MLB Injury Update – How Long Will Seager Be Out?

Here is the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Thursday, April 25, 2024. In today’s report, a plethora of injuries are touched upon, including those to Corey Seager, Blake Snell, Framber Valdez, and many more. Read about them all in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report for Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers (shin contusion)

Seager did his best to stay in the game after he was hit by a pitch, but it was ultimately not enough. After slowly running toward second base, it was determined that he would need to be replaced. Manager Bruce Bochy said that it “swelled up really good and really fast”. Consider him DTD, though the injury is considered a minor one.

Max Scherzer – SP Texas Rangers (back)

Scherzer himself said that he felt good. He was able to use all of his pitches and he didn’t walk anyone. All in all, it was deemed a successful first outing for him, and the next few outings will be more result-based than this which was a way to ease himself back into pitching in a game.

Paul Sewald – RP Arizona Diamondbacks (oblique)

Great news here on Sewald, as it would appear that he is close to being activated. That said, Mackie later posted the phrasing that there is likely “another rehab outing” in the works, meaning that he’s not done yet in the minor leagues. Nothing is imminent just yet for a return, but we’re getting there.

Alek Thomas – OF Arizona Diamondbacks (hamstring)

Thomas continues to progress forward, but there is no imminent return just yet. He is slowly, but surely, getting better.

Zack Gelof – 2B Oakland Athletics (oblique)

The above interview says it all. Gelof came in sore after practice today, he was scratched late, went info imaging and it was discovered that he had an oblique injury. He will likely need a trip to the Injured List as a result. Depending on the grade of intensity, he could miss a considerable amount of time.

Lane Thomas – OF Washington Nationals (knee)

That it could have been, but this is still a significant injury in and of itself. While surgery won’t be required, he will be resting and icing it for the next little while before testing it out. It feels like a safe bet to say that he will need more time than the 10-day minimum before returning.

Gavin Williams – SP Cleveland Guardians (elbow)

According to manager Stephen Vogt, Williams had an outing and felt the same symptoms he did when he first injured his elbow. His injection and shutdown are not only concerning but also the next actionable step toward fixing the problem. The team hopes that he will be able to throw after a period of inactivity, but anything is possible between now and next week. Stay (cautiously) tuned.

Carlos Correa – SS Minnesota Twins (oblique)

Correa has been out of action since April 12, though he appears to have turned a corner here. The fact that he’s evolved into doing baseball activity is a good thing, though it’s unclear as to if he will require a rehab assignment. Either way, he is on the road to recovery and doing better than he was.

Jhoan Duran – RP Minnesota Twins (oblique)

The velocity for Duran’s first outing was down a bit from his usual production, though there were no real concerns about that. He did struggle to keep runs off the board, so his next outing this Friday will be telling as to how well he is able to limit the damage. Overall though, the feeling after his outing was that of positivity and looking to be closer to a return.

Sean Murphy – C Atlanta Braves (oblique)

Murphy has now missed almost an entire calendar month and has yet to swing a bat. He will surely need a rehab assignment when he’s ready, but there is no ETA on when that will be.

Cody Bellinger – OF Chicago Cubs

With two fractured ribs, there is a chance that Bellinger will miss considerable time here. Surely he will be out for more than the ten-day minimum, though everything is speculative as we speak. In his absence, Pete Crow-Armstrong was called up and will offer some defensive versatility.

Framber Valdez – SP Houston Astros (elbow)

Be prepared.

DJ LeMahieu – INF New York Yankees (foot)

This was the result of a disastrous rehab outing where LeMahieu was forced to leave almost immediately. He will now be shut down again with no baseball activities, and the hope is that he will be back to recover within a week’s time. There is no guarantee that this will happen.

J.P. Crawford – SS Seattle Mariners

While we don’t yet know the severity of the situation here with Crawford, oblique issues typically mean extended time away. Stay tuned.

Thairo Estrada – 2B San Francisco Giants (hamstring)

Melvin said that Estrada wanted to stay in the game, but the team took it safe and removed him. There is a chance that a weird bounce on a ground ball was the culprit. Either way, he will be evaluated today and the team will have updates.

Blake Snell – SP San Francisco Giants (abductor strain)

Snell said that he felt the injury while throwing a bullpen session the other day. He has had this injury before and feels that he caught it at a good time to help alleviate the pain and overall damage done. He missed three to four weeks then and is hopeful that is the case now. These injuries tend to repeat themselves over time, so this isn’t a surprise. That said, there is a significant chance that he misses more than the minimum of fifteen days.

Brayan Bello – SP Boston Red Sox (lat)

Bello said that he felt the injury pop up in his last start. The team is confident that he will only miss the minimum amount of time needed for an Injured List designation, and that this was a precautionary measure. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, as the Red Sox have claimed a lot of things.

Nolan Jones – OF Colorado Rockies (back)

There wasn’t much of an update on Jones yesterday, other than that the team isn’t expecting him to head to the Injured List. It is curious to note that he had been having back pains for a while….if I’m reading this correctly.
