Fantasy Football 2023: Week 9 Quarterback and Tight End Sleepers and Streamers

Once again, we are in the midst of an exciting NFL season. Now begins the process of setting the best lineup possible on a weekly basis. Each week, we have you covered as we go through options at both the quarterback and tight end positions. Let us dig into some Week 9 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers along with some Week 9 Tight End Sleepers and Streamers.

Week 9 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers

Quarterback Sleepers

Zach Wilson, New York Jets

Open it up. Let the man throw. Over the past few weeks, the Jets have found a solid groove of success, but they need some real upside. In overtime, Zach Wilson made two big-time throws, and that continues to be a theme. The Jets play things very cautiously with Wilson until they really need to make a play downfield. On Sunday, Wilson made two big throws late in the game to get New York right into field goal range.

Overall, Wilson finished with 240 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Once again he didn’t throw an interception, but Wilson did fumble twice. While you do need to take care of the football, weather was an issue here. If there was going to be a game in which the Jets would let Wilson loose, this would be it. This week he faces a Chargers’ team that is one of the worst against opposing quarterbacks from a fantasy perspective.

Mac Jones, New England Patriots

Now, I have to have lost my mind, right? Not that long ago, there was overwhelming chatter about Mac Jones going to the bench. And now, he is being recommended as one of our sleepers and streamers for the week.

As matchups go, this one is about as good as it gets. Not only is Jones facing a Washington team that allows the most points to opposing quarterbacks, but they are doing so without two top defensive players. As the Commanders clearly play for next season, both Montez Sweat and Chase Young were traded this week. That means Jones will have even more time to work within the pocket.

After going four straight weeks without a touchdown pass, Jones has two in each of the last two games. That includes a shocking upset victory over Buffalo and a loss that was expected against Miami. Given the quarterback situation across the league, you could do worse here.

Quarterback Streamers

Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints

While the Bears did just acquire Montez Sweat in a questionable move, their defense is still not very good. From a fantasy perspective, opposing quarterbacks are top-five performers against Chicago. While that is not completely the inference here for Derek Carr, the Saints’ quarterback is in a good situation.

Carr has been consistently solid, and that has been amplified over the last three weeks. In that stretch, Carr has broken the 300-yard mark each week. With just four touchdowns in total, the upside though, has been limited. Carr does have weapons at his disposal, and the return of Alvin Kamara from suspension has also helped. While he might not win you a matchup, Carr won’t lose it either as one of our sleepers and streamers.

Taylor Heinicke, Atlanta Falcons

The quarterback situation around the league is pretty bleak. When previously given a chance, Heinicke has been a solid performer under center. Following the struggles of Desmond Ridder, the dependable veteran now steps in with the starters. In the past, Heinicke has had success when given the chance, and that continues to be the case.

This time, Heinicke has a strong backfield at his disposal. Bijan Robinson is an explosive weapon and Tyler Allgeier is also a dependable option. There is some concern about Drake London’s health, but Heinicke should have enough options to throw to. Last week in about half a game in relief, he completed 12 of 21 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown. The veteran can move the offense and should have a solid game.

Week 9 Tight End Sleepers and Streamers

Tight End Sleepers

Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

For the second straight week, Cade Otton was targeted six times. From a production standpoint, that turned into four receptions for 27 yards. That seems to be the baseline these days for Otton as he is still looking for his first touchdown of the season.

While there isn’t much reward here, Otton does provide a solid floor. In facing Houston this week, Otton does have one of the more favorable matchups against tight ends on the slate.

Luke Musgrave, Green Bay Packers

The rookie is still dealing with an ankle injury, but that didn’t stop him last week. Well, at least from a workload perspective that is as Luke Musgrave played about three-quarters of the snaps. From a production standpoint, that meant just two receptions for nine yards.

Throughout the week, Musgrave appears to be trending towards a higher involvement and improved health. That is good news as Musgrave has a nice matchup against the Rams on Sunday.

Tight End Streamers

Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are not exactly the class of the NFL. After the trade of Joshua Dobbs, while they may be in between quarterbacks until Kyler Murray returns, that is only heightened. At the same time, Trey McBride is getting all of the work he can handle. Last week, that led to a career-best game from McBride.

He was targeted a staggering 14 times in Week 8 as a stable security blanket. McBride turned that into 10 receptions for 95 yards and his first touchdown of the season. The fact that this came against a tough Baltimore defense makes it that much more impressive.

McBride figures to be heavily involved once again in Arizona’s offense.

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints

For the second straight week, we got a strong game out of Taysom Hill. After two strong weeks in the passing game, Hill wasn’t a factor there, as he caught his only target for 14 yards. On the ground though, Hill more than made up for it. Not only did he gain 63 yards on nine carries, but Hill picked up two touchdowns.

While we sometimes struggle to put our finger on what exactly it may be, Hill truly has a role in the New Orleans offense. The Saints are not shy in giving Hill the touches, and he has done a good job of producing. If you are searching for a tight end, Hill has more upside than anything else you will find. Maybe more importantly, he has gotten to the point where his floor is no different from others in this grouping. As you hunt for tight end production, you can do worse.
