets for 48 receiving yards. Wilson led all Jets for Fantasy with 9.8 points this week.
  • Zach Wilson threw 18/36 for 157 passing yards. This sort of stat line along with a 10-15 loss for the Jets was a major impact for all of the Jets Fantasy pieces.
  • Dalvin Cook finished with 11 touches to Breece Hall’s 13.

Pittsburgh

  • Kenny Pickett had a decent outing in Week 3 throwing 16/28 for 235 passing yards and two touchdowns.
  • Calvin Austin stood out in Week 3 due to scoring a touchdown and finishing with 72 receiving yards on just two catches.
  • George Pickens cooled off after his 127 receiving yards in Week 2 with four catches for 75 yards. His 31.8 and 18.8 yards per reception in the last two weeks show his upside.
  • Pat Freiermuth caught three of his four targets for 41 yards and scored his second touchdown of the season.

Seattle

  • Kenneth Walker III followed up his two-touchdown performance from Week 2 with another two touchdowns in Week 3. KWIII rushed the ball 18 times for a season-high 97 rushing yards as well as caught three passes for 59 yards. Huge 30.1 Fantasy Point Week.
  • DK Metcalf caught six passes for 112 receiving yards and finished with 17.2 Fantasy Points. Eight targets was a season-high for DK, who was coming off of a 75-receiving-yard game.

San Francisco

  • Deebo Samuel had a huge game, catching six passes on 12 targets for 129 receiving yards and a touchdown. 22.1 and then 25.1 Fantasy Points in the last two weeks.
  • Christian McCaffrey rushed the ball 18 times for 85 yards and his third consecutive rushing touchdown. CMC caught a season-high five passes for 34 yards. Three straight weeks of at least 22 Fantasy Points.
  • Brock Purdy threw 25/37 for 310 passing yards and two touchdowns. Clearly his best Fantasy week.
  • After scoring under 7 Fantasy Points in the opening two weeks, George Kittle scored 16 in Week 3. Kittle caught seven of nine targets for 70 receiving yards. Clear bump with Brandon Aiyuk out this week.

Tennessee

  • D’Andre Hopkins led all Titans with 7.8 Fantasy Points, which shows you the type of week the team had. Ryan Tannehill’s 104 passing yards and 0 touchdowns was a big reason why.
  • It is important to note that Tyjae Spears played 56% of the snaps and had eight touches while Derrick Henry played just 38% of the snaps and had 11 touches.

Washington

  • Sam Howell had himself a nightmare, throwing 19/29 for 170 passing yards and four interceptions. This impacted all Commanders for Fantasy Football across the board.
