MLB Injury Report: Is Corey Seager okay?

Welcome to the MLB Injury Report for Friday, June 14, 2024. In today’s edition, Nolan Arenado is fine after a HBP, Corey Seager might be fine after a day off, and DL Hall might not be fine after a rough debut following a second opinion. All of this and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report for Friday, June 14, 2024.

Nolan Arenado – 3B St. Louis Cardinals (hand)

Arenado got hit in the hand by a pitch late in the game on Thursday. Luckily for him and the Cardinals, the X-rays were negative and it’s just a bone bruise. He had it wrapped up after the game, but the feeling is that he will need just a day or two before getting back into game action.

St. Louis Cardinals – Team Update

Big update here with some fantasy ramifications. Willson Contreras (hand) taking full BP is a big deal, but what’s even bigger is that he will look to start a rehab assignment early next week. His return feels imminent to the point of being back before July. As for Lars Nootbaar (oblique), the hurdle of swinging a bat could take place this weekend. Given how serious his side injury is, this would be a big step forward for him. From there it would depend on how he feels before a decision on a rehab assignment is made. Finally, Tommy Edman (wrist) continues to progress after finally being able to swing from both sides of the plate. There has been no word of a rehab assignment just yet.

Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers (hamstring)

Seager sat out for four games with a hamstring injury before playing on Wednesday. His sitting out yesterday due to hamstring tightness is concerning. If he misses today’s game, then there’s a chance that he has re-aggravated his ailing hamstring, and extended time could be warranted. For now, ley’s hope that this is a one-off and that he can return to the lineup and move forward.

Michael Wacha – SP Kansas City Royals (foot)

Wacha has progressed quickly over the last little while. Depending on how he feels today, he could start a rehab assignment early next week and possibly return shortly after that.

Milwaukee Brewers – Team Update

This was Garrett Mitchell’s (finger) third game in what should be considered a long rehab assignment. He is aiming to return to Milwaukee at some point next week when he is first eligible to do so. As for DL Hall (knee), this was not the type of outing the team would have wanted to see after he refused to listen to the advice of his doctors. He started the game and went through the 25-pitch maximum he was allotted. He will try to do better next time, but a few more outings like this and his knee problem might be a reconsideration.

Seattle Mariners – Team Update

In a shocking development, Ty France (heel) continues to progress forward to the point where he could return early next week. It was revealed that he had a hairline fracture in his heel last week, but the team is adamant that he can return when first eligible. Stay tuned for any developments. As for Jorge Polanco (hamstring), he was set to run the bases with the team yesterday before heading out on his assignment if everything checked out fine. We have not been told otherwise, so it’s safe to assume that all is well. Finally, Gregory Santos (lat) has progressed to throwing from 105 feet, but he still has a long way to go before what should be a lengthy rehab assignment.

Jeffrey Springs – SP Tampa Bay Rays (Tommy John)

This was an incredibly efficient outing for Springs, as he was able to get through two innings of work in under twenty pitches. His velocity was up to a 92.1 mph average, which is a great sign considering he left his first outing after one pitch. He will look to build on this in about a week’s time with another rehab outing.

Bobby Miller – SP Los Angeles Dodgers (shoulder)

Miller (likely) finishes his time in the minors with a 7.80 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, and ten strikeouts over fifteen innings of work. It is not the line that the Dodgers and fantasy owners want to see, but the biggest news is that he should return fully healthy next week.

Clayton Kershaw – SP Los Angeles Dodgers (shoulder)

Kershaw continues to slowly progress, as both he and the team have been meticulous in his development. His velocity has sat at around 90 mph, and the team is happy with that. The plan right now is for him to do this again next week and then head out for a rehab assignment afterward.

Brandon Marsh – OF Philadelphia Phillies (hamstring)

Marsh finished 3-for-5 with three singles and two strikeouts. He also was caught stealing once, which was likely him testing out his hamstring.
