"I've never felt anything like this before."

Harper said that he felt his hamstring start to flare up while he was running up the line towards first base. Watching him struggle to put pressure on it afterward makes it seem significant, but time will tell. He himself said that this is his first soft-tissue injury so this is unknown territory for him. Stay tuned for updates today.
Kyle Schwarber – OF Philadelphia Phillies (groin)
Kyle Schwarber departed tonight's game with left groin tightness.
— Tim Kelly (@TimKellySports) June 28, 2024
Schwarber injured his groin in last night’s game on an errant throw. The hope is that this was done as a precaution, but it could be enough to keep him out of the lineup for at least the weekend. Of note, this was his second game in the past week in the outfield, so perhaps that was a contributor. Either way, we will know more soon enough.
Philadelphia Phillies – Team Update
Spencer Turnbull is out 6-8 weeks. Taijuan Walker doesn't have a timetable right now, but it "won't be before the All-Star break."
Next man up is Michael Mercado, who should get a handful of starts — and maybe more depending on Walker's status.
— Paul Casella (@Paul_CasellaMLB) June 27, 2024
Spencer Turnbull (lat) was placed on the Injured List yesterday, and his return doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon. The team will want to take their time with him because they have postseason and World Series aspirations. As for Taijuan Walker (finger), he should be back much sooner, but just not before the All-Star Break. That being said, both of these injuries are big blows to an already depleted rotation. One has to wonder if they will look to bolster their starting pitching at the trade deadline.
Carlos Correa – SS Minnesota Twins (wrist)
Carlos Correa said his hand went numb initially when he got hit by the pitch but he was relieved after getting his X-ray results.
He said he'd be ready to play tomorrow.
— Betsy Helfand (@betsyhelfand) June 27, 2024
Correa was hit on the wrist by a pitch in yesterday’s game. While the immediate numbness is somewhat alarming, the overall consensus here is good news as there is no break whatsoever. Consider him DTD with the possibility of him missing this weekend at worst.
Adley Rutschman – C Baltimore Orioles (hand)
Adley Rutschman's hand was wrapped after it was hit by a foul tip. He stayed in the game and homered after. Brandon Hyde said: "I'm sure it's going to be sore. He got it in kind of a weird spot there on his hand, but he wanted to stay in the game, and rewarded with a homer."
— Andy Kostka (@afkostka) June 28, 2024
This isn’t considered to be anything serious, but there was a mention post-game that he could miss today’s game if there is swelling overnight.
Cincinnati Reds – Team Update
Fraley had an MRI today on his right calf and is getting another day off.
Candelario (right knee tendinitis) getting an extra day also to see if it improves.
— Mark Sheldon (@m_sheldon) June 27, 2024
Jake Fraley (calf) only has four at-bats this week and hasn’t played consistently in about a week. We should know more about the extent of his injury in the near future once the results of the MRI have been revealed. As for Jeimer Candelario (knee), his absences keep adding up. He may add to that total with a trip to the Injured List with an injury that continues to persist. Perhaps some time off will help alleviate the pain and push it into the background.
Gavin Williams – SP Cleveland Guardians (elbow)
Cleveland #Guardians RHP Gavin Williams struckout six batters today for Columbus in his rehab start allowing just one run over 4.0 innings of work against Omaha. Williams threw 82 Pitches and topped out at 98.7 mph.

— Guardians Prospective (@CleGuardPro) June 27, 2024
The velocity, pitch count workload, and overall results are encouraging, but the walks and innings worked are things that will likely keep him in the minors rehabbing. Once he becomes as sharp as we’re accustomed to seeing from him, he should return.
Will Brennan – OF Cleveland Guardians (oblique)
#Guardians transactions
OF Will Brennan placed on injured list (oblique)
INF Jose Tena promoted from Columbus
— Guardians Prospective (@CleGuardPro) June 27, 2024
There was no indication as to the level of severity on this oblique, but it is enough to warrant a trip to the Injured List. Chances are that he misses at least one month of action.
San Diego Padres – Team Update
Shildty says Darvish had some imaging that came out clean and likely will have another one for peace of mind. Darvish will stay behind and get in his work here.
Also, Arraez has an "ouchie" on one of his hands. #padres— Bernie Wilson (@berniewilson) June 26, 2024
Good news regarding Yu Darvish (elbow), as there was some concern about an inflamed elbow there. However, now with a clean slate, he may be able to return soon enough, though the team would be wise not to rush anything. As for Louis Arraez (hand), the hope is that his ouchie doesn’t escalate into an owsie after the oopsie he sustained.
San Francisco Giants – Team Update
Some pitcher injury updates: Alex Cobb will throw a bullpen on Friday and if all goes well will have a rehab assignment in San Jose after.
Kyle Harrison will also throw a bullpen on Friday.
— Shayna Rubin (@ShaynaRubin) June 27, 2024
Great news here on Alex Cobb (hip, shoulder), who has had a roller coaster ride of emotions going from injured to almost healthy and then having some setbacks. His original timeline of returning in the second half may come to fruition after all. As for Kyle Harrison (ankle), he will look to get back to the Giants soon enough, but will likely need a rehab assignment first.
Chicago Cubs – Team Update
Javier Assad’s forearm has been bothering him off/on last 2 weeks. That it lingered and he experienced symptoms playing catch yesterday prompted IL move.
Ben Brown (neck) making progress but Cubs being cautious
Jordan Wicks (oblique) not expected back until after All-Star break
— Meghan Montemurro (@M_Montemurro) June 27, 2024
A lot to unpack here. First, Javier Assad (forearm) headed to the Injured List after two weeks of pain. It was most evident in his last outing where he lasted just one inning while surrendering four runs and striking out no batters. The hope is that the All-Star Break will give them some extra time before having to make an even bigger decision. As for Ben Brown (neck), the team will take the cautious route here, as he is seen as a big piece of their future. There is a chance that he is suffering from a stress reaction, which could lead to significant time away. Stay tuned. Finally, Jordan Wicks (oblique) suffered a Grade 2 oblique strain, so his absence extending through the All-Star Break is no surprise.
