All of that and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report for Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Josh Lowe – OF Tampa Bay Rays (hamstring)

Lowe is seemingly recovered from an oblique injury that cost him the beginning of this season. Now, as he is recovering from this hamstring issue, he is being treated as if he had a DTD designation, despite being on the Injured List. It was a very vague diagnosis here from his MRI, but it would appear that it is all good news. There is no ETA in sight, but given the circumstances, it might not be too much longer.

Yu Darvish – SP San Diego Padres (neck)

Be prepared.

Oakland Athletics – Team Update

Of fantasy relevance here, J.D. Davis (thigh) had one hit in his only rehab game. He will continue to hit there until the club feels that he is ready to return. As for Zack Gelof (oblique), he will likely remain on the Injured List well past his ten-day minimum, as these types of injuries are difficult to predict.

Jhoan Duran – RP Minnesota Twins (oblique)

Be prepared.

Craig Kimbrel – RP Baltimore Orioles (back)

The team is hopeful that Kimbrel can work through this on his own and avoid a trip to the Injured List. Of note, Danny Coulombe was called on for the save last night. Be sure to check in on and follow Mike Carter (@mdrc0508) for everything bullpen-related here at Fantrax.

Kyle Bradish – SP Baltimore Orioles (elbow), John Means – SP Baltimore Orioles (forearm)

Be prepared.

New York Yankees – Team Update

Of fantasy relevance here, Gerrit Cole (elbow) continues to throw well on flat ground, as his distanced throwing has extended up to 120 feet. The biggest hurdle for him will be when he is able to do so from a mound. As for Jon Berti (groin), while he didn’t record a hit in his only rehab game, it’s important to note that he did get out there and play.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand – 1B Cincinnati Reds (hand)

Encarnacion-Strand was hit by a pitch last week and has missed time as a result. The notion of an old fracture causing soreness here is a bit concerning. We should know more when the results of the MRI are released, but for now, consider him DTD. There is a chance that he will head to the Injured List as a result of this.

Kyle Hendricks – SP Chicago Cubs (back)

Hendricks has been out for about one week after a very disappointing start to the season. If all goes well, he could be back in the rotation when first eligible.

Justin Steele – SP Chicago Cubs (hamstring)

On Wednesday, the team will see how well he can adjust to throwing by having him begin a rehab assignment. He’s been up to 65 pitches, and if the rehab start is a success, there is a possibility that he returns shortly after that. Stay tuned.

Seiya Suzuki – OF Chicago Cubs (oblique)

While it’s great to see that Suzuki has been able to ramp up his workouts, it is somewhat disheartening that there is no rehab on the horizon. The hope was that he would be able to bounce back more quickly than he did last year, but for now, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Cody Bellinger – OF Chicago Cubs (ribs)

Bellinger is increasing the intensity of his baseball activities every day, but he is still in pain, leading one to believe that he is still a ways away from returning.

Zac Gallen – SP Arizona Diamondbacks (hamstring)

Be prepared.

Arizona Diamondbacks – Team Update

A lot to unpack here. Nelson (elbow) may not need a rehab assignment and could be back soon. As for Thomas (hamstring), his delay should only be minor as he’s not feeling well. Finally, it’s good to see Sewald (oblique) scheduled to go out there after having his momentum shut down indefinitely. There’s no word on if he is back on the same course as before, mind you.

Eduardo Rodriguez – SP Arizona Diamondbacks (shoulder)

This was a refreshing take on something that happens a lot in sports with injuries. Too often, the team and/or the player will rush a player’s rehab or recovery with the end goal of having them perform on the field. Manager Torey Lovullo acknowledged this here and admitted that happened with the way that Rodriguez’s situation was handled. Hopefully going forward, the Diamondbacks and other teams will take the approach of doing what’s right and what’s best for each situation.
