Six weeks of NFL football and there are a handful of players to drop in Week 7. Countless numbers of players have let a majority of us down. A lot of us also are holding on to these players on our bench. We call those players roster cloggers. With Week 7 approaching, the time is nearing to clinch playoff spots for your leagues.
Do not hold feelings to these roster cloggers on your bench. Chances are the breakout is not happening. Sure, a game of double-digit points might occur, but it is not worth holding on to them like crypto. Here are players that should be dropped going into Week 7. Let the ship sail and don’t look back.
Players to Drop for Week 7
Jahan Dotson, Wide Receiver, Washington Commanders
Jahan Dotson was viewed by consensus as a breakout receiver going into his sophomore season. Through six weeks Dotson is in the WR60 range in ppg. He was drafted as the WR31. It is safe to say the ship is not sailing in 2023. Jahan Dotson was viewed as someone who was going to take the WR1 title away from Terry McLaurin.
All in all, Dotson is not happening. He has been outscored by Curtis Samuel in all six games this season. Drop Dotson with confidence.
Elijah Moore, Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns
Another young receiver with the ship no longer sailing. Elijah Moore became a Cleveland Brown via trade this past off-season. Then, the community was all in on Elijah Moore again, myself included. Since then, Moore has been averaging his lowest YPC (yards per catch) in his career. Also, he is averaging just 7.5 ppg (WR67).
Furthermore, with Deshaun Watson having a lingering injury, Moore is a definite Week 7 drop. In addition, Moore was not producing WITH Watson. There is no shot he produces without Watson.
Miles Sanders, Running Back, Carolina Panthers
Miles Sanders is having the worst season of his NFL career. Sanders is averaging 8.8 ppg. Things get worse as Chuba Hubbard filled in for the injured Sanders in Week 6. Then, Hubba exceeded all expectations. Hubbard delivered 16 points on 88 rushing yards and one touchdown. Week 6 saw the most efficient game of a Carolina Panthers running back and it was not Miles Sanders.
With both healthy, Hubba was eating into Sanders’ role. I believe you can drop Sanders as things are only going to get worse for his situation.
KJ Osborn, Wide Receiver, Minnesota Vikings
Yes, Justin Jefferson is hurt, but KJ Osborn can be replaced with better talent with more touchdown upside. In the first game without Jefferson, just 8.8 fantasy points were accumulated by Osborn. The top two options on this team without Jefferson are TJ Hockenson and Jordan Addison.
Osborn skyrocketed with the Jefferson news with a 40% roster percentage in ESPN leagues. The schedule does not get any easier with match-ups against San Francisco, Green Bay, Atalanta, and New Orleans. Make KJ Osborn one of your Week 7 drops and thank me later.
Dalvin Cook, Running Back, New York Jets
It seemed so long ago when Dalvin Cook was an automatic first-round pick in fantasy football. Running backs are the quickest position to go in the NFL and it is showing with Dalvin Cook. Cook’s lowest YPA (yards per attempt) was 4.4 last season. Now, he is averaging a career-low 2.7 ypc.
The issue is that Dalvin Cook is still rostered in 60% of ESPN leagues. Breece Hall is the RB1 of the New York Jets and nothing is changing that. Frankly, if Breece Hall were to get hurt, I still think Cook would not be worth starting. He had his time and now it is time to be a role model for Breece Hall. It is also time for him to be off your fantasy roster. Drop Cook for Week 7 drops and enjoy the last time he will ever be on a fantasy football team.
Hunter Henry, Tight End, New England Patriots
Fantasy football gets very weird in the first few weeks. It was so weird after the first two weeks, Hunter Henry was a top two option at the position and the must-have waiver wire add. Now, Henry has 14.5 total points over the last month of the season. He has dropped 13.8% and is now rostered in 43.7% of ESPN leagues.
Add Henry to your Week 7 drops and pivot to someone such as Logan Thomas who is owned in 39.1% of ESPN leagues and a much better offense.
Player on the Chopping Block
This is a list of players or a player that with enough thought should be dropped and if not, then give that player one to two more weeks to prove themselves before saying your goodbyes.
Dameon Pierce
Pierce has been the product of a running back with no real competition for touches. So, the volume goes to Pierce, and yet, he still cannot produce. Yes, the Texans have injuries on the offensive line. Unfortunately, that does not stop us from needing to make the correct moves for our rosters.
Yes, Pierce was drafted as a top-15 running back, but is currently the RB30 in ppg. His YPC (yards per carry) is also down from his rookie season from 4.3 to 2.9. Give him two weeks after his Week 7 bye. If he can’t deliver top 20 weeks then it is time to part ways with the former Florida Gator.
