MLB Injury Report for Tuesday, June 11, 2024

San Francisco Giants – Team Update

Big update here from the Giants with some fantasy ramifications. First off, Alex Cobb (hip) is said to be pain-free for the first time in a long time, so throwing from a mound is a big deal. If he can successfully clear this hurdle, it may be more about ramping up his arm over anything more. As for Blake Snell (groin), he had recently been throwing from flat ground, but will now progress to mound work. The team would be wise to take things slowly, given his recent injury history from this season alone. Finally, LaMonte Wade Jr. (hamstring) finished a shutdown period and will now attempt to get himself back onto the field and test out his ailing hamstring.

Chicago White Sox – Team Update

Good news here for the White Sox, as both Andrew Benintendi (Achilles) and Tommy Pham (ankle) are ready to begin their rehab. For the record, Benintendi went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double last night, while Pham went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts last night in their first games.

Milwaukee Brewers – Team Update

The Brewers have had some tough injuries on some key future pieces. Robert Gasser (elbow) did not like the opinions of the previous two recommendations and will now seek a third option. It feels as if he is unwilling to accept the fact that he has a long-standing injury that will cost him a significant amount of time. It’s understandable to be unaccepting of this, but he is also wasting time in the process. It feels safe to assume that his 2024 season is done either way. As for DL Hall (knee), his rehab will resume in Nashville. The belief is that a PRP injection or even surgery are both options that Hall refuses to accept, as he has already gone for two opinions. Finally, Jakob Junis (shoulder) will test out his shoulder this week, and if things go well, he may not need a rehab assignment.

Kansas City Royals – Team Update

Two very important updates here from Anne. Michael Massey (back) has been out of action for weeks now, and is just beginning to get back into some physical activity. Due to the length of this inactivity, chances are that he will need a rehab assignment which could be lengthy. As for Michael Wacha (foot), his bullpen session will be thrown today despite the fact that he’s been playing catch daily. It will be interesting to see how he is able to navigate himself with a broken (but healing) foot.

Hunter Renfroe – OF Kansas City Royals (toe)

Renfroe fouled off two pitches off of his foot, and the team later revealed that he suffered a fractured toe. Chances are that he will miss some time and will be placed on the Injured List later today. Stay tuned.

Gavin Williams – SP Cleveland Guardians (elbow)

Williams had an effective outing this weekend, as he was able to get through three innings of work in only 50 pitches. That said, this was the longest outing pitch-wise throughout his entire rehab assignment, and chances are that the Guardians want more out of him. He will likely need at least one more outing, but two would be a better estimation given how cautious the team has been with him.

Ben Lively – SP Cleveland Guardians (undisclosed)

There was some mysterious concern regarding Lively, as he was being checked out for an undisclosed injury. That examination has concluded and he will now rejoin the team. He’s not in the clear just yet, as the team will make some sort of announcement regarding his status. He reported a few days ago that he was feeling tightness everywhere in his body. Stay tuned.

Elias Diaz – C Colorado Rockies (calf)

It was officially announced by the Rockies that Diaz had suffered a calf strain after barely making it to first base on that ground out. The timing is extremely unfortunate as Diaz was being linked to the Cubs as a potential trade candidate. It remains to be seen if this injury will keep him out of action for a while.

Kyle Tucker – OF Houston Astros (shin)

Tucker shedding his crutches is a good sign for him to return by Friday, which has been something he has wanted since day one. Still, he has a lot of hurdles to clear before achieving that goal, which includes running.

Yainer Diaz – C Houston Astros (finger)

The injury seems minor, as yesterday’s day off should be considered as maintenance. If it extends into today, then there’s the possibility that this is a more serious ailment. For now, consider him DTD with the belief that he will be back in the lineup today.
