The waiver wire is a great way to add hidden gems and overlooked players to your fantasy hockey club. This remains true whether you plan to have them as short-term or long-term parts of your fantasy hockey roster. Now that we are over two months into the season, we better understand which waiver-wire goalies are worth snagging. As a result, here are three waiver-wire goalies worth adding to your roster in Week 12.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Goalies to Consider for Week 12
Joey Daccord, Seattle Kraken
Goaltending has been a major issue for the Seattle Kraken this season. It is a big reason why they have had a rough start to the 2023-24 campaign, but things are slowly changing on that front because of Joey Daccord. The 27-year-old has won the crease in Seattle due to his excellent play. Thus, he is a waiver-wire goalie to consider in Week 12.
In four out of his last five starts, Daccord has had a .941 SV% or better. His best performance came on Dec. 20 against the Los Angeles Kings, as he saved 42 out of 43 shots in Seattle’s win. The Massachusetts native is proving that he can handle being an NHL starter, so consider taking a chance on him as a waiver-wire addition this week.
Joel Hofer, St. Louis Blues
Speaking of goaltenders playing well lately, Joel Hofer certainly deserves praise. The 23-year-old has been marvelous for the St. Louis Blues in his last two starts. On Dec. 21 against the Florida Panthers, he saved 37 out of 38 shots. He followed that up by stopping 39 out of 40 shots against the Dallas Stars on Dec. 27. This is quite impressive, especially when noting that the Panthers and Stars are both contenders. Because of this, Hofer is a waiver-wire goalie to add this week.
Heading into the season, there were some questions about Hofer being an NHL-ready goalie. It is fair to say that he has silenced his critics, especially with his hot stretch of play as of late. He should only improve as he continues to gain experience. Thus, he’s another quality waiver-wire netminder to consider bringing in this week.
Scott Wedgewood, Dallas Stars
While the Stars certainly miss goaltender Jake Oettinger, Scott Wedgewood has been holding down the fort well. The veteran goaltender has had at least a .905 SV% in three out of his last four starts. With that, he had a strong performance against the Blues last game, saving 28 out of 30 shots. Thus, he is another waiver-wire goalie to keep an eye on right now.
Wedgewood may not be the biggest name in the NHL, but he has shown that he can handle being a starter with Oettinger out. If you are looking for more help in the crease for your fantasy hockey club, consider taking a flier on him. His play has been very solid, and he’s likely available in your league.
Nevertheless, this week offers some solid waiver-wire goalie options. It will be intriguing to see how well this trio performs for the remainder of the season.
